I bought a C4 recently, and I learned lots of things from this video. There's no substitute for seeing the guts of a car in this way. Your commentary is great, too. Well done, and thanks! I parted-out BMW e30 3-series cars for a while. I foolishly did that without a cordless wrench. Cranking old / often rusty bolts, in tight spaces, by hand, SUCKS!
Thanks for the positive feedback👍. Yea, tearing out chassis and rusted bolts with hand tools will make a broken man out of you very quickly😂. Its nice to have some "cheater" tools to work with.
Super helpful videos. Can you show how to remove the side panels from the C4 Corvette? I am trying to strip mine all down and don't see how to disconnect the hind quarter fender panels. I think others would like to see this also.
Glad to hear you enjoyed them, appreciate the feedback.👍 The one quirk with the C4's is that every body panel on the car is bolted to the unibody/chassis structure with the exception of the quarter panels which are still glued to the inner tube like the earlier generations of Corvettes. I will be making a video soon detailing the removal of the quarter panels on the 1992 Corvette convertible project. Hah, I know what you mean. I always loved the disassembly picture on the back cover with the Corvette in pieces, but found the tear down and troubleshooting descriptions in the book lacking in substance.
Yes, you can loosen the six mount bolts that tie the impact bar to the rear frame rails, and it will drop down just enough for you to pull the tank straight out once you remove the tank to impact bar retaining straps. Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it👍
@@VetteSource Thanks for the advice and all the great videos. I just watched your videos on removing the rear bumper so I should be good to go once I get the right hoses.
They're natural cast 15MM long thread bolts with a shoulder. From the factory they can be seen pretty easily, but sometimes cars that have aftermarket undercoating applied hides the heads of the bolts. Just look for the spot where the aluminum impact bar attaches to the steel frame rails and you'll see the heads of the bolts.
Can the fuel-cell be removed without taking the tank and everything out of the car? Can you just pull the fuel-cell out from the top with out taking the tank out of the car?
If you are referring to the fuel pump/sending unit, yes it can. It is designed to be unbolted and pulled out from the top once the fuel door assembly is removed. If you thinking of the inner plastic bladder that is inside the tank you will unfortunately be forced to pull the entire tank assembly out of the car like I showed in the video, although you will be able to leave the rear bumper cover installed during removal.
@@VetteSource i’m such a newbie when it comes to vette’s. when should i change it? how do i know i need one? i have 97k miles on it. are there ways or mods to keep water from getting in the gas tank?
Don, no worries, Corvettes are fun to learn about since they are complex enough to make then challenging. I wouldn't worry about the EVAP cannister unless you are getting a strong gas fume smell around the back of the car. With 97K miles you should still be OK. The best way to keep water out of the fuel tank is to make sure the drain hose located behind the fuel cap is not plugged up. Due to the location of the sending unit/filler neck, the Corvette engineers knew that water would get in there so that's why it has the drain hose. They just did a poor job of telling owners to check it to make sure it wasn't getting clogged up which can lead to water contamination in the fuel and destroy the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Let me know if you need anything else👍
@@VetteSource Thank you so much! the only smell i get is just the old car gas smell! i just figure old car i smell emissions sorta deal. i guess it would be behind the vehicle i just figure the exhaust.
No problem, glad to help. If you're not already, I would suggest running premium fuel on your next fill up and then poking your head around the passenger side rear wheel to see if you get the strong fuel smell while it's running. Let me know if you need anything else👍
why you guys fixing these clunkers up for? I get it thats it a corvette but you can pick up nice ones for 5-8k. I have had 2 of them. Paid 5k for a nice 94 with 100k miles. another 95 6 speed for 6k. both vg condition. sell that one for parts and make more money than its worth.
I'm guessing you didn't bother to watch the rest of the videos in this series in which I dismantled this car to sell off as parts and make a profit exactly as you described. Thanks for the comments👍.
you may not have heard, but earlier this year UA-cam decided it was going to run ads on whichever videos they wanted, even if you weren't monetized. Unfortunately I couldn't prevent them from running on my videos even if I wanted to.

Can you show how the fuel pump harness is routed to the front of the car?
Hey Greg, it is actually part of the taillight harness. I'll put together a short to show where it originates from.
Can the tank be removed without removing the impact bar , or is it easier to do it the way you demonstrated ? Great information by the way .

I'm looking to replace the rubber fuel hoses that connect to the sending unit, is there anything special I have to look for when buying replacements?
Hey Joburg, just nake sure it's flexible hose specifically rated for fuel line application, and you should be good to go.

Can this be done with the rear bumper still in place?
