if you are traveling to any country even without any medical problems it is always wise to get travel insurance last thing you want it become sick end up in hospital and wind up with $10k medical bill....my husband and I even got travel insurance when we had our honeymoon in Fiji.

If you haven't already looked into, you may want to check out the book "Medical Medium Celery Juice: The Most Powerful Medicine of Our Time Healing Millions Worldwide". There is also a specific website discussing the diet but I haven't been able to locate it. I believe it was by a doctor who tried the diet (for UC or IBS) and found it successful. I'm only suggesting this because I know someone personally who had IBS for years and constant digestive issues and she was strict as can be with this diet and now no longer suffers from any of the horrible symptoms. It's at least worth trying.

I feel for you. I'm 100% disabled veteran. I have stomach problems also. We went on a 14-day trip to Italy. I was very scared about eating there. There a lots of things I used to eat but can't tolerate anymore. I found out the hard way on what I could and couldn't eat. In the end, I had to have my gallbladder removed. That seemed to double the things I had to watch . So, anyway, I watched what I ate. Took to powder for liver bile absorption and had a great time. The family got to eat some great food, and I was able to be a part of everything we did. You know your body. Eat what you can so you can have a great time!

I am 47 years old, and I certainly hope that you continue to improve. I read a comment about travel insurance. I would definitely look into it...but don't forget to let yourself enjoy life. I have been in bed this go round for nearly a month. I'm ready for this particular cycle to settle down. I will say that without my faith I wouldn't know how I would keep trudging along. I started to feel unwell and called my doctor who wasn't seeing patients in person. She sent me for bloodwork but said that I needed a scan. But couldn't get a scan for over a month. I went to the ER and found out that I have ovarian cancer. The doctor transferred me to a cancer hospital. I had surgery, chemo and treatment. Right now I'm in remission. I started to watch your UA-cam channel during chemo. Thank you so much for keeping up my spirits. Sam just to be sure maybe get a scan for your stomach issues. Just to be sure.

As Americans, we know most of everything we eat is a four letter word. We’re also stuck in a country where the politicians don’t care, or where so far from the city with good food might be obtainable. Same thing with the TV drugs commercial when the very last words are "could cause death"; is listed as one of the side effects. I don’t understand why everybody is chomping at the bit to get some.

What about all those packages, the money people spent of buying things and the cost of shipping. I bet shipping to NZ isn't cheap and all that stuff is just sitting in boxes? What a shame. I was making a list of things from WI I wanted to send to them but forget that. They should make a video telling people not to send them any more food items.

I've been following y'all for quite some time... and this is like a prayer answered to watch this! What a blessing to hear you share something so very personal about your health... the total health, mental, physical and Spiritual and to hear that you've placed your trust in God to take care of you - that there is purpose in the challenges. I am widowed and have two girls at home, one in college and I am struggling desperately with my health. I am currently so out of balance since having several ear and throat infections and have been put on so many strong courses of antibiotics that I am very off balance... I have a wheat allergy and am Type 2 diabetic...the list goes on. When I watched this... I breathed a sigh of relief that someone else out there understands... THANK YOU for sharing and getting real! Hugs to your family from our family in West Virginia, USA😊😊😊😊

Prayers for better health. I am not a physician and am just relating my personal experience which may be useful for you. I have had chronic GI issues since I was a small child and am now 56. A decade ago I asked my GP to prescribe Ursodiol which is synthetic bear gall in tablet form. It is one of the ancient Chinese medicines and in the USA it is sometimes prescribed to help with gall stones. In my case taking a tablet with each meal it increased my tolerance for many common foods that used to cause bouts of irritable bowel syndrome. I am gluten intolerant, allergic to tomato and eggplant and until I went on Ursodiol pork products would cause instant nausea, severe cramping and explosive stools. Before this medication eating an apple would sometimes cause the same kind of burning pain you described which is what made me think it might help you as well.

Sam and Nadine, thanks for being so open. I have had ulcerative colitis for years now. It started out with relatively short flares before I sought diagnosis. Over a few years, it started happening more frequently and getting more severe. Mine is not food related (been through months of isolating foods and testing effects... nothing made a difference), it's just cyclic and auto-immune. If you have it, and it flares again, the surest way to bring it in line unfortunately is steroids. Then, there are excellent meds to try to break that cycle. If you start having more frequent flares of colitis, Western medicine does have a path to control symptoms and lessen cancer risk, but it comes with risk of side effects (which I have not suffered) - the upside has been worth it.
Feel good. Stay well. Enjoy your upcoming travel.

I have had the same stomach issues as Sam for several years now. It's taken a while to figure out what the issue is. But I had an endoscopy in March of 2022 that showed that my stomach lining is severely burned. Most likely from ibuprofen. I have had arthritis since I was in my early 30's and depended heavily on ibuprofen. I now have to be extremely careful of what I eat. No tomato sauces, chili peppers or spicy foods. Which is very sad since those are my favorite types of food. I hardly ever take ibuprofen now and am working hard to lose weight and get healthy. Low carb diet and cycling, which is much easier on my joints. Best wishes to you Sam!

Sam, Considering your upcoming trip to the US, I wanted to jump on here and teach you a trick I created. US foods are fantastic, and I'm sure you want to try them all. Actually, you can.
I had my own heath issues and decided to make a change. I weighed 310lb (141kg). I ended up losing 112lbs (50.8kg) in 9 months without exercising or changing my lifestyle. I did cut a lot of daily food out of my diet, but never deprived myself of the occasional treats. Here's the trick...
Spoons. Yes, Spoons. Think about when you try a new food. That first bite is amazing, you capture all the flavor, the textures, and all the joys of trying new things. Everything after that is just chasing after that first high. It really isn't as enjoyable. I eat all the healthy food i want, but when it comes to the pleasure foods, I only take one spoonful.
Since you're familiar with thanksgiving, here's an example. all the turkey i want, all the veggies I want. When it comes to the stuffing, I take one heaping teaspoon of stuffing and put it on my plate, spoon and all. And a teaspoon full of mashed potatoes onto my plate, and a spoon of... everything I want. I end up with about 5 spoons on my plate or more. And then I eat. I know that's all I'm getting, so i enjoy it, I savor it, and then I'm done with that. Then when it comes to dessert, one spoon of apple pie, one spoon of pumpkin pie, one spoon of pecan pie, one spoon of ice cream, etc. You go through lots of spoons.. but it's worth it. You try everything, in easily controlled portions.
American food is going to have you chowing down. Instead, enjoy it. There's no need to stuff yourself. There's plenty of new options that are just as good as the first bite. Try sweet tea. You don't need a litre of it. Try fried Oreos, you'll get the flavor and sensation in 1/2 a bite. Banana pudding, one Nilla wafer coated in pudding. You don't need a bucket to enjoy it.
You're going to love America and American food. Enjoy all the varieties, just not all of the quantity!

@@YourNewZealandFamilyPodcast I would add that if you can somehow get an idea of how large a restaurant's portion sizes are, you might think about how many orders your family needs. At some restaurants, you can make three orders (or even two, with an appetizer or side dish!) and ask for four place settings, and then split the food among yourselves and still feel like you've had enough.

I was diagnosed with gastroparesis six years ago after years of suffering with what I refer to as "intestinal issues." It's not my intestines, though, it's my stomach. It's due to issues with the vagus nerve. There isn't a cure for gastroparesis and the primary "treatment" is changing what you eat. The vagus nerve is really important for stomach and gut (and many other things) so I'm just trying to do things that are helpful for that nerve. This includes meditation and stretching through the neck and upper torso. I don't know if the vagus nerve is involved in your issue but if it is, these things might help. And if it's not, these things are still good for everyone.

Whenever I have any ailments I immediately begin obsessively researching what could be wrong and how to fix it, and always thinking about the worst case scenario. I have gotten much better over the years but I still struggle with overthinking about health and what I put in my body. A big help for me is just leaning on God more and trusting in his protection. I have been hooked on your other channel since the moment UA-cam suggested it to me. Sam was right. This is a gift to us. Thank you for sharing your lives, your stories, and your time with us. So much of this podcast resonated with me for different reasons. I think over the past few years, Covid has taken away our ability to have meaningful connections with people, and we naturally miss that. Your family has felt like a connection, and I appreciate that. Now, learning more about you on this podcast, I can connect on a different level. I was born with a neurological issue that developed into something else as I got older. Things started changing when I was 17, and I have had 26 surgeries in my life. 15 of them turned out to be unnecessary because the doctors were chasing the wrong problem. I am able to live a fairly normal life, but I do struggle daily with chronic headaches and back pain, so I know how physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting that can be. Thanks again, from your Georgia family, for the light and fun that you bring to the world. Please also know that your family and your health come first. If you ever need a break, take that without hesitation, and we will all be here for you. If you ever want to talk about anything, I think there's a way to send a message or find my contact information here. Thank you again. - Blake

I'm still listening to the pod cast as I type this but you have opened a can of worms here.
I was born in Dayton, Ohio in 1956. At birth, I had a hernia and was kept for some corrective surgery. Once released from the hospital, Mom wrapped me up and laid me in the front seat of the car and took off to her sister's to show me off. As she went around a curve, the passenger door popped open and I slid out of the car. Yes, I started life as a stunt baby.
Ohio has moderate winters. When I was 7, I went out to play in the snow. I ended up in the hospital with severe pneumonia during Christmas. Just about every year after that if I wasn't careful, I'd end up with bronchitis or pneumonia. Now that I live in the south, I don't have that problem much anymore.
Skipping up to 2019, I notice a strange pain at the base of my tongue. Turns out I had throat cancer. I thought it was strange because I never smoked or drank alcohol. My doctor told me it was a mild cancer and easily treated with an 85% survival rate. By the middle of October I completed my radiation and chem treatments and was declared cancer free.
Previously my doctor told me everything looked good but if the cancer came back it would be much worse and most likely terminal. About six weeks later a routine scan detected cancer in my throat again. I was told I had two options, 1 no treatment 4 months to live, 2 , chemo/radiation, 9 months to live.
They forgot option number 3. I called my pastor. He gathered some men from our church and they gathered around my hospital bed. He anointed fore head with oil and prayed for my healing. God answered that prayer. My cancer was gone. I had two oncologist, one from the VA the other a civilian that had diagnosed the cancer in me. Both were shocked to see it was gone. I received a miracle that day. I have been cancer free since.
Even though I am now I'm in better heath even before I got sick there are some after effects. I lost 100 lbs. The radiation damaged my throat and the cancer damaged my trachea. I have a Tracheotomy to protect my airway. I cannot eat solid food and have been eating Ensure plus and bottled water through a feeding tube connected to my stomach,
I am not looking for sympathy or anything like that. I have a great life and I am very thankful for my life. Like Sam's story, I hope to inspire someone having health issues to hang in there and maintain a good positive attitude. I fully believe in God, faith and the power of prayer. Without it, I would have died by January of 2020.
