it's incredibly rare to find women interested in genuine classic cars - definitely not found anyone like this here in Australia. But being a Saab it's a proper classic.
YOU MADE IT LOOK PRETTY SIMPLE...NICE JOB. I AM REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP ON A SAAB 93 2000....GOOD IDEA TO R/R THAT FUEL FILTER .THANK YOU FOR YOUR TUTORIAL....!!!VERY NICE JOB!!!
Vinyl gloves are your friend. Also, eye protection while under the car while working with crusty stuff and liquids. Good job though. Respect. You are The Duchess.
There are normally banjo bolt washers on either side of the banjo bolt fitting (2 on the inlet and 2 on the outlet of the fuel filter). The video looked like maybe the inner washers had been lost. This could be a safety issue as some point, if you get fuel (high pressure) spraying from you fuel filter. A quick check under there will tell you for sure. Cost of the washers are pennies. Great job BTW!
Thanks Mogman 150! The new filter came with the banjo bolt washers so I added them on each side. They did come with four, two copper and two aluminum (assuming). I only used one on each side, should I have used both?
Duchess DIY The banjo fitting is sandwiched between the washers (one on both sides of the fitting). The washer is what is doing the sealing. Does this make sense?
As a women who does a lot of basic mechanical work on my older vehicles, I would've appreciated some steps shown, that were skipped, in the video. Things like; the tools needed and their sizes, safety issues, where the screw is that holds the strap in place, the placement of the two locking washers, on both ends of the fuel pump and last, how to tighten the fuel filter. I did my homework prior to watching the video but I still think if you want to put out a video on how to change a fuel filter you should include All the relevant information. That being said, I did appreciate the information the video did have.
Nice to see you're doing it yourself, but it looks like you forgot the washers on the filter side. Also, always check that there is no leak when the engine is running.
when going to start the car again, you may want to turn the ignition on but wait a few seconds before engaging the starter to allow the fuel system to build pressure back up
So I was wondering if you were worried about any sparking from the tools that might ignite the fuel vapor? I was taught to use brass tools for something like that because it wouldn't cause a spark.
Nice job! im new on google, and try a compliment from a Belgian saabowner.Me too i like WD40...did u know why they call it that? Well, kind of cute : here is the story: if you might not already know...: They had to make 40 attempts with trial and error as it were...to get formula right..me at least i love the story, as i do my Saab 900.DIY is fun! keep it up!greetings and respect!
That setup with a block doesn't look very safe though. If you're going to do more work under the car I'd suggest getting at least a slightly safer solution. Cars are heavy and will crush you, it's quite a common accident. Especially when working alone safety is very important.
+Duchess DIY Roger is right, that nasty business was televised on Britain's Coronation Street program when I was a child. (Harry Hewitt crushed to death when Van slips off jack, 1967. I've never forgotten that. Never take chances or we might miss more video's ;)
With only 150k miles it can still go quite a bit longer. Most Saabs will run to close to 250k miles (400k km) without much trouble, if properly maintained. I'm on my fourth Saab and all have reached at least 350k km (=220k miles). Most are done in by rust to the body work, not mechanical failure.
+Duchess DIY I have had 5 Saab's and still have my 6th, a 9000 Anniversary model. Other than this car all others had done 200+ miles and running well. General Motors won no points for the closure of Saab. Where is SEV? Swedish Electric Vehicle phoenix from formerly SAAB. (NEVS, but that's not a good marketing name is it?)? I want to see the SEV PowerStorm Coupe.....
I remember when I did my '94 Camaro's fuel filter I ended up with gas all over the one side of my body at some point, heh. Wasn't too bad though. Glad I quit smoking before then.
I'm glad you quit smoking too! I was just too cheap to buy those long gloves which would have protected me from four days worth of people asking "Do you smell gasoline?"
anything past about 2001 uses parts shared with vauxhall but from my experience saabs are much more reliable and better build quality, especially the 95. Engines can do +200k if properly serviced
My second wife turned out to be a full-fledged mechanic after we divorced. I heard she gets paid for it and everything. She started off by taking a small interest in it.
If you are replacing the fuel pump make sure to buy the tool for the ring and prepare the opening by placing plastic on the carpet and duct tape around the hole this helps prevent gas on the carpet. As long as you align the pump correctly you will have no issues like I did. I have 240k on my 9-5 and I will keep it for another 240k. Post your video on changing the fuel pump. Keep SAAB alive. You are an excellent narrator and editor keep up the great work!!!

I just bought my daughter a 2002 9-5t. Thank you for the video, very helpful!

Don't loose those banjo bolt washers very important

Я восхищаюсь вами!
Smart Girl and very attractive also well done
Thanks. It does seem silly not do these simple things myself.
Saabs run for ever just do a tune up, and retorque headgasket at about 150k.
swear the thumbnail showed a dress under the car
Ryan Redfern screw off you horn dog, this woman is very talented and knows her shit
WOW, respect for that girl, some idiots can learn alot from that video, not idiotic proposal!
Good job. You don't seem to be very amateur... Well spoken too. :-)
Thanks franthetank! I pretty sure only the amateurs smell like gasoline for days after. ;-)
My Saab 9.3 aero going to garage on Monday morning as told if you break pipes may need new fuel pump
Good video though !🌞👌
Nice to see you're doing it yourself, but it looks like you forgot the washers on the filter side. Also, always check that there is no leak when the engine is running.
Such a beautifull Lady, nice to see from a woman how to service a car.
Amazing vedio
rock on Duchess!

Good idea Rodney. Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the story Bob. Enjoy your Saab!
;-)
Thanks. Nice work. Much better than the Haynes book. But please use gloves... :-)
You are great very good job
Thanks luisgeo27!
Saab is really built well. Hope yours lasts.

Thanks for the safety tip! I don't plan to do anything again for awhile.

Absolutely right...please put in jack stand as well. Can never be too safe.
I wisch my girlfriend could do that for me ;)
I reco0mmend you to use new copper rings on both sides of the banjo bolts of the filter, otherwise it will leak..regards. Charles
thanks i just bought a saab with a 161000 miles on her so i need to do the same thing

thats a good one
Are these Saabs reliable at higher mileages?Especially the diesels, I heard they use Vauxhall / Opel parts which puts me off getting one.
anything past about 2001 uses parts shared with vauxhall but from my experience saabs are much more reliable and better build quality, especially the 95. Engines can do +200k if properly serviced
❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
Good video :)

2 Thumps up nice job
duchess do you speek russia?
Wow well over due by the look of it, should give you better mpg.
It has improved my mpg!
In your case, the first thing you do is set the e-brake down hard. Don't want car to come off that block and mash that pretty face-
Pretty women
If you were my girlfriend life would be so much easier!
Haha that made me laugh out loud, thanks. :-)
Wear rubber gloves. Marry me!
Thanks Brad! I may have to invest in some gloves because I'll probably be replacing the fuel pump and don't want to smell like gasoline for weeks.
