Got my brother a Cold Steel Tufflite (Triad lock folder) and he loves it. He's a welder and definitely falls into the category of someone who uses their knife to pry, scrape, cut, score etc. You should show off the Cold Steel Tufflite more!!
The Ontario Ice Wraith is a really good knife. Honestly, the blue one I picked up keeps up with much more expensive knives without issue, comes ridiculously sharp, and honestly looks better than many $200+ knives.
I just picked up that exact Mantis on veterans day. I love it. It's small but I have "Slightly smaller than average hands" it's super solid. It looks great. I love it!
Slightly smaller than average hands. We all know what that means. What you’ve been EDCing since you were in the womb is legal in Los Angeles county and not exactly known for its solid lock up, hardness, and edge retention

Hey DCA, I need a classy pocket knife good to carry in a tuxedo jacket pocket for groomsmen gifts for my wedding in April. Preferably made in USA under $100. TIA
The second chef knife you showed, the black handled one, is the first I got as a kitchen professional. Bought for me by the owner of the bar and I still have it but only use it at home now.
Hey Dave, I'm a self proclaimed kitchen guru and have found my love in kitchen knives. i wonder what your recommendations are for quality kitchen slicing, chopping, boning, paring, and filleting knives? Would it change for a camping environment as I m an avid camper? Thanks DCA.
You can not go wrong with the Rat One Revo Ness or any of the Cold Steels. I have all of them and they're just amazing. My Rat One has been thru stuff is the last 10 years. It's still going strong as new.
Did I order that mantis before the video finished?…..yes I did……am I going to be sleeping on the couch because I ordered it before Christmas taking it off the list of potential gifts my wife can get me?…..yes I am and it’s worth it
Back in 2019 when my mom was still at the stroke rehab hospital we had to use my Spyderco to cut up the roasted pork belly roll for Christmas dinner because my fam forgot to bring a knife, even a plastic one It was so greasy and gross, I never wanna do that again 😂😰
Was gonna grab an ontario rat for $22 but they are out of stock. 3 days before it will ship and because its not currently in stock you cant get free shipping weekend deal. LAME! Oh well... guess I will just keep my money.
Already have at least one for every possible job. Looking for 1 lok bar knife. Like the 940. Got a line on a old used one. Can’t just buy new from BM right now . They have lost their minds over there. Hope yall sell a bunch this season. Take care.
I don't know if it's still ongoing, but the Cold Steel AD-10 in S35vn was going for like $70 - $80 on Amazon a couple weeks ago. Pretty close to the Lite's pricepoint with a much more impressive steel.
I Love that SR-1 Lite, but you can't swap the clip to lefty as the screws break. No idea how it doesn't line up right once they're taken out, but it still kicks butt on everything you use it on, such a beast. AD-10 would be my pick of the bunch.
@merrickx, thanks for your reply. The clip itself is an ambidextrous shape, which is great, but the threaded tubes, scales, etc., don't seem to line back up once the screws are removed, so the heads break off. I'd still recommend it to everyone, especially for forty beans, but a shame. If you look it up online, you'll find plenty of complaints.
I am looking for a modern-traditional that leans more traditional. I love the style and feel of old knives and some modern slip joints. However, I know I won't carry them if they don't have a lock and a pocket clip. Any suggestions?
Buck has some options with pocket clips. 110 slim comes to mind. Some of the more expensive ones have other handle materials or better blade steels. S30V is really good. Honestly, lots of new stiff is better than old style stuff anyway.
Imagine your minimally acceptable to carry EDC knife. So it has all the specs you would require to carry it, but that's it. How would you prioritize upgrading that knife? In what order would you improve things like lock type, opening mechanism, blade material, handle material, fit and finish, action, aesthetics/ design?
I gotta ask since you've showcased one, is Steel Will still making and selling knives or is that older stock? They went dark on social media back in late '21 early '22. Even the retailer Knife Country i believe it is who handles a majority of Steel wills warranty stuff told me when I tried to get a new pivot screw that they believe they went out of business because they lost contact with them. Do you guys know?

False, it's the 6 inch Kris Ti-lite by Cold steel. On the one hand it is a lot of knife for the money, on the other hand its a very unusual knife. Its dumb but I love it, I rarely use it but holding it brings me joy. Would probably make a nice back up to a Svord Carcass splitter frankly.

If a knife is normally 90$ but "on sale" suddenly 30$, that means they make still manifold times margins on the 30$ and the knife could be sold as well for 15$. In case of the Ontario RAT1 which is 40$ but now 23$ things are clear. AUS-8 is the same as 8Cr13MoV like the DuraTech folder for 16$ on amazon which is frequently or allways on sale for 12$. With that steel they make still huge amounts of margins at 12$. That means the Ontario RAT1 costs to produce at most 5$. Like the Ozark Trail folder costs at Walmart 5$. That knife costs to produce, I bet you just around 1$. I believe the new model has D2 steel but not full liners. If you ask me the production costs of the RAT1 is around 3$, not more. An Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in S30V with 60 HRC costs most likely to produce not more than 8$. The margins of these knives today run into the 2000% or so. Thats why I bought several Ganzo 729 in 440C for 22$ but struck a deal with the seller for 20$. I told him the production costs of these are not more than 5$ and MSRP is sucket out of thin air.

It might surprise you to learn they might actually lose money on some items. In marketing it's called "loss leaders".
At some point getting any money back on an item that doesn't move is better than having it take up space.
