Hard to believe it was 32 years ago now. The Jamaicans and Eddie the Eagle definitely spiced things up and brought in the TV viewers. And whew, what a party it was. They closed down the University and moved everyone out of residence to host athletes so we had a 2 week February party.

As a Calgarian I can state our city was Jamaican Bobsled Team crazy. They and Eddie the Eagle truly showed what the Olympic Spirit is all about.
Now the games are about money for the corrupt IOC, TV cash, sponsorship and advertising. Calgary had the opportunity to bid (and most likely win) host city for 2026 and our city held a plebiscite and overwhelmingly voted it down due to the cost and corruption.
The Jamaican Bobsled Team is fondly remembered in Calgary and always will be.......the IOC can kick rocks.
