Yay! I love that you're Canadian! :) Most of the youtube homeschooling moms that I follow are from the US so it's nice to see what you do for Canadian Social Studies.

I love how she's touching on all of the negative ways the Canadian government has affected native people. Its very easy to see Canada through a "better than thou" lens when in reality we have our issues too.

Could you start referring your children by age or grade levels rather than 'youngest/oldest' etc. It would be super helpful as a way to have a sense of whether the material you are holding is appropriate for older or younger age groups. love your videos!

What I love most about you- your honesty. A lot of other homeschooling channels I have watched just talk about the curriculum and what their days look like/ break down. Yes, most of them say they teach their children at their own pace, but most aren’t honest enough to say that one or more of their children are behind. I’m summer schooling my children to test this out. My youngest daughter has Optic Nerve Hypoplasia and is behind. She just turned 4. Our local schools don’t really help the children with special needs. They lump them all in one classroom. I feel a more one on one with her will be best, because I know she will not learn the same as others. My other daughter will be starting first grade. She goes to public school this year, but I didn’t want to only home school one child. So I’m seeing how well they both do this summer. Thank you for your honesty!

I'm thrilled to find this! Just what I need to watch as I plan for our school year. I'm Canadian as well, so your history resources are extra valuable! First found you because of your decision to quit TGATB. Makes perfect sense what you are doing. You were very clear about your decision and I'm not sure why people are taking so much offense to it! I was thinking about starting that curriculum, but the time commitment scares me more than anything.

    Hi.
I had to pause half way through, your kids are not behind !!!! You are doing a great job using the best resources you have found to address your kids needs.
They are all different, learn at different pace.
You are a great mama !!!

I just love your videos, especially this one. I've been having such a hard time finding Canadian content. I do like the fact that they can access some US history through their curricula as they are dual Canadian/US citizens. I loved world history too and my sons do as well (ages 4 and almost 3). Thank you for posting, videos like this are extremely helpful for me. My son will be starting kindergarten this fall.

I just subscribed to your channel and I'm really excited about it! I just ordered TGTB for history and science. We have done about 6 lessons of each over the course of 3 weeks. I am undecided about the curriculum and really appreciated your blog explaining whey you moved away from the program. I am always on the lookout for christian curriculums that are easy and quick and my children will enjoy. I love that you are using Visualizing & verbalizing! It is a great program that does not get the attention it deserves. I worked for LMB until 2012 when I had my middle child and now I homeschool and incorporate VV, Seeing Stars, and occasionally Lips. I love the decoding workbooks and the VV workbooks. It's surprising how many kids don't image while they are reading. My 6 year old is struggling to image so we have been taking more time to stop and build pictures and summarize while we move through reading. Did you attend a workshop to receive training?

I really appreciate your videos. We will be implementing a basket and looping, such a great idea I honestly hadn't even though of. Our reading will be in the evening right after dinner. There is so much I want to teach my kids its overwhelming at times. I also love that you do it in 20 minutes, We can do that!

Love your curriculum picks!!!! I've been looking into master books, they look so beautiful & well done. Your approach to homeschooling is very much my style, I've never heard of the term looping before but LOVE it!!!! Thanks so much for sharing in depth and thank you for sharing your times per subject etc. It sounds like a well planned day for sure. I end up trying to do too much then we get stressed out😉 So working on staying consistent & a little goes a long way. The idea of reading through one book this week then another in your morning basket is a fab idea!!!!! I can't wait to incorporate these ideas into our schooling this year. Thank you so much! I'm so glad I found you:). I'm newer to you tube and just starting my channel, it's a little intimidating but I absolutely am thankful for you and other mamas sharing tips on homeschooling. Many Blessings to you and your family!!!

This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you! I currently use only Abeka Academy and keep feeling a nudge that this isn't how I envisioned our homeschooling life to be. You have really helped me to start thinking about what we can do for next year(and try out throughout the rest of this school year). I really appreciate you posting this. God bless!

Amy Hinkle I just returned our abeka academy stuff because it wasn’t what I was wanting as our homeschool life either. I’m still trying to piece together what will work for us but I felt a huge relief quitting that curriculum.

Lisa, so happy to hear that!! I bought some Masterbooks things and love it in conjunction with the Abeka. It's too late for me to return the Abeka and I do like it for certain subjects. But doing social studies and science and reading more with my kids has been great! So happy for you

I've been so curious of master books!! I can't decide which direction to go. I did like the videos for arithmetic and language arts and I feel that maybe I should have kept the program just for those. I'm trying to figure out which curriculum will work best for us.

We tried math u see and right start. We hated both! Since we tried Masterbooks last year we have found our math love. We’ve used Singapore and Abeka and they are great too, but Masterbooks is just a better fit for us. Good luck with right start... but even seeing that book on this video makes me cringe haha. It was so MUCH...
We are using language lessons for a living education this year and I’m excited about it!
We’re doing My story 2 and Americas Story 1 from Masterbooks as well and I am so excited about that! It looks wonderful. For any other Americans reading this, Knowledge Box Central has a handwriting copy work called Famous Quotes from the Heavy Hitters from WW1 and WW2 for $5 and I’m having my fourth grader copy those quotes throughout the year and then doing a book report on one of his choice at the end of the year.

we love SUS as well! And I also am waiting for my books to arrive...that's all I need to receive before we can start! foundations phonics looks good. my kids love explode the code so much though that I could never switch. they look forward to that every day and they are in 1st,3rd this year. After books 7,8 this year for my 3rd grader though there are no more with ETC so I'll see about this foundations. It could be that they dont need phonics anymore after 3rd, in which she will be crushed. LOL That Language for living education looks amazing. Does it give too much spelling where you find you dont need Spelling you see? That's why I struggle to find a new LA program when I love SUS already.

A lot of it has to do with how my child learns best, what grade levels they are working on, and what I need to make sure they know by the end of the year. Yes, there are a lot of options out there, and not all of them work as well as we hope... there really is a little bit of luck that goes with making the final decision after all of the research. Would love to know where you get your resources and books from? Interested homeschooling later on when kids are older, but finding that most homeschool curriculum is u.s. Based. Also, how can you afford all those lovely books?! Books ain't cheap girl! 😂

Books and resources come from various sources honestly and it really depends on the curriculum. And yes, homeschool books aren't cheap at all! I do have a ton of resources on the blog to help you in deciding which curriculum might work best for you, including some quizzes to determine your children's preferred learning styles. Knowing how the learn best can help you figure out if a curriculum is going to work - it's not perfect, but a great way to start! ;)
