I don't see skinny jeans being as popular as they once were. I think dressing for your body shape is more popular than anything right now, so skinny jeans will "come back" for people that find them flattering, and those that dislike them will definitely stick to what they like. Personal style is what's "in" lately imo.

I work at a very popular theme park (won't say, but I bet you can guess which one). I encounter tens of thousands of new strangers daily, all wearing different clothes. As someone who loves to observe fashion, it is absolutely fascinating to see trends unfold as the year rolls by.
The most popular footwear are sambas, dunks, birkenstocks (mostly white people), crocs, and doc martens. But they all pale in comparison to vans and converse army, they're the shoes of the people.
Baggy pants. Gen Z LOVE baggy. But you'd be surprised just how many people still rock skinny or slim jeans. It VASTLY outweighs the baggy crowd, really makes you question tiktok's influence on real life.
FOG essentials. I'm not joking, it's still a thing. Carhartt. Still a thing. Gaudy luxury brand logos like balenciaga/gucci/versace. Still a thing amongst boomers and elder Millenials. Yeezy's. Still a thing.

I guess the point of my comment is that fashion trends last WAY longer than tiktok tries to sell you. People buy into trends, but they stick with their purchase for a lot longer than what you might think. The meta changes, but working class people like you and me cling to what we buy, form sentimental bonds with the clothes we wear.

hard agree!! If i stay on 'the internet' for too long I start to think everyone wears the same stuff, but there's a huge difference with actual practical real life. and a lot of people really don't give a crap about trends and have never stopped wearing skinny jeans. not everyone is on socials 24/7, which is actually really refreshing. people who are interested in fashion are nerds themselves who get really judgemental about clothes, but they're also just personal style and practical. I really like figuring out what I like throughout the years regardless of trends, I feel like personal style is way more timeless anyway. Reminds me of rewatching Skins gen 1 and seeing all the 'trendy' outfits that Michelle was wearing, which look very bad now, versus the super personal vintage style of Cassie, which I still love.

@@Anne_fka_XATM038xyeah I was wearing an outfit at work a few weeks ago, that to me seemed very average. It’s a typical baggy jeans small tshirt combo you see everywhere on TikTok. However a customer was surprised by the outfit and said I looked like someone going on a 90s euro trip. Just goes to show how much tik tok changes your perception.

Thank you for pointing out how different online fashion is to actually real life fashion.
The word “trend” totally lost its sense since we’ve been using it before internet but haven’t repurposed its meaning.

    • @Ray03595
      @Ray03595 9 місяців тому +7

Spot on about people mainly wearing skinny/slim pants. Slim/tailored fit pants especially are 100% timeless. I don't care which way to trend cycle shifts with pants. They will always be my default. The only time I wear slightly baggy pants is if they are corduroy's because they look the best with some stacking. The only time I see very wide fitting pants are with Gen-z and they usually have Sambas, Apple Headphones and every other trendy item with their fit. Not judging, but it's clear they don't have a personal style, but that takes time to develop.

Ive seen a lot more people just at casual places like trader joes or out and about in wider fitting pants, especially younger people. I expect this group will continue to wear a similar fit as they get older the next few years to the point that it's no longer a fresh or "young" style. At which point, laggards will eventually convert and it just makes sense for trend seekers to want something different, i.e. slimmer cuts.

Maybe not 2024 but I can definitely see hype beasts coming back I'm the next year or 2. with people more interested in personal style and silohets I feel like people will eventually see this take on fashion as just kinda pretentious and shift towards just wearing cool stuff cause everyone else thinks it's cool. Like we've always done that just rn people like to pretend like they don't. Rn its harder to have a "cool" fit if the emphasis is on subjective measures of style. A heaver emphasis on logos and loud obvious expenisive peices makes it easier to display how "cool" you are. Supreme made some really funny meta commentary on fashion during the hype beast era and maybe some other brands can carry that forward.

    • @ChrisWarsop
      @ChrisWarsop 9 місяців тому

I agree with this hot-take - a semi-ironic return of the 2010s hypebeast. This might be a re-up of the 2011 hypebeast (early Tyler, 5-panel Supreme box logo cap, bright colours, Vans Era or Converse One Stars, tube socks, above-knee shorts) or perhaps the early-mid-2010s HB (skinny jeans, wildly patterned zip-up hoodie, fitted cap, red distressed skinny jeans and Balanciaga Arenas). The Playboi Carti thing almost plays into this because he also once represented this era in streetwear, plus there was also something of a 'Rick Owens hypebeast' phenomenon, at least around London fashion circles in the early 10s. But I agree the emphasis would be on "logos, loud and obnoxious", perhaps as a reaction against the subdued and minimalist shift Drew mentions in the video.

  • @ellhufhes4407
    @ellhufhes4407 9 місяців тому +2

    me:
2010s is calling but were giving it a makeover think 2010 maximalism it will be here but it will be different than before - it will be more curated - think colourful hair but done as an undercut instead of the whole head because they want a pop but still work a corporate job cause they're not 15 anymore
I think the colour of the year will be in the pink family
the resurgence of ugly clothes is going away because people are not buying into the gimmicks anymore
higher fashion houses are leaning away from baggy clothes - more body skimming clothes
studs are going to be on the come back
bows are going to stay but I think into summer we will see roses and different flowers but also hearts more into fashion - as in hair pieces / rings
interesting bag shapes for winter - think triangles / scoops for the shoulder so they sit well on top of big coats
modesty on the rise for the summer
I think maximalism will stay but it will be different than before - it will be more curated - think colourful hair but done as an undercut instead of the whole head because they want a pop but still work a corporate job
    my mum:
gold is going to be the more popular metal and silver will take the back fall
tighter clothes are coming back - cinched waist jackets
cropped jackets - playing into different silhouettes that can be created
high slits in skirts but midi length

As for the opium core I think that’s just yet another gen z tiktok BS aesthetic that generally remains on tiktok. It looks like goth gone streetwear. Wearing all black isn’t exactly groundbreaking enough for its own aesthetic label imo. Will everyone start wearing skinny jeans? Doubtful. I think there are so many micro cultures and micro trends that an overall trend doesn’t apply too much. My hot take is not one which I want to see, but one I really believe is an unfortunate reality - I think fast fashion garbage is about to have an even bigger boom, and that people criticising fast fashion will increasingly be labelled as nasty classist stuck-up people who don't want the poors to have the latest trends. The idea that most young people actually care about progressive issues beyond insta clout points is nonsense - hell, a recent NYT/Siena College Poll found that more of the supposedly woke 18-29 year olds are likely to vote for Trump than Biden. This is the era of image - the era of the hyper quick trend cycle, and the era of the majority (not all, but still the majority) feeling the need to conform to this. I don't really think anyone will care for very long where there clothes come from - the zero buzz over the recent Bangladeshi strikes just shows this. Ironically, for many, caring about how trends are damaging the environment and contributing to foreign slavery will some becomes a past trend in itself...and very cringe and out of style!

There's no way that currently young fashionable people want to be seen in skinny jeans, because that's just still 'normal' jeans for average 'boring' people at this point. Skinny and slim jeans have been currently a thing since 2007, and it took like 2020 to really get out of 'cool' style again. Now it's barely 3 years of wider trousers entering the mainstream and these fashion content creators are already saying that skinny and slim jeans are 'coming back'? Coming back from what? What I’m saying is you can wear what you like but not to EXTREME trendiness. Those types of things tend to fall off and look strange. I would say the best method is retaining small amounts from each little era.

skinny jeans: honestly, because of "trendy" looks nowadays, skinny jeans may come back... but not as trendy as they used to be around the early 2010s (if I'm not mistaken). Skinny jeans probably WILL come back, but more creative and more similar to wider/baggier pants now.
opium core: I've never actually heard of this, so this one is interesting! I've seen the outfits before but never thought anything about this because it's not my favorite style. It's not trendy and popular though, and it may just become something that people start wearing as casual outfits that you put on through the day.
AI outfits: Now this is a good fashion take, in my opinion. I think that fashion will rely on AI for a short period of time. It'll be iconic, unforgettable, never seen before, it'll be a whole era. Maybe not in 2024 though - it's a possible chance that this era can happen in 2025!
feathers: YESSSSS! I can 100% see this being a trend. If you think about it, feathers (especially pastel ones) will be seen as feminine, which will replace the ribbon's legacy. Plus... anyone can turn anything into a style or accessory soo... maybe this will be a trend next year!

I feel like it will be once the general public start to adapt to baggy jeans that we will begin to see “fashionable people” wearing slimmer jeans.
Also I think it differs for men and women. Women have been wearing wider jeans for a while now. Since probably 2018. Men on the other hand have only moved away from skinny jeans since 2020. I think baggy jeans will at least last the lifetime that skinny jeans did.

one thing i think is starting to rise in popularity thanks to individuals such as tyler the creator are small dainty watches.
this already came about in some form with the rise of quiet luxury as people were wanting to buy cartier watches because their size and shape was well equated with the quiet luxury look.
i think people have slowly realized they do not necessarily need to spend the cartier price points to get the same look and feel.
other brands like casio, timex, and seiko are more affordable alternatives to getting a watch that has that similar look to the cartier tank or the santos dumont.
i also think that more digital watches might be on the rise, specifically the smaller and retro casio watches as they can be more popular amongst a younger audience and people with different fashion senses.
also tim dessaint made a video a while ago about buying his first luxury watch with the cartier santos and i think that shows a rising popularity amongst the influencers.

I could see feathers trending, but I doubt they'll have as explosive of a rise in popularity as bows did. DIY is a huge thing in fashion rn and part of the reason bows got so big is because most people wouldn't even need to buy anything to add a bow to something, and most of the time no assembly or other materials are needed aside from just tying it. Most people don't have feathers lying around, even as cheap as they are, and to do anything more than stick a feather in your hair you'd need to do annoying/permanent stuff like glue it down...but maybe it's just my personal grudge against feathers talking lol

Ironic and a paradox all those hating on skinny jeans once wore them and just hating to be and feel valid because wide and baggy has been trending for the past X years. I welcome skinny jeans, and tbh it’s not that they went out, people still wear them, it’s just that the hypebeasts jumped onto the next «new» thing tho fashion has been stagg sting since the 2000’s. It’s just going in a loop depending on what people make trendy. Personally I welcome skinny jeans becaue wide fit/wise legged and baggy doesn’t fit my body type/size as it only makes me look shorter and more obese. And skinny jeans can be comfortable if spandex and with more elestan, yet that also means the jeans won’t last as long. That and the fact that most are low rise and not in bigger sizes is why it’s a challenge, and I have to wear a belt or they will slide down. We need to normalize that everything goes now, and that trends aren’t exactly the same as having good style or fashion in general. Trends comes and goes, fashion is timeless and classic. And I only wore super/extreme skinny jeans🤣🤣🤣 I also think hat many of the haters has issues as it also correlates to feminism and women, as they thinks wkinny isn’t manly, looks feminine or that it’s gonna make them go sterile, yet at the same time it’s hilarious as to little they knowing regards to fashion history whilst claiming to be all about fashion when they are this clueless and prejudice. Fabric and garments doesn’t have gender nor does color. What many today see or regard as feminine due to western hetero norms, religious brainwashing and patriarchy was originally invented for and by men… pants was 1st invented by steppe people who where warriors, skinny pants, and tall ankle boots was 1st worn by soldiers, and even Napoleon wore heels. Women didn’t wear any of these as they weren’t soldiers nor allowed to ride horses back then.

Statement Socks with sneakers. Winter boots in spring and fall also. Oversized top ( sweatshirts still hot. Knit in fall and spring - larger knit/yarn) , platform shoes-loafers, sandals, sneakers. Crossbody bags either small ( wallet or cute shapes/quilted) or very big sac /half moon. Stud earrings . Bracelets . Rings . Ribbons small bow long string. Pins on bags/hats/cute keychains . Ps. What is def out- stripper fashion. Fishnet. See thru anything being worn as a top. As for women/girls- heavy makeup is out. The worst offenders of "too much" is kardashian /cardi. Waist lenghth hair and great skin is in. Cute nails 3d . For Guys- great cologne will be in. Yes scent counts😂. Great personal style that's "clean" in appearence. Go to a Barber ( you would be surprised how many guys don't care about their hair or beard) . Get pedicures ! Wear sandals in summer. Designer. Nice bracelet or watch.

disclaimer: i mostly come from a women's fashion standpoint which inevitably had different experiences in terms of trends and marketing over the past 4 years compared to men's fashion.
i think i disagree with the take that minimalism is gonna be more "in" for 2024, because while historically trends like mcbling, hypebeast, and logomania are known for their excessive flaunting of wealth and maximalist aesthetics as a result, 2022-2023 saw a lot of emphasis on corpcore, quiet luxury, old money, the "clean girl" and this idea that clean minimalist aesthetics are the height of wealth and luxury. the natural progression from advertising minimalism as luxurious is to gravitate toward more layered and almost "cluttered" styling as its deliberately messy opponent.
i think we'll instead see a more garish and almost trashy maximalistic-- but not necessarily opulent-- look that's at times reminiscent of the indie sleaze that rose up in the mid-late 2000s. things like long fur-lined coats, leather or suede jackets, and deconstructed trenches with more "messy" outfits, along with prominent but more hastily applied makeup, and so on. formal wear elements like waistcoats, ties, blazers, etc. will imo be styled in bolder ways that are very much not suited for the workplace as a sort of caricaturistic imitation of streamline corporate wear (think 80s new wave) as resentment for the typical 9-5 hustle amid various global disasters grows.
generally i think people are gonna be more drawn to lived in but "loud" clothes (hopefully secondhand and leaning toward natural fibers/textiles as we grow more conscious of our consumption) that starkly contrast the crisp, streamline, mass produced jumpsuits and basics that were peddled to us by influencers and brands. at least that's the direction i'm hoping for in upcoming fashion trends. :')

I don’t doubt that skinny jeans will come back at some point but the weird thing is that the general population still hasn’t even begun to wear baggier jeans yet. In the city (NYC) you absolutely are seeing it especially gen z but back home in jersey you don’t see it much at all. It’s going to be interesting to see if the general population will just “miss” this trend as the influencers move on. Or will they start adopting the look and it’s bigger than ever. Honestly, not sure which but I will say in Europe such as Paris, ppl were rocking baggier pants. They weren’t as baggy as tiktok rn let’s say but I could see that kinda look coming here. It was more blended into the general aesthetic there. Also, this was back in the beginning of 2022 they’ve been on it.

Feathers scare me, I feel like there's a line of cultural appropriation that feathers could easily cross over. It just feels like a big no in my book, I'm curious to hear what others might think though!

What culture are you appropriating? Bird culture?

If feathers were to become fashionable, i doubt most would consider it cultural appropriation at all. Most of the feathers worn by, say, indigenous people are not even available to the general public to buy (like eagle feathers for instance).

Cultural appropriation. Haha. After attempting to track down Apache in New Mexico, the U.S. army found their soldiers had started wearing traditional Apache moccasins because their military-issued boots were literally shredded apart in the desert terrain. Moccasins in various different styles have consistently been a staple for all Americans at least since that time. It's practical. I get it. However, I never see non-Native people, for example, adding beadwork to their mocs and relating it to some sort of usurped spiritual significance. And I certainly don't see the mainstream attempting to do so with feathers, for one because of the laws, but also just because Natives would overwhelmingly not care at all or just laugh, and it would instantly become kitchy and ironic for the artsy and afluent types and any attempt by the rest would be subsequently taken to be tacky and tasteless. Birds are literally in every culture worldwide, and people should perhaps first consider why they would use their feathers to accessorize in the first place. This seems like the natural progression rather than malicious cultural thievery and exploitation (there is more than enough of that still going on), so to imagine fashion and beauty trends even making a significant negative impact in comparison is ignorance. If anything, casual artistic expression brings understanding and appreciation by the mass consumers and ultimately benefits the Native people.

I don't love the opium core look tbh, the last thing fashion needs is more mundain shades or colours gotta spice it up with vibrant colours again. I'm not against skinny jeans beacause I think that wouldn't be to the extent of 2010's but it would more be fitted outfits which I like. The extremely laxed oversized fits were never my thing I like more of a fitted workwear outfit. Similar to like Kanye in recent years.

I dont think we will go super skinny jeans like early to mid 10s. Remember big jeans are associated with a lot of cool underground cultures from the 90s/00s like skaters, hiphop, and grunge wich are still going strong. If you look at the world sociopolitical its not in a good place compared to the economical growth in the 10s. In down times underground culture often thrives. The skinny jean and a plain white slimfit tshirt belong to an era of economical growth, the same era when hypebeast fashion was considered cool. At the same time i agree that the pendulum has swung too far in one direction, and we´re gonna tone down the size of the most extreme big jeans. But we´re not gonna remake the 10s stylewise since the world has changed a lot.

I think Opiumcore can translate to the current Techno wave thats happening in Europe. The similarities of wearing black colourless outfits and loud accesoires, with the neo-goth vibes. It makes sense in my head. The younglings get hard for the aesthetic and their dream outfits are Rick Owens Raf Simons definately

I think 2024 will be the year when traditional costumes of those culturally rich countries will be trend. For example, I am a Vietnamese, I think they will innovate the Ao Dai in a new and more fashionable way. Or we can say, more modern.

I disagree with ALOT of the points made in this video. I feel like 2024 will be more 2023 but everything will be exaggerated and maximum over minimalism

I would say 2024 if the death of the collab sneaker. It's just not as important any more. Look at the UA-cam views on the biggest sneakertubers.

I feel like fashion is opulent especially when people are struggling financially! I guess it's some kind of escape?
