After watching this, and "bushcraft" channels I've watched over the years, I realized that I would choose to be lost in a wilderness with you over the others specifically due to your inventiveness and ability to use truly natural elements, in their natural states, as survival tools. Most certainly, you are useful, and a nice looking gentleman as well.
Greg I think your patience in the bush is one of the most valuable things that you teach. You will take on something pretty ambitious as far as Bushcraft or traps and even when you have setbacks you just keep making adjustments and sticking with it until you get to the the desired results. That's a good lesson for everybody, keep them coming!
What a fantastic video. THX so much. Amazing to see the old camp again. :-) Greg Ovens never give up and I just love that. 9 out of 10 times things doesn't work out in the bush. Mistakes and errors are a big and natural part of learning. I'm so grateful that he is showing the mistakes instead of editing them out. Greg Ovens is the real deal people. A big like from Denmark. :-)
Greg I think I can tell you are a very good man just by these videos. Maybe It's your smile.. Or your humility. I think you're holding strong Christ energy developed through a lifetime of connection to the planet and respect for others. Blessings from an Australian Gnostic.
You did it!! Eureka! Broken reel handle and all! Really admire your positive attitude in the face of so many challenges and disappointments. I think 90% of survival could be determined by attitude. Are you going to give up, or are you going to keep your head up and fight through adversity. Well done. Much respect for you! "If the women don't find you hansom, they should at least find you handy." Quote of the video!
Greg, I really underestimated you when you were on “Alone” and boy was I ever wrong. The content you’re putting out is AWESOME! I’ve been watching non stop the past few days! Keep her goin eh 👍
I just re-watched the third season the other day, it is a shame they have to cram so much content into only 10 episodes.. I bet they could have made 10 episodes just of Greg.. ! It sure was sad towards the end when people starting tapping out, and getting so skinny. Its tough.
My favourite show as a kid was Ray Mears Bushcraft but there wasn’t many episodes so I used to rewatch them. Now you can find endless bushcraft videos on UA-cam and I’m grateful because they’re extremely interesting and relaxing.
I LOVED that you came back to the 30 day challenge site!! I hope you come back to it. It's just so beautiful! Thank you for sharing. Cheers from Northern Cali
I love that Zach goes all hardcore on his winter bush trips. Super heavy bibs and thermal everything and Greg is over here in Levi's and a sweatshirt. They make a good pair of opposites
I like Greg Ovens. I like the sound of his voice, and his determination to “make-do” with whatever he has on hand. But a casting rod carved from sticks seems a bridge too far. No woodsmen should venture into the bush without an axe, sleeping bag, coffee pot, fry pan and (for me) at least 25 pounds of other desirables that I never minded packing. Now I am too old to walk (much less pack) into the bush, but watching tough young explorers like Ovens helps stir snips of memories to relish from so many, many years ago.
Well you see when you live any where north Grand Prairie Alberta and you need to pick up toilet paper you are automatically “heading to the Bush” I think his intention is to show you can live with nothin* but the shirt on your back ... if that ...caveman style
I'm glade that I finally find a Canadian guy who is doing survival demonstrations on how to survive in the bushes..... Great Job it would be much appreciate it if you would record each step of the stuff you do... Don't think it bothers us, we have patient for nature. And you should😇.
Hay Greg that's a pretty cool bushcraft invention, so the eyes on your fishing Rod, are to guide and to prevent your fishing line from wrapping around your fishing rod, when you cast the line out. So without the eyes on your fishing Rod can cause an induced friction on the line, which can result in really short cast and or cause your fishing line to get wound up in a ball of knots. However, your personally created Bushcraft fishing Rod is totally cool, However, although it kinda looks like a Mr. Fred Flintstones lake and sea series model A, its a very cool invention!
Hard to believe how clear the water in those lakes are. One of those “ya gotta see it, to believe it” type deals. Persistence pays off Greg, get that rod and reel working!
I think this has become my favourite of your videos. Might have watched it almost a dozen times now. Don't know why but there is something about this one which just makes it brilliant
If I had the means to take myself from where I am here and put myself there living the life that you are living Greg , I'd already be there . Love your positive attitude Greg but there is something more important than handy and that is funny! Keep up being your funny, entertaining self! Awesome to see you back at Grizzly camp, awesome spot! Thanks for sharing!

Several years ago a friend of mine had a tree stand failure and he was several miles away from his truck and had to use his rifle as a crutch. I really enjoy you sharing your wealth of knowledge. Thank you Greg for a great return video to the raised fort @ Rocky mountains. You homemade rod system is a great idea, and catch's fish. Sorry you got rained out of the big fish lake. Love your survival skill’s.
Greg enjoy the episodes ! Just started watching about 7 months ago. Not only are you entertaining but your very informative. Hell I actually learn something about how to survive in the bush. Keep the shows coming? Hopefully this will replace the dry wall hanging !
Enjoyed watching your return to Zach’s tree house. You are the personification of Perseverance and Patience, because nothing goes easy in the bush. The editing adds levity (thanks Zach), which is important in the bush.
Excited for more Oven's Rocky Mountain Bushcraft! Really glad to have more content on this channel. I cant encourage you enough. I watch every episode as soon as I can. Great stuff. Thanks Greg!
If you are looking for fishing bait , and you are next to a slow river or creek that has rock init if you can get to turn over some of the rocks , ( very slowly ) you will find hellgrammites , crayfish etc & crustations on the rock that has a small worm in it put 2 crustations on your hook , excellent
Good to see the old campsite, to bad the weather was so miserable. I have a feeling you're not going to give up on the "bush rod". lol. If I was in a survival situation, I doubt I would make such a fancy fishing rod but it's fun watching you try. I bet you're going to be using the old campsite (and video it) a few more times in the future. What ever you do. I'll be watching.
Eore is my favorite cartoon character. He suits you. He doesn't let mishaps get to him and he's very patient. We can all stand to have a bit of that in us.
I did this life for 7 years completely off grid. It's not easy. You have to work or starve. Each day you wake up is the reward for your hard work the day before. The loneliest years of my life.
Funny edits lol. I'd have put the rod down and hand wound it around the spool by pulling the fish line in by hand and wrapping it around the spool manually. Great job on the rod though. I love how the water is so shallow that you get to see the fish you catch before you even land them. Though I would think you would get bigger fish the deeper it is. I can't wait for the next video!! Stay warm and dry. Eat well!! Oh this is old filming. You're probably at home safe, dry, warm and well fed.

I don't understand why people give dislike to the beautiful video like this, i think they just don't like bushcraft or don't like the video or maybe just have nosy finger lol 😂
Your patience is commendable. You probably already know this, but have you ever tried the "Mexican spinning reel?" I learned it years ago in a fishing village called San Blas. All it is is a beer can with monofilament wrapped around it. You wrap it all the way to the top life of the can, which stops it from unraveling too far. With a weight on the end and a hook a couple feet above the weight, you can swing that weight around and get a lot of leverage for a long cast, and if you aim the end of the spool towards the direction of the cast, that weighted line will fly off the end just like an open-fact spinning reel, exactly the same principle. You have to wind it in manually, of course, but I caught a lot of fish off the surf with such a rig, and it works for freshwater fishing as well. I caught trout with it in Switzerland, Austria and Germany. It's a lot easier to rig up and transport than the rather complicated rig you're using, a lot less cumbersome, and once you get the hang of it it's very effective.
The bush is really patience in the making. Glad to see another video! This ones great trial and error with the pole! Can’t get perfection on the first try. Thanks again!
Enjoying your videos my friend. Great survival/Bushcraft skills - filming and editing great too. I never really thought of making a full rod and reel. I always just do a hobo type fishing set up. But This would be a really tough challenge! You did excellent!

Great videos Mate, all the best From Ireland, Kind Regards 👍👍👍🇮🇪🍀
The bush is really patience in the making. Glad to see another video! This ones great trial and error with the pole! Can’t get perfection on the first try. Thanks again!
Enjoying your videos my friend. Great survival/Bushcraft skills - filming and editing great too. I never really thought of making a full rod and reel. I always just do a hobo type fishing set up. But This would be a really tough challenge! You did excellent!
