What separates Derek from other reactors are his sharp observations and insights, clear delivery of engaging train of thoughts in the outros. Derek's forte is the imparting of thoughtful dialogues that capture audiences' intellectual attention, similar to said comparisons to what makes Succession special, beyond the bells and whistles at the superficial level. GOT incorporates both worlds of great writing, acting, and eye candies to stir core emotions, while Succession leans heavily on the former two.
In regards to the reason why England haven't yet captured Japan, didn't the Pilot say the Portuguese ships surrounded Japan and were engaged in blockade of main sea channels of entry for rivals? So not just out of respect for Japan's swords, which I'd assume, can easily be outgunned by superior foreign weaponry.

Also England in 1600 (Queen Elizabeth 1) was neither the naval nor world power it would become. The War of the Roses (an internal civil war) had ended a little over 100 years (1487) earlier with the Tudors taking the crown. Before that England and been fighting and losing a long war with France to keep their holdings in France. Even during Elizabeth’s reign the Spanish Armanda dwarfed the English navy. England’s fleet of smaller faster ships harassed the armada the whole way through the English Channel peppering the slower lumbering Spanish ships. England did start the buildup of their navy after this but it would take a long long time.
Around this time in history the best England could do was authorize private vessels (privateers) to harass and disrupt the Spanish trade from the Americas - basically legal pirates which is how the Spanish viewed them. That is basically what the 5 Dutch ships John signed on with as their pilot were on a mission to do too. Find the way into the Pacific and disrupt the trade of Catholic countries (Spain or Portugal) there too.

Rōnin were samurai without a lord - they had lost their honor by not dying alongside their lord in battle or they did something to get kicked out. They wandered around selling their swords - mercenaries. Since they had no honor, they were often willing to do things a samurai would consider against the code of acceptable behavior but most of them didn't choose to become ronin.

Loving this series so far! Your editing is great, I can get a real sense of the story. I don't have Hulu but I've been waiting for this series, and I am only able to see it through reactions. So thanks!😄
