What makes me cry so much about this scene is that john candy went from comedy to a serious role in this film and he did excellent. Also, the next year he sadly died. So incredibly sad. R.I.P John Candy. You are so missed.

John candy you made some bloody great films, movie fans miss you to this day 🥺 ❤ legend. That ending every time pure tearjerker, my childhood. Also it shows winning/ losing does not matter as long as you believe in yourself and do your best.
I remember in the Netflix series 'The Movies That Made Us' in the Home Alone episode they mentioned that John Candy was the one who discovered Macaulay Culkin for his role in Uncle Buck. When they were filming the first Home Alone movie they said that he wanted to be there before it was too late because his health was failing. I always thought that was really sweet.

I remember the 1988 Calgary Olympics in real life they pushed the sled but wonderful movie and great ending especially with the one athlete who mocked them the most was the first one to applaud.
At least he’s madding his mistakes for what he did to them and cheering them on as equals and champion of the heart even if they don’t win there match right that’s what counts right Mr Ross sir!
I think them winning the hearts of the people was more important than them winning the competition. Because it shows how much your willing to give it your all.
This scene gives me goosebumps every time!! Like they finally got respect from the Swiss Team after a brutal fight in the bar and the father who was so mad that he left him. It fills my heart with warmth

@PavarottiAardvark I agree, and he was probably very happy that he agreed to be the bobsled coach of Jamaica since in the beginning he was refusing but somehow out of the encouragement of Derice that helped him to understand that he should be continuing showing his skills on being a great bobsledder after winning two gold medal and being a champion. Plus I'm sure after Mr. Coolidge put the picture on the wall seen at 3:35, that must have helped John Candy feel that he should continue being the Jamaican bobsled coach forever.
@@afriendofbean it meant he had to confront his "cheating" past and deal with it. Which he did and redeemed himself, as did Derice - redeeming himself after the track failure.
I cried when they came out there holding their sled all high and mighty. Omg I love this scene so much. Goes to show you how they never gave up on their goals. Wow.
The actuall crash was much more scary, they slid down the track (upside down) at 85 mph. So shaken that they did not carry the sled as seen here, but walked it across the finish line.
I've seen this movie so many times now, but if not for that bolt coming loose, they would have won for sure. Every time I see this scene, I'm always like “oh no they so would have won if not for that da*n bolt!!!”. Good movie to.
Except in real life the bolt never came lose. And in all reality, they were already out of contention for the gold...their first two runs they finished 24th and 25th out of 27 teams.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but I feel like it's kinda implied, even if he never says it, when Kurt starts clapping. Although he could be all like "yeah these guys are cool, but you, Irv, you are still a douche!"
Ya know there's been a lot of different opinions about the greatest actors of all time. I gotta say, John Candy is right up there. Honestly, his movies end up being so freakin emotional, sometimes solely on his performance alone. The shots of him trying to get through the crowd. Constantly craning his head to see through the sea of people. At the end, all it takes is a validating look from Candy, a hug, and two words "Thank YOU." I'm not crying, there's an onion next to me
