Begs the question: does the AI expect humanity to go back to Hunter/gatherer stage with associated short lifespan etc? Or will it provide meds/education?
Richard PJ you're missing the bigger picture. Ai indeed took over, but in the wrong direction and enslaved humanity from polluting or whatever and thats the side effects of AI taking over!
@@fahey7335 Our instincts were designed for a primitive world like that, our emotions and our brain are not evolving along the technology as that is progressing much faster than human biology. So it is very possible we would live much happier or emotionally richer life there. I can easily imagine that. Like it makes sense that an AI designed to maximize human happiness would do that to us. However you may think that technology will give us more degrees of freedom and that is generally will leave us with better more rich life. But who knows where will technology leave us, it may turn out that we will never be able to fully utilize technology cause our 'limited' brains or cause our evolutionary past, the AI knowing this will force us to live without developing advanced technologies and hence preventing us from the technological path that would be eventually a dead end to the human race. Also AI could have reasons that we could never understand, yet these reasons would be really the best for all of us. Its bit open ended scifi, its to entertain an idea and not to judge it.
Good effort productionwise, but very weak writing and screenplay. I think the actors are probably good too but had to try their best with what they were given here. I watched an officer complain about his non functioning AC for a year. He refused to let me look at it, because AC wasn't my specialty. Five times it was attempted to be repaired. One day I was close, I took a look. Then plugged it in to the outlet. Problem solved. I had been warmed that I could electrocute myself, being untrained.
I have watched several sci-fi movies and realised there is always the stereotype beef headed military leader and a science attache who is viewed with all the contempt and suspicion mustered. I like this movie for its environmental theme.
I liked it. Great sound effects, very good story line and the actors were caricatures of how we do solve problems and how we should solve problems. "Problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them"-- Albert Einstein
Loved it, it's sad when the first thing people do when they see something they don't understand that that want to destroy it. Thank God there are some of us that are not like this.
Scuba Steve I agree. It is the Ego, a survival mechanism from our beginnings that served to make everything suspicious and harmful until proven otherwise. The good news is there is a new version, 4.0, that can see past the Ego's chatter and is understanding that we are a part of everything we see. Some are even realizing that we create this reality.
@@prospero4183 I didnt say that we *need* to see past the Ego; I said there are children/people being born today that have the ability to see past it. Empaths and INFJ are two personality types that are becoming more common, though both make up only 3-5% of the population right now.
I dont understand the complaints. I thought this was amazing. I was mad when it was over lol. This would be an awesome full length movie, and even better a series!

Was the point of the short to show just how stupid someone in charge can be? This was bad. Tells her to brief everyone on the ship, then cuts her off within a few seconds. The script was terrible.
@Peter A. What is annoying is people like you who get triggered by cultural difference. This is set only 8 years from now, where the US will probably still be using miles, so this measurement is accurate for this short film. However, the original comment is referring to the fact that a radius is of a circle, not a square, regardless of measurement. Not all of the rest of the world uses kilometres, the UK for example still uses miles on the road, as do a lot of islands with historic UK and US ties, like the Bahamas and the Virgin Islands.
@@largelarry2126 It's not about the shape of it, it's about how measurement is expressed. "Square ____" anything is a measure of area, not of distance. A radius is a straight line from the center of an area to the edge of it, usually (and probably the intent in this case) a circle, though in practice in situations like this it's not really that precise, it's not like anyone has gone out there and drawn a mark on the forest floor at the perimeter, it's just a rough idea. The word 'square' shouldn't have been there and if they wanted to describe the shape of the area more precisely they'd have used an overlay on a map.

For me, a really brilliant film, a very real vision of the world in the near future. Maybe with the exception of people flying in high-tech aircraft and using energetic weapons ... or people in general.
@Peter A. I wrote "near future", I didn't give the date, like in the movie.
DUST never disappoints! Graphics, story line, sound, location, and all in-between are so on point.
Thank you for the compliments and for watching!
I really enjoyed this. Seems there are alot of critics. Good job!
what a loc! this is the beginning of a new video game!
Waiting lot for this.. Going to watch😀😀
From start to finish ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
We need a self-healing forest technology.
Your video makes for a great concept film for a future series., or a warning to us all. Great job, I enjoyed the film, continuity, flow, graphics, acting and writing are all first rate. Thanks for an entertaining film.
@@Bibibosh You think its bad to go back to the hunter/gatherer life style, but maybe the ai knows it better than all of us here...
@@fahey7335
Our instincts were designed for a primitive world like that, our emotions and our brain are not evolving along the technology as that is progressing much faster than human biology.
It doesn't matter, peace is worth much more, and community and working together. We all end up in same place at the end. Bring back humanity.
Hook What would happen is we'd go back to 50% child mortality and a life expectancy of less than forty for those that made it to adulthood
Ok, I am sold on it.
"square miles radius" ok......
XD
LOL I know right
🤣
Lmao
That made me squirm too.
Well that was electrifying!!! and definitely a different take on Gardeners World!!!
Anyone who has seen how military commanders interact with their medical officers will appreciate the realism of this film.
Very good film, I hope there's a full-length version in the works.
I love you @DUST
Awesome
Good effort productionwise, but very weak writing and screenplay. I think the actors are probably good too but had to try their best with what they were given here. Suggested solution next time: use a script editor or have several people help polish it more before going from page to production. That said, you made it, and I still appreciate the work to make it so thank you! Do more, please. Keep going.
didn't expect something like this from DUST
To steal a quote from Babylon 5: "Worst case of testosterone poisoning I've ever seen"
Now *THERE'S* a well-written series! One of the few older sci-fi series that still holds up. Well, if you can gloss-over the cgi.
I Loved that little film, it would be great too see a longer version or a little sequel.
Great sound track and score
Thanks so much! It was such a fun project to score.
Agreed! Very immersive and compliments the action quite well. Thanks for watching!
Not one of the most original sci-fi short subjects; however, it keeps simple minds entertained. More important, appreciate where it was filmed - some interesting flora and fauna. Not a bad hiking spot to keep one busy. Probably some great specimens for collection. Place was like an overgrown terrarium to say the least - enuf said!
This short hits every nerve . A shoot first, dont listen to anybody ragged out stereotype that grates on me. Audio continuity is horrible but the camera work rocks , as does the film editor, wardrobe is wtf? I know I always picked purple as my go to camouflage in country, right LT?
It's not horrible , it's rushed and contrived and lazy. Do it again.
Love it. Forests and jungles are beautiful places.
Oh yes - this is a very cool idea to wear a violet jacket when you are a soldier and go into a freaking FOREST :)
MORE!!!!!!!
What!! That’s how it ends?!? Nooo please give us more!!
It wasn't the end, it was the beginning :)
The moment of enlightenment
I liked it. Great sound effects, very good story line and the actors were caricatures of how we do solve problems and how we should solve problems. "Problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them"-- Albert Einstein
I think this sets up huge potential for a full-length feature, lots of themes to explore and dig into. Well made indie!
LOL. Every bad Hollywood sci fi cliche condensed into 15 minutes.
This would make a great movie
Timeline is ridiculous. The damage we've metted out will take well over 100 years to reverse.
Despite all bad comments.. I will give a 👍🏼
The briefing was a copy of Aliens.
Ripley is asked to describe the zernomorph but is cut off.
More Satori. Exciting premise.
For a devistated earth it is rather verdant and full of bird and insect noises. Ho Hum, another earth disaster movie!
Devastated? No....saved.
Loved it, it's sad when the first thing people do when they see something they don't understand that that want to destroy it. Thank God there are some of us that are not like this.
Scuba Steve
I agree. It is the Ego, a survival mechanism from our beginnings that served to make everything suspicious and harmful until proven otherwise. The good news is there is a new version, 4.0, that can see past the Ego's chatter and is understanding that we are a part of everything we see. Some are even realizing that we create this reality.
@@robynannan7015 strange that u say its a survival mechanism, and we need to see past it, when it has saved man kind before we were chimps.
@@prospero4183
I didnt say that we *need* to see past the Ego; I said there are children/people being born today that have the ability to see past it. Empaths and INFJ are two personality types that are becoming more common, though both make up only 3-5% of the population right now.
@@robynannan7015 from where do you take those numbers, how are people with those properties exactly defined
@@chuckhutch4104 They might not be individually, but in a group they sure as hell are.
Action in the forest or stupid conversations in a dark room - an easy way to make a low budget sci-fi movie.
I dont understand the complaints. I thought this was amazing. I was mad when it was over lol. This would be an awesome full length movie, and even better a series!
You can't be serious..... this is the mother of all woke toxic tree fairy fantasies. It uses every post modern trope and stereotype in the playbook. At best it shows how delusional the thinking of these ideologicaly possessed people are.
Wow. This short really rubbed me the wrong way. I could go on posting a critique but I feel it is more constructive to let creators try out their ideas. This being said, PLEASE stop recycling old sci-fi clichés!
I love this type of adventure, suspense of jungle ...
Music during the end credits have a hint of "Predator"
One of the best shorts on DUST in the past few months. Even though there are some weaknesses.
As I have noticed in films, when there is an apocalypse , zombies, etc., women rules.
ej not ending this wunderful muvie :) more off it more :)
What is a square mile radius? What does that mean?
Excellent everything. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I laughed, I cried, I gave it a 2.
The award winning creation of future world
Was the point of the short to show just how stupid someone in charge can be? This was bad. Tells her to brief everyone on the ship, then cuts her off within a few seconds. The script was terrible.
Really nice story line , and concept .
love from india
no close captioning and sound quality was really poor..not helpful for those with hearing issues,
This feels almost illegal watching This Masterpiece Short for FREE
What is a five hundred and seventy six square mile radius? Or any square mile radius?
@Peter A. Not his point, the issue is using square miles to measure the radius of a circle. A radius should be in miles not square miles.
They need to make up their minds, is it square or round?
@@largelarry2126 It's not about the shape of it, it's about how measurement is expressed. "Square ____" anything is a measure of area, not of distance. A radius is a straight line from the center of an area to the edge of it, usually (and probably the intent in this case) a circle, though in practice in situations like this it's not really that precise, it's not like anyone has gone out there and drawn a mark on the forest floor at the perimeter, it's just a rough idea. The word 'square' shouldn't have been there and if they wanted to describe the shape of the area more precisely they'd have used an overlay on a map.
@Peter A. Noah..cubits...arms lengths.
Very well done, and if it was a full movie,Wow.
What is a "square mile radius"?
A multidimensional unit of measure?
A technobabble?
Artistic licence?
I think it's the radius of a square mile circle. My degree is in Lesbian Dance Theory, so take it with a grain of salt. I hope that helped!
I can square a circle. Step 1 put circle in box. Step 2 close n seal box. Squared circle,I'm here all week
@Peter A. But can you circle a square?
so well done, the ending is great..... typical fighting human, stop look listen.... Peace
Where can i watch the full production credits without buying a 1000" TV please?
