Just an FYI warning in case the glass casserole dish with the red cover was a PYREX dish. If the word is spelled in lowercase like "Pyrex" it should NOT be heated in an oven or microwave when going from a cold temperature to hot, and not taken directly from heat to cold! Always make sure the dish is at room temperature before putting into an oven or refrigerator. It is made of soda lime glass and CAN EXPLODE/SHATTER from drastic temperature changes! ONLY glassware spelled in all capital letters "PYREX" is safe to use in the oven and microwave from cold temperature and vice versa without fear of breaking violently! The Pyrex version won't break everytime from big temperature changes (including washing/rinsing in hot and cold water) but it does happen. I had one shatter on me when I thought I was using my good original PYREX version I have but had grabbed the wrong (newer Pyrex) one and now have several burn scars on my arm and leg from the glass shattering and getting on me!

Regarding the flag (according to Wikipedia):
Hawaii is the only U.S. state flag to feature a foreign country's national flag-that of the United Kingdom's Union Jack-which commemorates the Royal Navy's historical relations with the Kingdom of Hawaii, and in particular the pro-British sentiment of its founder and first ruler, King Kamehameha I.

The first contact Hawaiians had were with English sea captains. ,The earliest foreign enclaves were English traders and missionaries who basically took over the islands as "advisors" to the King. The last Hawaiian Queen's father was a Scot, and she was raised in England. She traveled to get support to keep them independent, but after returning to the Islands , she died just barly into her 20s. And then the United States annexed the island. There are some excellent movies about her life and dedication to her people. At the time of annexation, most Americans had never seen a Hawaiian and the newspapers of that time ran editorial cartoons depicting them as black people with kinky African hair.

@@jennifermassie7227 There have been investigation opened up regarding Oprah. She hired the fire department to keep the fire off her land, which meant that they couldn't save people who were actually in dangers lives. She's been buying up land like crazy on the Island, like more than 1,000 acres in recent months. The first words out of the governors mouth was about buying all the land from the native owners. There were roadblocks preventing people from escaping during the fires, which is one of the reasons so many people didn't escape. Also, a typical fire burns around 600 degrees, yet somehow it was hot enough to melt aluminum which has a melting point of 1,200 degree's which is a pretty good indication that accelerates where used. Oh yeah... and there seems to be a huge government coverup happening. There is just a bunch of really odd stuff that the media refuses to talk about which.. again.. cover up. The first European to discover the Hawaiian Islands was James Cook, British explorer, who named the islands the Sandwich Islands after the Earl of Sandwich. Hawaii was independent for a time, but in 1898 was annexed as a US Territory by congress. When Hawaii gained statehood, they chose a flag with the Union Jack to commemorate the British influence on their heritage. As for the macadamia nuts, although an Australian tree, they were introduced to Hawaii in 1882 to form wind breaks for sugar cane plantations. Now, most macadamia nuts sold in the US come from Hawaii and a lot of people even call them Hawaii nuts, not knowing that the macadamia is native to Australia and was an introduced species in Hawaii.

Hawaii was once a sovereign nation led by kings and queens. In the late 1700's, King Kamehameha I, flew the British flag given to him by King George III as a token of friendship. However, during the War of 1812, the Hawaiian King flew the American flag over his home to placate American interests. Yet this angered the British officers that were part of the King's court and they demanded he remove the flag. So King Kamehameha commissioned a new flag that incorporated elements of the Union Jack and Old Glory. Hawaii doesn't just like macadamia nuts, they produce over 40 million pounds of mac nuts a year. Hawaii is also one of two places in the United States where coffee can be grown.

NZ folks, I love your videos and have watched you for over a year now. I am about to harvest prickly pears (fruit of the prickly pear cactus). They do not keep well, so I either pickle them or make jelly (you'd call it jam). Since these are time sensitive, and you're about to make a trip to the US, I am going to ask if you will be coming anywhere near Amarillo, Texas? If you are, you might make a detour, and I'll let you have a jar of the jelly. If not, I'll bubble wrap the heck out of one of them and send it to you in NZ. Respond to this comment, and we'll see if we can coordinate.

FOR FUTURE EXPIRED PRODUCTS.... all non refrigerated foods are almost always still good to eat for many months after expiration date. We do it all the time. Even refrigerated foods(NOT meat) are good for about 10 days or so after date if they have not been opened. Just do the sniff check and check for mold.

    • @saralynn518

@@lynettefriedrichs4557 Right. I just bought a big box of assorted Frito Lay snacks and chips. The expiration date is still a ways off and they taste off/bad. I went through several (maybe 8) different bags tasting them to see if it was this, bag not that bag, if it was me, etc. "Good" food can still be bad & "bad" food can still be good. Common sense and a taste test and sniff test and I'm still alive today lol.

Ferrara Pan made Red Hots, Lemonheads, Boston Baked Beans, Atomic Fireballs, and Jaw Breakers. They also made Jordan Almonds Chocolate covered almonds, and gummies. I am writing this to inform you that peanut butter will keep for years after the "expiration date". I come from a large family that was economically challenged. I am the oldest of 4 children and my parents are were also feeding 3 neighbor kids who's mother neglected them to buy alcohol. We ate a lot of peanut butter and jelly growing up. My mom would buy it by the case when it was on sale and we would often eat peanut butter that was as long as 3 years passed the date. Sometimes the peanut oil would separate and you would have to mix it back in but as long as the jar was sealed it would still be good. I once found a can of Planters peanut butter in my mom's basement that was 8 years old. When opened up we had to mix it back together but it was still edible. They stopped makig Planters peanut butter about 6 years ago and it was actually the best peanut butter ever. It was just not as widely known as other brands because it was more expensive so they stopped making it due to low sales.

This is why the Hawaiian Flag has the Union Jack.
Hawaii's state flag resembles the Union Jack of Great Britain because many of King Kamehameha's advisors were British and the islands were once placed under England's protection. The flag consists of eight horizontal stripes, representing the eight major islands and the British Union Jack.

Hawaii has the best coffee by far. We live in Utah and my oldest son buys the Hawaiian coffee. When we lived in Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia, we ordered it because it is so flavorful that you don’t want to buy the other coffees. We get whole beans and grind them at home.

I know. I've been to Hawaii over a dozen times and many times I've mail-ordered their pure Kona coffee (in the other 49 states "Kona blend" coffee is only 10-30% Hawaiian Kona beans). It has a bold, interesting spirit to it that no other coffee has, probably from being grown in fresh volcanic soil.
