i dont know why nike/adidas thing matters so much. I skate and i have a few nike hoodies/zip ups. Its not very visible that theyre nike, yet i still wear them with sambas or forum lows. I try to make my outfits cohesive, so the whole image isnt bad at all... An outfit is not just about brands, its about how to combine pieces in a pleasing manner. So what if my hoodie has a tiny nike logo lmaooo
"Blue, brown, and black together don't work" is something that I hear from people of an older generation. Not sure the same idea is shared with current generation z fashion.
I think there's some validity to this myth. If the main color story of the outfit isn't about the black/blue/brown, it's best to go for only one of those colors. For example, you could use a black turtle neck, black shoes, bag etc to compliment a red suit, or swap for a brown turtleneck, brown shoes, bag...even navy would look cool. Now imagine the same red suit with brown shoes, a black turtleneck, and a navy bag...in my mind that doesn't look good. (Though I'm sure it works some of the time, there are a lot of amazing people that can style the wildest outfits). When the outfit is intentionally built around a color pairing such as black and brown, that does look really neat.
Hi, Drew! Love your content. I do have to disagree with the "don't mix Adidas and Nike" take, though. I don't personally do it myself; however, I don't think that someone else who chooses to mix these brands automatically means they are not stylish/are steering away from style. Not everyone has the privilege to avoid mixing brands due to class discrepancies. Sometimes people rely on hand-me-down clothes, and if that's the case, I believe they can still be stylish even if they have to or choose to mix Adidas and Nike. I also think there's room for challenging political and class ideologies by doing so. All best!
I think you can mix whatever brands you want. Unfortunately, big brands do not give a damn about you. They are not loyal to you, you are just a source of income and they'll do whatever they can to make you spend your money. If they are not loyal to you and don't care about you, then why should you be loyal to them? Brand loyalty is silly for this reason. Wear whatever brands you want, or screw the big brands because they often have terrible ethics and wear something better. And don't throw out your clothes unless they are literally trash. If they're still wearable, sell them or donate them so they can be worn for years to come. And before throwing out your trash clothes, do a search on google for anywhere near you that takes old garments or shoes and reuses them in other ways.
I have a personal fashion myth my mother instilled into my brain at such a young age. She would never allow me to incorporate black shoes with white socks (and vice versa). It’s weird because growing up I’d always have her voice in my head whenever I would mix the two together saying “only mailmen and police officers do that.” As I developed my own style throughout the years I’ve realized she was wrong. I tend to enjoy the look of black shoes with the pop of white socks in my outfits. Idk it’s just something that stuck with me for ages. Lol great upload btw 👍🏾
I’m a 90’s kid that played basketball… white socks and black shoes was by FAR the best look. I would only wear black kicks w/white socks and the dummy’s with no style would always tell me to not wear that.. now they have pictures of them wearing black socks and black shoes in high school.. so gross 🤢
For anyone interested in visual art in general, like fashion design, art history, industrial design, the movie "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events" from 2004 is a must see. I have seen few initial seconds of it on TV, by chance, back in the days and remained glued to the screen. The way they "styled" it visually was mind-blowing for me. It is deja vu but it ain't deja vu...that type of style game. Very interesting how they pulled that one off.
@@siffchristensen6344 Yes it surely is a "particular visual experience". Like it ain't movie but painting, or music video or commercial advertising video. It is very hard to pin it down entirely.
I think one factor to consider on the topic of mixing jewelry metals is the vast difference in cost. Silver being much cheaper can come in larger, more ambitious and detailed designs, whereas the majority of gold pieces tend to be more subdued and clean in execution, simply because there's less metal to work with at an accessible cost. So it's not just the color mixing that one needs to think about, but the style/genre mixing as well.
Drew is real and speaks from experience and just in general from the heart, he's genuine, calm and well educated. We appreciate your channel and keep it up my bro!!
I agree that you don’t have to be tall/skinny to be stylish. I’m only 5’7 so there are some things that just don’t fit with a smaller body type. For example the baggy jeans imo don’t look good as it makes me look even smaller and doesn’t really fit the proportions I’m going for. But at the same time while I may not be able to wear some styles I can still be stylish just in a different capacity.
Wear whatever, and don’t be a slave to fashion. Remember in the grand scheme of things it’s not that important, not like how you treat people and being kind ,those things really matter.
I'm sorry, but I don't see anything wrong with mixing Nike with Adidas. If a like a pair of shoes, socks, leggings, sweatshirts, etc I don't care what brand it is as long as the products are made with good and eco-friendly materials. The stigma of mixing brands screams 'brand obsessed' for me.
Agreed on trends; most consumer trends are a tool for brands to keep lining their own pockets by convincing us that we have to keep spending our money on the latest shoe or phone in order to prevent some random stranger from laughing at us. If we just appreciated what we had, these companies would shutter and ultimately our economy would take a hit, so they spend billions on runways, articles and UGC to get the word out that some random color (that they've struck a deal with Pantone over) is suddenly in lol
I will never understand why people think Nike and Adidas can't be worn together. They're just brands, if you're worried about two logos clashing then you need to remind yourself what silhouette, texture, drape, color, and details are all about. Giving this much of a shit about brand logos is pretty cringey.
debunking style myths to yourself feels like a therapy to me, because these myths were instilled in a very young age, and opening my mind to new combinations/variations/etc takes you back to "why i think this way" and "do i really like like that or i've been told so" etc
IF YOU’RE NOT MIXING NIKE AND ADIDAS, YOU’RE NOT LIVING LIFE DANGEROUSLY. IF YOU RIDE ROLLERCOASTERS, AND SEEK THRILLS AND ADRENALINE, YOU BETTER WEAR NIKE AND ADIDAS TOGETHER.
Honestly, I think as for having “note-worthy style” is looking for pieces (and brands) that feel true to you. I started to practice the “find myself” in every store I go and I be finding cool stuff. Because one thing I noticed in fashion people is that they shop EVERYWHERE. Also, I’m getting into buying silver jewelry and mixing metals because I kinda’ feel bored of gold.
Honestly, being against mixing Nike and Adidas feels like a weird self imposed limit. As long as you're mixing the right matching aesthetics, it should be fine. But like the traditional Adidas tracksuit with air Jordans, that would just look bad.
I think for the 'u have to be skinny & rich to be fashionable' myth its not true but it is just harder because most of the examples and designs of clothes are built with skinny ppl in mind so the clothes won't look the same if ur not that bodytype which requires you to have to style everything from scratch. And with less money the cultivation of a wardrobe is much slower and restricted.
#pvv tenet is a underrated movie imo, many call it bad because they find it confusing or expected more from christopher nolan but it had me hooked from the start and enjoyed the majority of it
I think the Nike/Adidas thing depends on how prominent the branding is. It only feels bad if you're outfit leans into big swooshes and stripes. I wear nikelab acg cargos with y3 shoes and it doesn't feel off.. like you wouldn't even know the pants were Nike unless you knew what they were.
personally, i do not care about mixing nike and adidas; i think it's been so frowned upon by the masses for so long... but i think done tastefully with an adidas trackpant and a low key nike shoe i don't mind it. i look at fashion more for the creative expression than brand mixing
Underrated for style is easily Serpico with Pachino but overall I never hear anyone talking about Spirit ( the animated horse movie) and it was a staple of my childhood #pvv
Totally in with the adidas/nike mixing, my only exception is when going to workout where if you happen to have Nike trainers and an adidas short I don’t give a f*ck
Drew I love your content, we have so many ideas in common and I always do learn from you. I love your open mind to everything as it’s so refreshing and you’re so poised when you speak. Very nice to see such a good creator, one thats so put into the fashion industry.
As a big boi who loves fashion, you definitely don’t need to be skinny to be fashionable. That being said, it definitely takes more effort to find the designers and brands that make clothing that fits you well. You need to know your measurements and do some research, but it’s worth the effort! I’m very happy where I am now
PVV: Beginners from 2010 is amazing. Its about a guy who finds out his dad is gay after his mom dies. My favorite part is that they subtitle what the dog says to Ewan McGregor's character. Its amazing definitely a must watch if you're a lover of movies.
I ONLY wear white socks with my loafers and Dr Martin Mules. I’m a white sock girly, I wear white socks with literally every outfit I wear. It’s kinda my signature. I’ve tried to wear both styles with black socks, but I don’t like the look as much lol. I’ve had a few ppl in my life say they could never do that lol.
for mixing metals, i do think that a good place for the wary to start might be cooler-toned lower karat gold and or/sterling silver in particular, because the hard chrome of steel next to the bright yellow gold of a plated or yellow-toned karat piece can be more difficult to get used to, as opposed to having something already a bit closer together
loafers with socks is a bold stylish choice that you can make not everyone can pull it off or have the confidence to pull it off i think white socks gives contrast to showcase the dressy-ness of loafers makes the outfit a little smart or elevated and you can color match anything, its just on which item is which color and the shade of the color is a big factor too
I mix my metals all the time. I even include other types of metals like brass and copper. They add so much character to your jewelry combos and make the entire outfit way more interesting. I always get compliments so I never saw it as a problem
So Im a petite male and I literally have the proportions of a woman (5'6" 130 lbs). I used to think my only option for clothes that fit me would be the kids section. My bf introduced me to women's wear as an option for clothes and I now shop almost exclusively women's clothes. I've never gotten more compliments on my outfits before and they fit me beautifully and my confidence has increased dramatically. Please do not allow yourself to be caged by societal norms and expectations ❤😊
I love mixing brown with black, especially darker browns. and one of my favorite underrated movies are: Nausikaä of the Valley of the Wind and The Fox and the Child
#pvv I really am a movie enthusiast, so after your question, a dozen different answers popped up in my mind. However, in my opinion, perhaps the most underrated film is 'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' (2015). It's a very touching, witty, and kind romantic comedy. There are not enough movies like this in today's cinema. I definitely recommend watching this movie - it's worth every second spent. With love from Ukraine, I hope everything is going well for you.
Hi Drew, I really appreciate how your encourages everyone have the gender mixed fashion! But like me I am from Hong Kong a so-called “international” city, while I want try any men’s fashion in store I will be 100% reminded from the staff “Um this is a men’s”. Honestly to me I’m still surprised that this concept? isn’t promoted by the whole fashion industry (at least this point seems not included in their brand guidelines). Yes I am so happy to hear this from a UA-cam channel about fashion and not just telling us what to buy in the coming season.
I think you can make Nike and Adidas work together in an outfit if you can balance them accordingly. One has to be more subtle than the other. Pick an article of clothing with one bold logo (trefoil, performance, swoosh) and then the other clothes that are the other brand should show their logo as minimally as possible. The silhouettes can still mix well when styled correctly.
I tell many of my customers to only bother matching leathers in formalwear. Outside of formalwear it is irrelevant so they shouldn't stress about it. As for brown and black, again I only value that idea in formalwear, same with navy and black because in formalwear brown looks better with navy as to me, it is reminiscent of where the ocean meets the sand. In general, if any two colours occur beside eachother in nature, they can occur beside eachother in clothing.
You objectify yourself as a mouthpiece for the brand when you dress out of respect for their arbitrary rivalry. If you really cared, you would only own one of the brands.
I think, similar to Drew’s point about belts and shoes matching, not matching black with certain colours is an idea that originates with men’s tailoring. It’s considered a big no no to switch out intended co-ords in these colours to make new combos. I.e if you have a black suit and a navy suit, switching out the black jacket for a navy jacket traditionally is blasphemy. This idea that was always geared purely towards suiting has just trickled into menswear in general.
“A big misconception that people think is that celebs dress well because they have money. No they dress well because they have a whole team with personal professional stylists” So money?
For those that are short, I’ve found that with pretty much all people, investing in a good pair of boots (with some type of heel) and pants that fall the right way over these boots will add perceptive length to your legs. If the pants hover too high off the boots, it’ll have the reverse effect. And they don’t have to be “wide leg” either. Find a pair of pants and tailor them - can be flared, straight relaxed, wide.
I'm looking into fashion as a potential career, I know that's quite broad but, it took me a long time to come to this conclusion and I'm still figuring it out. Do you have any advice on building a portfolio, I am very much just dipping my toes into fashion as a whole, I cant even draw well but, I do have a passion for it.
Idk I still don't really like white socks with loafers. Imo loafers will always look better with a dress sock. Also I think navy and black rule is more for suits and classic styles. I think wearing a navy blazer with a black slack or vice versa would be a little odd, but I could have my mind changed if I saw it done correctly.
the myth that dressing for your body is not important. I see so many times "just wear what you love, who cares what others think". While in essence I agree, it's not carte blanche to completely go against your body type and shape and wear a body con dress or a minimalist A shape maxi tunic. And I blame Yasslighting for this. Objectively something either looks flattering or it doesn't. It has nothing to do with being thin or fat.
one of my personal rules is to always wear two of the three colors in an outfit: navy, black, and grey. i just love the way navy and black look together and create a nice dark cool toned outfit
Matching leathers with belts, shoes, watch straps and purses makes your outfit less busy and more thoughtful imo. The same with metals to a way smaller extent.
#PVV #PBB ?? Was watching it on my TV but have to comment. Rango was so FYEEEE you just awakened nostalgia inside meee. And I literally watched Saltburn yesterday. It was so okay and that “bathroom” scene genuinely made me feel sick. The ending was a huge Ooooh. But apart from that it is a solid 8/10z It did its job well enough, and with the ending everything kinda got knitted together as 10/10. But the show overall would’ve been better if it was a TV show of 3-6 or so episodes
Being trendy and being stylish is totally different, it's more about the knowledge of fashion. Trendy can be a "dead inside" trap and you'll never find wht's fit you the most. Stylish is knowing everything about your own style, your bodyshape, your likes and dislikes with some touch of trendiness. Mistermort is a good example of that point
I'm a short guy who is muscular/athletic. Women's large in shirts fits me WAY better than a men's small, extra small, or medium. it's all in the silhouette you're looking to achieve...don't let the target gender or demographic of a piece keep you from rocking it
Want to dress well for very little?. . Go to your local op-shop (preferably in a wealthy area). Probably 3/4 of my wardrobe is from there. I'm talking labels... I don't bring crap home. I've found Italian leather coats, an Alaìa dress, and just recently, I scored a pair of Jean-Michel Basquiat Converse, (new) for $15 AU!
Nothing wrong with mixing Nike & Adidas. I see no reason why it would be any different to mixing another brand. It's not like you're mixing formalwear with sportswear or anything. Are Reeboks allowed to be mixed with these brands? What about New Balance? Where does it end? To me, drawing lines like this is just buying into the cult of the brand, and feels too much like simping for capitalism.
I'd have to disagree with your point on "celebrities dressing well not because they have money but because they have an entire stylist team around them". Celebrities can afford to have a stylist team who are responsible of creating well coordinated outfits for them because they have the money to pay them. Hence, money can still be a factor for the celebrities dressing well. Though, it is still important to note that there are some celebrities who dress according to what they like without the help of stylists and look great at the same time.
I do have 2 pair of nike, but most of them are adidas and i do own a nike jacket for winter so i do mix them a lot. It helps that its all blaxk even the logos
A you tuber i used to follow was of the strong belief that shorter men shouldnt wear belts that show as they make a shorter person look even shorter as it cuts the proportions in half and expose lack of body length or something like that. I sent in my comment to the contrary and i think my comment got brushed off.

Yes I am so happy to hear this from a UA-cam channel about fashion and not just telling us what to buy in the coming season.
good job Drew always an inspiration for me and my videos! so interesting😃
I watched this movie called “Bones an All” and it ruled. It’s like a really heart warming love story but with a bunch of body horror? So fire
I would like to see a part 2 on this series. This was fun to watch.
I love my adidas shoes, pants, and jackets. But I would never wear all three at once, that feels too much like simping for a corporation
But if it is cohesive, you have an alignment that is simple and yet cannot be beaten. It is not something to do if it all mismatches
Needed the Charles Barkley audio to accompany the Kyle Kuzma and Russell Westbrook clips 😂
As far as the matching Nike with Adidas rule, I agree but I often wonder if this rule applies only to these two brands or any two rival brands 🤔
To me, I don't mix any big athletic brand that also makes sneakers. Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok, Under Armour, New Balance.
You objectify yourself as a mouthpiece for the brand when you dress out of respect for their arbitrary rivalry. If you really cared, you would only own one of the brands.
But you didn't give a genuine, well-thought out reason why Nikes and Adidas can't be mixed.
Pvv: the movied wolfwalkers or Gagarine are amazing and are so underrated in my opinion!
Bravo - nice examples.💫
Underrated movie: Pandorum.
seeing the Starlinc tribute, love his content ❤️
i wish his video got more likes drew is such a good fashion influencer and a youtuber and this video for sure desreves more than 2k likes
“A big misconception that people think is that celebs dress well because they have money. No they dress well because they have a whole team with personal professional stylists”
So money?
they're not just buying what's expensive, that's the point, anyone can learn to style themselves, outsourcing to a team of stylists is unnecessary
@@tal4466I get his point lmao. Im just being a dickhead. He worded it a bit weird.
Not being able to mix Adidas and Nike... seriously??? What childishness, IT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL
Could you please recommend a fashion channel that is specifically focused on non-hegemonic body types?
Matching leathers with belts, shoes, watch straps and purses makes your outfit less busy and more thoughtful imo. The same with metals to a way smaller extent.
Does anyone know what brand the brown bootcut pants at 12:22 are from? Thanks in advance.
But apart from that it is a solid 8/10z
It did its job well enough, and with the ending everything kinda got knitted together as 10/10.
But the show overall would’ve been better if it was a TV show of 3-6 or so episodes
I feel like a fantastic Mr Fox is a Hella underated film. It's similar to Rango in the sense that it's animated but still Hella deep.
back when i still wore sportswear i would say mixing em up is a must! but if i ever wore sportswear again if sure as shit 100% would not wear Nike.
2:45 please someone tell me what the brand is the red dress looks amazing
Who let Drew cook?😂 Fire Vid
Being trendy and being stylish is totally different, it's more about the knowledge of fashion.
Trendy can be a "dead inside" trap and you'll never find wht's fit you the most. Stylish is knowing everything about your own style, your bodyshape, your likes and dislikes with some touch of trendiness. Mistermort is a good example of that point
I'm a short guy who is muscular/athletic. Women's large in shirts fits me WAY better than a men's small, extra small, or medium. it's all in the silhouette you're looking to achieve...don't let the target gender or demographic of a piece keep you from rocking it
10:51 isnt this the same thing as wearing nike and adidas?
Want to dress well for very little?. . Go to your local op-shop (preferably in a wealthy area). Probably 3/4 of my wardrobe is from there. I'm talking labels... I don't bring crap home. I've found Italian leather coats, an Alaìa dress, and just recently, I scored a pair of Jean-Michel Basquiat Converse, (new) for $15 AU!
Oh, and if you're wearing dark pants, wear dark socks.. but not with shorts.
Though, it is still important to note that there are some celebrities who dress according to what they like without the help of stylists and look great at the same time.
the only fashion rule i follow, NEVER mix adidas/reebok/nike/any other sports brand with each other
In the next year comfort shoes will become the standard.
Brown looks good with everything 🤎
I’m on a new kick for this one 11:34. Fuck belts. suspenders, or braces. Preferably button braces.
Instead of saying “my name is drew, what it do, it’s nice to meet’chu” what do you think about simply “my name is drew joiner, thank you for joining”?
#pvp love the new outro word, spitting BARS! underrated for sure is Grandma's Boy.
I do have 2 pair of nike, but most of them are adidas and i do own a nike jacket for winter so i do mix them a lot. It helps that its all blaxk even the logos
There is so much throwing away of clothes. That's the biggest myth of this video for sure.
I agree…just wear plain white socks but don’t wear them together. Especially just doing them to get attention or clout…don’t.
5:44 I personally don't condone wearing Adidas at all tbh
Let's go you used my suggestion for the 2024 outro ❤️🔥 I'm sure other people said it too but you hearted my comment lol
PVV: deep cover. It’s great!
I don't get the Nike-Adidas conversation. Is it it a joke or something? If he's serious, wtf?
#pvv my underrated movie picks would be: Waves (2019), Donnie Darko, and Project X!
been here since the waffle one shoe waaaay back, but keep on the grind no matter what Drew thank you for the content that you provide, bless
A Japanese gelato company I know makes an amazing soy sauce based gelato…just saying.
Pvv: Treasure Planet mad underrated
well im definitely trying this
A you tuber i used to follow was of the strong belief that shorter men shouldnt wear belts that show as they make a shorter person look even shorter as it cuts the proportions in half and expose lack of body length or something like that. I sent in my comment to the contrary and i think my comment got brushed off.
Growing up in a single parent household….5 hit different
#pvv "The Gentleman" is underated both the story and the outfits are just magnificent
