A Day in the Life of a Homeschool Mom of 5

  • Take a peek inside a day in the life of a homeschooler with 5 young children. Sometimes I feel like a human tennis ball, bouncing between child to child, helping them all with their work.
    It is messy, it is chaotic, but there is a beauty and joy in it that I wouldn't miss for the world.
    My name is Rebecca from Homeschool On (formerly Hip Homeschooling). I am a second generation homeschooler, which means that I was homeschooled myself! I have 5 young children between the ages of 4 and 10 years old and have been homeschooling since they were in preschool. We are a Christian homeschool family and my hubby is RCMP (Canadian federal police) so he often works shift work and is out and about in the city.
    Through my homeschool journey I have learned SO many things. I had to come to understand my children and the way they learn, myself and my limitations and homeschool approach, and figure out what curriculum would work for our chaos. It has been an adventure but we love the flexibility and freedom and closeness that it offers us.
    Curriculum shown in today's video:

      Aw, thank you! I guess it feels chaotic to me watching me bounce around like a ball from one thing to the next, the days are long, but I find a sense of peace in it as well. It's such a dichotomy but we love it!

    Omg this video is soooo great! You are very inspirational homeschooling mom and your children are extremely well behave. You really cracked me up when you let your daughter smell the flowers after she got three right answers, it's so fun and creative way to quickly reward her. Your family is just so amazing. Thank you for sharing.

    I’m a homeschooling mother of four, for last five years. I recently learned about The Good and the Beautiful curriculum. While researching it, I found your channel. I just want to thank you for sharing your days and opinions! It’s so refreshing to get a look into someone else’s (REAL) homeschool day. Watching you navigate the lessons and juggle all the kids is like spying on myself. Thank you so much! Homeschool moms juggle a lot. Even watching and editing this video I was surprised with how late we started that we accomplished so much and that was all before dinner! It made me realize that I make excuses for myself a lot, that we don't have enough time, when if we just buckle down and do it, we DO! ;)

      I feel you I homeschool a high schooler that’s intense chemistry was not fun. And adding electives. I also homeschool 3 others 11, 8, and 6 but I have a sneaky toddler 3yrs and a high maintenance 10 month old she will not stop crying unless someone is holding her she could be losing her voice and she won’t stop. So we swap her between myself and my three older girls. 15,11,8 my homeschool days are not like this. But I wouldn’t trade it for nothing

I so badly want to do a "one class room" approach as you seem to be doing. I haven't yet had a clear representation of what that looks like until now. Newly subscribed here. 😁

    • @servantrose
      @servantrose 4 роки тому

      @@surinakhirashah3615 don't worry. You are not alone. Homeschooling is different from schooling at home because of the quarantine. If your kids are still directed by the school. The difference for the kids is hard to transition to mom as teacher/educator. Even us who homeschool it has challenges not always seen on youtube.

    Hi! As a fellow Canadian, how do you find tgtb history? I love tgtb LA but have heard the history is very American focused so have stayed away from it. Where abouts in Canada are you?

      I'm no super far in and so far no American, it's all world history starting with Bible times. I have heard some of the other years have more. But I think year one is more world focused. I need to look ahead more to verify that though, ha!

      Sorry, but your children needs discipline. They don't sound very respectful

      Actually, they have ADHD so they try their best but they don’t always succeed but thank you for your opinion

    My 2 would never sit this long nor pay attention. 1 will, the other has to be moving. It's a constant coming back to focus.

    do you give them a lunch and recess? I didn't see that in your video... or do you just go all the way through until your done? also can you share what morning basket is ? thank you so much!

    • @HomeschoolOn
      @HomeschoolOn  6 років тому +2

      Yes, we have snack times, I think I showed that in the video, they often go outside during that time when the weather allows, and then we do lunch as well. Morning basket is just subjects/read alouds/poetry that we put into a basket and work through. In ours we have history and science (which we alternate), a read aloud, poetry, and Bible. We do that all together as a family before moving on to our more independent or one-on-one bookwork.
