I have a '91 Corvette Convertible where the fuel sending unit failed, it was registering full all the time. First, I thought I'm getting great gas mileage, but no. After watching this video, it helped me pull and replace the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Like yours it came unassembled. I decided to replace the fuel pump as well even though the old one still worked. The biggest challenge was getting the new assembly seated deep enough in the gas tank well in order to bolt the unit to the top of the tank. The tips here made the job so easy. It took me about a half hour or so. Thanks for the tips, keep your great videos coming.
I never cease to marvel over your camera skills . It may be a good idea to replace the gasket with an OEM one , not paper , and OEM bolts that come with an O ring on them to protect from water finding it's way into the tank .
Hey Chris! Had to tell you how informative your C4 info has been. Just brought home a 1987 Red convertible C4 with 50,000 original miles, in mint condition! It's been really well taken care of, always garaged, but likely not used enough, so your info is very informative, and easily explained! I'm here in Bisbee, Arizona. I'm now a subscriber! Thanks again! Jeff.
Chris I just joined because you take the time to show all the small items. I’m changing my fuel pump on my ‘96 and couldn’t get the connector off. Thank you for showing me the right way. Like the other poster I too wish you were my neighbor👊👊
You installed a pulsator. Do you think it’s necessary? I noticed the new all in one fuel pump sender assembly’s use a rubber house. So which is correct? Does the pulsator just snap on or is there any trick to installing?
I'd recomend posting the part numbers of all the parts you bought. That would be really helpful. Those plastic pieces you got that go on the fuel pump, I hadn't seen others getting those pieces. So I wasn't aware of those parts until I watched this video. If/when I do mine, I'll put a piece of fuel injector hose in place of that pulsator just because they are so expensive. I would have gotten a new gasket for the assembly. They don't cost much. I'm thinking of just ordering the parts to have on hand incase when/if my pump dies. I may just replace if though as a preventative measure. I would probably get the Delphi pump and screen as I know they are a good brand.
Chris, I've got a 93 convertible and need to replace the fuel tank sending unit due to the inaccuracy of the fuel gage. It will show two or three bars but start to sputter due to running out of gas. I was going to have my shop do this repair/install but after watching your vid I think I'll give it a go myself. Thanks!
Where can i find these parts? My c4 will start but will kill soon after and maybe at lights. Lasy year i did my injectors and still had a stumble when i give it some. Already done fuel filter as well.
Thanks for the how to. I replaced mine. It went well. I noticed that each bolt had a rubber seal, maybe that was added by whomever replaced the OEM pump However still no start maybe Optispark needs to go
Thanks Chris, in unscrewing them they had become very hard and some broke. Maybe they were very old. I tried with the unblocker but it did not help- In your opinion how can I unscrew them from inside the gas tank?
Hi, I bought an 86 C4 Corvette, and was replacing the fuel assembly with a new one and the box with my eight bolts that mount it back to the gas tank was on the small box sitting on the top of my pick up truck and I lost him driving down the highway do you know by chance what size those eight bolts are are they metrics? Are they standard any help would help
Just replaced the fuel pump and sending unit on my 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary and I don't seem to be getting any power to the pump. Car has been sitting for over 7 years. Any tips? Thanks!
Great job! You make everything look so easy!!! Once you had everything connected back, did you just crank the car or did you turn the ignition to on to see if the pump would cycle and prime the system? Keep up the great content!
Thanks for posting such a helpful video! :) My friend and I are actually looking to replace our pump/strainer as well in his '84. Would you be able to drop some links to the parts you purchased?
Watched and learned how to replace the fuel pump in my ’91 ZR-1 while waiting for the tow truck to return us to my garage…. Had I known it was so easy I would have replaced it when I replaced the not so easy to replace 16 ethanol damaged fuel injectors. How stupid of me! Thanks!
Hi Chris, I have a problem, can you help me? In removing the bolts some have broken.- Not being able to use the drill to remove them due to risk of explosion, do you have any ideas to suggest to me? I didn't want to have to take out the whole gas tank

Mine just died like you turned off the key. Couple mins. later restarted ,got me home. Threw an 0300 code. could have been about a dozen diff. things.....but....it was the fuel pump going bad ,sounded gravely. Whole unit OEM and a fuel filter $380.00
I heard that in older cars like these, the switch of ethanol to methanol (or other way around) fuel caused a bunch of gunk to build up and needs a full fuel system change, will all the gunk from other fuel parts ruin a newer fuel pump?
@@mycorvettelife oh neat so it's literally only an injection change that I need? I remember hearing the whole system needs to go which would have been a nightmare, thanks for that
Hey Chris! Ive been finding your videos very helpful recently and i have some questions about my C4. When going from nit moving to pushing on the gas, sometimes the car lurches, sputters, and even backfires a little bit. The previous owner told me he just replaced the fuel filter and pump, so I’m thinking it’s possibly bad fuel injectors. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thank you for a great video and very informative 👍🏻 Amazing...! I have a 95 C4 with 95,000 miles and the engine makes a popping sound when the motor is in full Throttle... like it's not getting enough fuel... so I changed the original Fuel Filter and the Electric Fuel Pump and it still does it... the new electric fuel pump is a (Percision Fuel Pump Kit)....Any ideas?
Little advice get a locking fuel cap someone put something in my gas tank cost me a fortune to clean out and replace the fuel pump. P.S stay away from the fuel pump pulsator I was told that it could hydrolock your engine in an instant 😳😳😳
Try replacing the pulse regulator located above the fuel pump with a piece of fuel line. After I changed mine, I have a little throttle hesitation. I believe the regulator isn't sealing well on the metal line and fuel pump.
It’s too bad GM put morons in charge of engineering for the C5. If C5 owners haven’t had to replace their primary fuel pump they are in for a shock when they do. I will not recommend a C5 to anyone due to the many stupid designs on the C5 such as the Torque tube , fuel tanks , Oil pressure sensor location, cheap Harmonic balancer , electronics under the battery and others. I bought a C5 with 7600 miles on it in 2012 and before I put 400 miles on it on a trip the fuel pump quit. We were 250 miles from home so it was towed to a local dealer. 2000 dollars later it was fixed. Surprise ,surprise !!
No BS and straight to the point. Thank you!
Yes!

Bro sameeeee I have some wiring issue in the front of engine and the glass on my hatchback won’t close 😔
I continue to be impressed on how GM built a car for the long run!
Wish they did all of their cars like this!!!
Thanks for the informative video. I now feel like I can take this fuel pump project on myself. You perform a good service keep it up

Use a worm drive clamp around pump for better pump retention to mount bracket. Oh yes Mike,
Thanks for all of your c4 videos. Helping me out a ton learning my first c4.
Nice job man!!! Thanks for describing it in detail. Impressive that you film all this without help.
Thanks to this video and the injector video I was able to bring my 87 back to life, thank you.

Thank you for all the great informative videos. My son and I are documenting our Corvette build here on UA-cam and get a lot of info from your videos.

Great tutorial my guy! Thanks
Wish they were all that easy! Great video Chris.
No kidding. The C5 is a PITA.
Awesome video
From what I read the pulsator is to dampen sound and vibration.
I am doing this exact job. Thank you for the video!!
Hey Chris, I really like your channel and also recently bought a C4. Thanks to continue with what you! Greats from Germany
And again nice work Chris thank you until next time i look forward to it.
Thank you. Just replace pump on my '87 c4:)
Nice job, very informative !
Great video bro keep them coming
You really do a nice job on these videos!
Thanks
You know why i am here :) Keep it up
Thanks for the video, fixed my 92 corvette that wouldn’t start🤟🏾
Thanks. Looks easy. I will find a video on the fuel filter. Mine has sat for many years, only 24k miles but the gas is bad.
Thanks for doing this vid I got to change mine real soon. now I am not so apprehensive about it.
Pulsators are just diaphragms that help absorb fuel pressure pulses, and help reduce fuel system noise. Does it seem any quieter now?
Not really noticeable.
I’m doing this job this upcoming weekend what exact parts do I need to get so I can make sure it’s a one stop shop
Im fixing my dads old vette to sell it. Im not a mechanic or have much experience. This seems much easier than i expected.

awesome work

Do you recommend using non oxygenated fuel in a C4?
Very good video
Nice video , very helpfull !
These cars have the easiest fuel pump to change by far!!
Great exploded view, excellent explanation on how to!! Thank you
Is there any special way to remove the pulse regulator? Or does it just pull apart? Cheers!
The regulator simply slides off of the metal fuel line, and off of the nipple at the top of the fuel pump.
Well done!
Thanks!

Great Job Chris😎👍🏾💯....
Chris, where did you order the parts from? Looking to change mine out as well on my 1987 C4, thanks😎
I bought mine from Rock Auto just be sure to buy the oem part. The cheap part I bought turned into jelly after a year of soaking in the tank.

Most of these parts were AC Delco. Everything can be found on Rock Auto.

All RockAuto

Depends on what parts. Most OEM parts I get from RockAuto.

No new gasket for the gas tank? The one where the hole unit meets the top of the tank....

Know anything about c3s ?
I haven’t worked on one yet, but maybe in the future.
