I literally had no idea that those external hard drives are just internal hard drives with their own adapter & casing. It didn’t even cost me the $15 because I already had one of those 2.5” adapters. Thank you so much for posting this!
Than you - this is super helpful. I'm so glad I found your video instead of getting ripped off by repair shop. This is so simple but you don't know what you don't know.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I followed your directions and went to work on a three-year old G-Drive with a damaged port. It took me ten minutes tops, all of my data was recovered (including invaluable family pictures), and the drive is still usable. A local company in Pittsburgh was more than willing to charge me between $400-$1600 for helping me out. Your video, plus a new external casing (plus cables) I got on ebay for $25 (yes, I know, probably paid $10 too much) did the trick. Again, thank you. Seriously.
Huge help!!! Thanks a million. After watching a million youtube videos during my life, this is the first time I've actually commented. That's how helpful this video was. Thought I had lost a drive with 10 years worth of family pictures.... both kids being born, birthday parties, my wedding. I was determined to save these pictures and your video helped me tremendously. Thanks again!
Excellent!!! Thank you so much! As mentioned elsewhere, stores in my area were asking $300+ ! Going to store to get my adapter right now. I'll post my own results shortly...
You are a life-saver! I watched your video over and over just to make sure that I'm following your instructions correctly and it works! Thank you so much xo
Thank you so much. You're a saviour. The place I went to were charging $400 for fixing this. Just ordered a $15 adapter case from amazon and it should be here in two days. fingers crossed.
Thank you so much! My sea gate wouldn’t turn on and I was about to give Best Buy $250 to recover data, but I ordered an $18 hard disk docking station and it worked in 10 minutes. First UA-cam video I have commented on.
the video did help. I'm grateful! Almost skipped it though, simply because you mentioned another brand name than mine for the drive. Maybe it would help to keep that in mind for your future (or past) clips titles, where the fix is actually universal. Keep up the good work, man!
Excellent. My Seagate connector broke right off. When you open it up, you can see how flimsy and destined to fail that spot is. Hitting Micro Center today to save hundreds.
Awesome video! A++ I bought a Seagate drive a year or so ago, but never got around to using it. I just opened the package and was dismayed by the crappy connector which already acts like it will fall apart constantly in use. It's too late to return the device so was about to grab the hot glue gun and try to beef up the connector by gluing it into the case😜 Instead, I'm just going to order the 2.5" SATA enclosure NOW and not have to worry about using the craptastic cable adapter at all. Thanks again! Subscribed.👍 P.S.: I already replaced the battery in my 15" MacBook Pro using a guitar string and a helper (saw the "fishing line" trick on another youtube video but didn't have any) and it worked! - I'm typin on it now) so this looks like a piece of cake. But it's always *great* to see what's inside before you tear into it!😃
Great video! My connection came out when I unplugged the cable from the hard drive, now I cant connect my seagate hard drive. Would this fix be the right thing for me in this situation?
you are the man. where are you based? i am in Sydney Australia. note: You would probably get more people to help if you added "easy fix for about $15" in the main title. Blessings.
Hi how did were u able to access files from the drive? i did this because the usb connector broke, so once i disassembled and connected to Sata USB cable, my machine asked for initialization.
Thanks for this video. I have a question. A company has quoted me between $2,000 - $4,500 to recover the data. I have a Seagate Fast HDD Portable Drive Model # SRD00M1. I can't find this product in my country any longer. It has a dual hard drive. I can't find an enclosure that is compatible for 2 hard drives. What do you recommend I do? Can I get two enclosures? Would that work? Any help would be appreciated.
Can you tell me where to get the box you are testing the drive with? Are there different kinds you have to have for different external drives? I have a 2.5 inch drive and a seagate backup plus hub drive.
So I followed all the steps, only thing is when I connect the hard drive with the SATA adapter to my computer, its not coming up. Is it a problem with the hard drive it self?
I tried your suggestion. I have a seagate external hard drive with a broken USB connector. I bought a new 2.5 inch enclosure case, but it now keeps beeping and is not recognized by my Mac book. Do you think the new enclosure is defective or just not compatible with the seagate? Appreciate your response
The above video is intended for those cases when the USB connector of the original enclosure is broken or defective, or the small controller board is malfunctioning. In your case, the hard drive is failed, and you'd need to take it to a repair shop or data recovery center to have the data saved.
If it's about 2/3 of your palm is the 2.5 inch, if it's bigger or same size as your palm, it's the 3.5 inch and for that you'd need a different type of connector than the one shown in the video.
As long as it's a 2.5 inch drive( all the portable external drives will have this hdd inside ) it will work. For larger drives you'd need a different type of adapter.
My hard drive just recently stop working but I didn't get the warranty because I knew that if I spent more than $100 on something that would seem stupid to my mom who doesn't really know much about technology she would kill me and I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it what would beeping or like buzzing sounds mean
A buzzing sound coming from inside of the drive is never a good sign, it means the drive has internal damage to the actuator arm or heads, so in that case, I'd highly recommend you to take it to a data recovery shop
So it means that the drive is bad and you need a data recovery. The process shown in the video is for drives that have the port broken up, this is in no way a recovery type of process.
PLEASE HELP ASAP!!!!!!!! I FEEL SO SICK TO MY STOMACH!! MY CONNECTER BROKE OFF LIKE THIS AND MY LAPTOP WONT READ IT NOW. I HAVE THOUSANDS OF PHOTOS OF MY KIDS WHEN THEY WERE BABIES ON THERE. MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE IS A NEXSTAR TX ONE ... PLEASE HELP ME GET THESE PHOTOS OFF. :(

That is exactly why i am here
Excellent!!! Thank you so much! As mentioned elsewhere, stores in my area were asking $300+ ! Going to store to get my adapter right now. I'll post my own results shortly...
Did it work

Update: Ordered wavlink adapter. Working smoothly. Absolutely stoked.

is that what the "tool" he is using called? Hard disk docking station? trying to google what to order to save mine!
can you give more description of the docking stations, please

Dude this was a massive help 2 of my hard drives connectors broke and I thought data was lost. I bought a SABRENT enclosure from Amazon.
can you provide more details of the Sabrent you bought.
Great, your video saved me a lot of problems!!!!! As it made me possible to recuperate my personal data!!!
Thank you. Great video. The store in my area was charging something like $150 for this.
Ffantastig! I ordered a £15 replacement and fixed it 5 minutes. Diolch! Thanks!
Glad it helped
This video certainly helped me save a friends drive. Thanks!
Excellent. My Seagate connector broke right off. When you open it up, you can see how flimsy and destined to fail that spot is. Hitting Micro Center today to save hundreds.
Thank you for helping me! My device is now working!

Thankyou so much! I gad a seagate where the connector prongs disconnected completely I thought I was gonna have to buy a whole new hard drive.
Thank you! That was a huge help! You saved my external drive.
Thank you great video and saved my terrific situation.
Great video! My connection came out when I unplugged the cable from the hard drive, now I cant connect my seagate hard drive. Would this fix be the right thing for me in this situation?
as long as the internal drive is a 2.5" drive, then yes, that should work for you
Comptechnyc is there a way to know that before opening it up?
HOLY COW!!! I cannot thank you enough~ 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
you are the man. where are you based? i am in Sydney Australia. note: You would probably get more people to help if you added "easy fix for about $15" in the main title. Blessings.
SOOOOO Helpful!!! thank youu
This is amazing advice thank you so much.
Thank you so much for this video, life saver!
can you link the one you used because I have a seagate 1tb that wont work. I would love the exact one.
I was hoping for a link as well!
Hi will this work if i have plugged the wrong power adapter in with higher voltage or is this just if its a bad port for the cable
Thanks
Thanks for the help!!! :)
a very informative video!
Hi the port on my similar drive has completely come off could I possibly solder it back on?
What type of docking device is needed. I heard you say 2.5 enclosure, but can you be more detailed.
Amazon ➡️ 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure and take your pick
Hi how did were u able to access files from the drive? i did this because the usb connector broke, so once i disassembled and connected to Sata USB cable, my machine asked for initialization.
Thank you. Спасибо
Thank you!!
Bro please inform what is the name of the adapter ... And provide any link plz i want to buy
Hi, what if my hard drive still doesn't show up on my computer after doing these steps please? Thanks
Thanks for this video. I have a question. A company has quoted me between $2,000 - $4,500 to recover the data. I have a Seagate Fast HDD Portable Drive Model # SRD00M1. Can you tell me where to get the box you are testing the drive with? Are there different kinds you have to have for different external drives? I have a 2.5 inch drive and a seagate backup plus hub drive.
Amazon, look for a 2.5 external hard drive enclosure
So I followed all the steps, only thing is when I connect the hard drive with the SATA adapter to my computer, its not coming up. Is it a problem with the hard drive it self?
I have a 5tb seagate hard drive plus that has a bad connection to the hard drive. How can I determine if this will work for this model (srd00f2)?
I tried your suggestion. I have a seagate external hard drive with a broken USB connector. I bought a new 2.5 inch enclosure case, but it now keeps beeping and is not recognized by my Mac book. Do you think the new enclosure is defective or just not compatible with the seagate? Appreciate your response
The above video is intended for those cases when the USB connector of the original enclosure is broken or defective, or the small controller board is malfunctioning. In your case, the hard drive is failed, and you'd need to take it to a repair shop or data recovery center to have the data saved.
What watch are you wearing?
How much did you pay for that hard disk connection stand ?
wow thank you for this video!!! just not sure how to find out what size of seagate hard drive i got
If it's about 2/3 of your palm is the 2.5 inch, if it's bigger or same size as your palm, it's the 3.5 inch and for that you'd need a different type of connector than the one shown in the video.
i got a problem i broke the sata connector of a acteck drive eclosure that belongs to my brother ¿is there any way to fix it?
sir is it possible to repair or replace that connector and use normally for future?
It's possible to fix it, yes, but it's cheaper to just buy another enclosure for the drive ( about $10 on Amazon) and keep using it.
Will this work with a Verbatim external hard drive too?
As long as it's a 2.5 inch drive( all the portable external drives will have this hdd inside ) it will work. For larger drives you'd need a different type of adapter.
Hi..i broke my usb port.only. where i can buy new spare..
Genius
My hard drive just recently stop working but I didn't get the warranty because I knew that if I spent more than $100 on something that would seem stupid to my mom who doesn't really know much about technology she would kill me and I am trying to figure out what is wrong with it what would beeping or like buzzing sounds mean

@@comptechnyc ok I check to see if I can find one near me

i wait and wait nothing appears on my homescreen when i put in drive into external i wait way longer then a second or two nothing shows up
So it means that the drive is bad and you need a data recovery. The process shown in the video is for drives that have the port broken up, this is in no way a recovery type of process.
What is the thing you used to connect the hard drive to your computer?
It's called SATA to USB adapter- you can find it on Amazon, or brick and mortar store specializing in selling computer parts
can the hard drive reader be used on an xbox?
