    For camping, I use the workchamp. Who is basically a handyman but larger. ❤

    Hello, i requested a handyman from my wife at Christmas. She knows nothing about saks and apparently neither does the shop assistant because she got a Swiss champ for the price of the Handyman, lol. No complaints from me.

    Handyman is my edc. I need the pliers a lot, or i'd have the ranger , wich is one less layer. Swiss champ a little to bulky, and i don't need that fishscaler and the magnifying glass anyway. So Handyman it is for me. Same as yours, with plus scales, but in blue.

    The handyman is one of my most loved models! Definitely a fantastic knife. Almost perfect EDC for me. I just don’t carry it often enough because I have started carrying smaller SAKS m.

    I put the emerald scales on mine too. Wasn't sure I'd like them until they were on, but it quickly became my favorite SAK. Ended up putting them on my swisschamp as well.

    My swiss champ is for when I'm feeling nerdy, but it is too thick and I can live without the fish scaler, inline phillips (just use the end of the can opener) and magnifying glass. Climber is good for around the house, but no saw. Huntsman is my outdoor knife, as it has the saw, but it needs a file. Might have to get me a handyman...

    The hook is really good for making carp rigs / pulling loops in knots

    i was stuck between the handyman the swisschamp and the cybertool l. in the end i ordered the swiss champ its a chunky little tool kit. then ended up getting the huntsman.

    You may know this by now but, another cool trick Felix Immler shows is using the handle of the toothpick as an improvised hook to open the tools. It's great if your nails are too short, brittle, or if the knife has some age on it.

    Very good review of some of your Victorinox collection + history. I always find the tools of very high quality, for example, knives very sharp.
    What I like about Victorinox is that they make a wide selection of multi-tools to suit every need. Great!

    I've used the chisel on my SwissChamp. I used it to cut out drain holes in a plastic soapbox.

    Happy Friday Grizz, kudos for fitting Translucent Emerald Green Plus scales on your Handyman. I have bought 4 58mm Emerald scales on Ebay to brighten up a number of small SAK's that I own such as the Rambler & the Cavalier ( bought new in box recently on Ebay ) and the 1997 Mate ( I have the 1995 1st version of the Mate with its original red scales & the 1997 2nd version of the Mate AKA the Vagabond which adds the wire stripper notch to the flathead screwdriver combo tool - the Emerald scales look great on it ) and the Minichamp Version 1 which is one tool layer less than the current model & has no pen in the scales . I will probably buy the Emerald 91mm Plus scales at some time to replace the boring classic red scales on a Climber which I seldom carry in my EDC rotation nowadays. I don't own a Handyman as IMO at 5 layers its too big for comfortable pocket carry & I am already covered with its tools in my home tool kit consisting of the Cybertool M, the Ranger, the Deluxe Tinker, the Spartan Lite & the 84mm watch opener tool, so buying a Handyman would mean even more tool duplication. What I really would like is if Victorinox would make 91mm SilverTech Plus scales as IMO they are extremely alluring on a SAK & I always get complimented by folks who line up a SilverTech handled SAK against a boring red scaled version of the same knife.

      I have emerald signature scales on a Cavalier that match. Great color.

    • @stevesinclair4159

      It sure is a great color for a 58mm SAK and to add to the aesthetics with a color contrast I have put black tipped 58mm tweezers & toothpicks in all my Emerald scaled SAKS 👍👍👍 I am also planning to dress up a newly ordered 2nd Rambler with the Tuscan Sun translucent yellow scales from a new 58mm Classic SD in that scale color, I have one in my collection & I have just bought a 2nd one when my local Victorinox dealer began a short Spring sale of selected knives at 30% discount. I will remove the very attractive translucent yellow scales on it for use on a new red scaled Rambler when it arrives ( also bought at a discount ) & put a spare Ebay bought set of rubi red signature scales on the Classic SD

    On knives that’s don’t have a file, I use the reamer as a fingernail edge scraper. It works in that capacity. Also I did try it for drilling a hole in an old leather belt and it did that job better than a drill bit would have. So if you find yourself out somewhere away from the house, and in need of another belt notch to keep the pants up after some weight loss, there’s no better tool. LOL!

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  2 роки тому +2

      I have used the reamer to make belt notches a few times. I lost 100lbs over a year and ran out of holes on two belts.

    I never get the hook hate. It's not like it's taking space from another tool. I use the hook a lot more than the scissors that come on the other side of it.

    So I carried a ranger and a mechanic so i could have all the tools I wanted then i got the 111mm work champ thinking that would replace my ranger and mechanic but im kinda disappointed it hads next to no back tools no + scales the file doesn’t have the nail cleaning tip for one of there more expensive knifes you would think they would have put more effort in it so i ordered a handyman this should be the one for me

    I don't want to offend anybody, but it seems to me that if you're carrying an SAK thicker than 4 layers, you might s well get a "Wave, You can find a mint condition 2nd generation Wave for under $40 all day long.

    • @swizzarmygrizz
      @swizzarmygrizz  11 місяців тому

      Listen it’s not about practicality, and anyone that says otherwise is fooling themselves, but there’s just something fun about carrying a big fat SAK around. Take it out, show it off, and maybe you get to use it every so often. The same applies to the Leatherman. I grant that the pliers are more serviceable, but then I think the blades and screwdrivers are not as comfortable to use as a SAK style tool, but of course it’s all a matter of preference. In both cases there is a novelty to the idea of being prepared to fix anything at any time.

      You must have the Craftsman if you have a phillips on the back instead of a corkscrew

  • @randomgamer-st1ie
    @randomgamer-st1ie Рік тому +1

    Too bad they don't let you build one a la carte. They would make a killing on custom knives. I could lose the pen blade in favor of a nail file, and lose the chisel for a phillips.

  • @Mike-kc8rl

    The Handyman is a good knife ! Not a great knife ? The lack of a proper philips driver is the reason I dont carry it ! I have tried but just is lacking that one tool that on a model this big ! I think these type of swiss army knives are really showing their age from the days before nearly all screws are philips?

    • @lemech
      @lemech 2 роки тому +3

      Yah, it’s hard to understand a handyman not having a proper Philips screwdriver.
