I have been intrigued by the green jasper-as I learn the differences of different green stones, the jasper from Brookings and thereabouts is so beautiful!
@@OregonCoastAgates oh that's right!! And I concur! I've traveled widely, but my heart and soul belong to Oregon. Doesn't hurt that my family hails from that land back to the original settlers.
yeah me and my uncle jon went agate hunting 25 years oregon, id come to visit once a year from east coast to search n collect agates red jasper etc along roads end in lincoln city forgerhty creek and newport. coast line, even now he has passed away and we sold my grandmas house i still have 10 of 25 buckets n jars he had them in. good luck
All great places! Cool to hear you and your family had so much history and made great memories along the way. I bet there are quite a few treasures in those buckets!
@@OregonCoastAgates some of my favorite parts of the coast. I remember when there was hardly ever a soul out there. Facebook groups changed all of that. We had a little house at Roads End in Lincoln City. Is one of the only original houses through that area.
Well, first off (agates found on Oregon shores cannot be sold commercially), they are for personal use only. Secondly, agates 'can be' worth money depending on many different factors. To most people agate hunting they are never planning on selling them, but ornamental pieces to craft with or be on home display with.
I have been looking for agates for 53 years now. Agates are getting smaller and smaller and harder to find. I have buckets of them but thinking about taking them back. It's really pointless to keep them to be honest. You never look at them after getting them home. Even in a jar it's not that great.
53 year agate collection! I would LOVE to see what treasures you have in there. I'm curious too, have you tried polishing any? or crafting with any? Thats what we do with many of ours.
Really? You didn't pick up on how to look down at the ground where rocks are normally? I explained where to start off looking when you get to a beach, what some typical finds are, how to know if they are an agate vs jasper, and some of the general do's and don'ts. Whats missing? I mean you do realize finding agates are about chance right? It's not a given thing always, you have to HUNT for them.
You do realize that you can be local and a tourist at the same time right? Nothing said here is/was a secret, and the coastline is all public, so don't get it twisted. Do you hate crabbing or fishing video's because you're not catching the same about of crab or fish? This was meant to promote a family friendly recreation that anyone and everyone has the right to enjoy here.
Chalcedony, Jasper, common opal and calcite are all commonly found together in vein structures. Great finds, I love that beach. So beautiful. 🏆✌️

Areas where the cliff has landslided a bit is a great place to look..always be aware of your surroundings especially the tide!
Yes! Landslides can reveal freshies! Same idea in going the day after any major storm!
Hunt the beach closet to downtown Port Orford. Agates every day. In Bandon, the sand dollars wash up.
It great down there! We love the Gold Beach/Rouge River area too!
Fantastic storytelling and info. Love it!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video, and I appreciate your positive energy! Thank you for watching and best of luck out there!
Thank you so much!! Planning a trip there soon 🥰🥰🥰
Be sure to give us a follow on IG or here for more! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I already live there
We call the beach through the Tunnel, Lost Boys... going way back. Love Oceanside!
Lost Boy Beach is actually just beyond the next headland to the north side! They are all such magical beaches though aren't they!

I just started hunting and this video was very helpful ❤
Fantastic! Glad you found the video to be somewhat helpful! I also have a ton more on my own channel if interested.

@@SherSpirit Yeah that's a cool area for sure, whenever I go to LC I head towards Roads End and the cliffs beyond!
@@OregonCoastAgates I love Taft! Do you ever spend time there?
@@SherSpirit I've tried there but never really had as good of luck there as I have further north. I also like the spit right there too!
Spectacular!
We have so many different and awesome varieties of aggots all over the state.
Oh it's absolutely amazing isn't it?

Absolutely!
Hunted agates in Waldport, OR. Found one in two weeks of searching!
DANG IT!!!!! This beach isn't the same anymore. Tons of cars parked along the road.. some things are best left a local secret. Oh well.
How much agates are worth?
Not much they are just pretty to look at
@@robrod7120 its beautiful. I looked at it for 5 hours now

Its the journey, not the destination

Have you ever searched for agates near Brookings?
Its great down there! We prefer the Gold Beach/Rouge River area though! So many spots really.
New sub ! Liked 😀✌️🙃

Quit telling people where you go. It’s fine to tell people how to find agates but where to find them no
Never told us how to find agates. Just where.

What would be really cool is if stuff Luke this was not out in public so us locals can enjoy our hobby. Without beein suffocated by tourists.

Don't worry, I wasted my week long vacation looking for these like an idiot, I found one as big as my pinky nail 😂
