Very impressive to pot up a Douglas Fir. They grow tall very fast in the Pacific NW. I was inspired to work on my juniper today. Every cut you make improves the tree a lot.
An amazing transformation! I like to hear the philosophy, too. There is so much more to bonsai than just sticking a tree in a pot. Thank you -- and the tree's owner -- for sharing.
Dude if your new to bonsai I would suggest looking elsewhere for knowledge because this guy is a plethora of misinformation just take a look at that tree when he’s done and watch one of graham potters videos
I wonder what else he found in the garden ! Great to see Robert interact with the client and teaching him how to clip and grow this larger bonsai. Hope to see more videos like this. Thank you
I have 3 Dougs I grew from seed, amazing how fat they are in 3 years and still pretty short, just potted one up in a bonsai pot finally, excited to see how it does over the summer.
watched u before but forgot to subscribe, :D glad i found u again, amazing personality & the work reminds me of pet groomers or chiropractors who take a mess and are like, hey there is a living creature under there. they want to be happy just like us.
There was a lot of potential for showing of interesting movement in the trunk. What was the reasoning behind this potting angle? And that pot is MASSIVE for that compact root system. Won't that large container just enable the tree to keep elongating even more? Would it not make more sense to choose a smaller container so that the tree could start to develop tighter internodes? Just trying to learn and I'm confused by some of the choices made in this video.

Thank you! We want to see what other hidden bonsais are there, too. He learned very fast and was able to trim quite a bit of this tree himself.

Thank you! We often like to say that trimming a bonsai tree is like giving it a haircut. Trim off new growths and find the balance.
