- US President Joe Biden has outlined a new Israeli proposal to end the conflict in Gaza, saying "it's time for this war to end".
He has set out a three-stage roadmap - involving a six-week ceasefire that would become permanent and then the rebuilding of Gaza with international assistance.
Biden has urged Hamas to "take the deal", while also pressing all Israeli political leaders to do the same.
Israeli forces are currently in central Rafah, in Gaza's south, but earlier this week the White House said the IDF had not crossed any red lines set by the US President.

There are countless examples of The IDF breaking their own rules and the law. Countless examples of Israel not denying this but not investigating it either. Tbh, what’s been confusing from day 1 of this whole situation is that it’s possible to both condemn the Hamas attacks _and_ think Israel has been more than heavy-handed in its response to October 7th. It’s possible to support Palestinian freedom from Israeli state oppression without being antisemitic just as it’s possible to support Israel against Islamist aggression without being anti-Muslim. These 2 things are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Too many folk are either one thing or t’other in this conflict when it’s possible to be both/and.

Phrasing it as "the withdrawal of Israeli troops from populated areas of Gaza" would allow Netanyahu to interpret it as "leave Rafah as an overpopulated, starving, tent-city and steal the rest". This is not a good-faith negotiation.

Because more than 2/3 of Gaza has pretty much been depopulated. That phrase "all populated areas?" is pretty dubious in the present context of on the ground reality. Israelis forces will be allowed to stay in practically all of Gaza except the tent camps by the shore.
