Hope you liked my rant after the simple repair. This channel is about information rather than only just quick solutions...from a tech shop to you =)

What a lifesaver, I thought I had lost unreplaceable wedding and family videos. My connection was damaged, but it wouldn't pop up on my computer. I took off the adapter and slapped into external case I had lying around and it popped right up. Thanks for the video and thanks to seagate for not soldering to a board. Seagate for life.

Great video! I've got a seagate drive and the connection looks fine. I took it into the local computer shop and they said I would have to pay a data recovery firm to try and pull the information of it . They said it didn't "post" on their machine. Given all this, is there another way to get the information of a seagate drive? The cost of data recovery is around $1000. thanks.

For that one other person out there who has an old Fantom external drive that came with an eSATA port and eSATA cable - if it fails, try the usb-b port that is on the drive if it has one; it's shaped like a square. Buy a cable with usb-a on the other end since the eSATA connector on your computer may be bad. I didn't even know it was a type of usb port. Luckily, my old Canon printer came with one of those cable so I just plugged it in and it worked.

I did that to my Seagate, LOVE IT and I'll only buy those from now on...I HAVE THAT TOSHIBA DRIVE THOUGH! It GOES ON, SPINS, but not recognized...should I just replace the plug in piece a.k.a. solder in a new one?!?! Do you have a video fixing it!!! I've been trying to figure it out for 5yrs.

Thx for your instructions! But my Problem is different. My external Hard Drive fell to the ground several times and now when I plug in the Hard Drive, it becomes weird noises and the PC doesn't recognize my external Hard Drive anymore. Is it now totally broken or not?

If you dropped it chances are nil to fix. The platters get scratched and the heads ruined.

I ripped out a 2TB drive form the older seagate external drive. put it into a USB drive adpater. but cpmputer managemnt wants to format the disk. the 3 partitions 1 raw, and 2 UN-allocated. this seems strange when it was working, buit the external connected died and was all working before that. it's an older usb-2 , btu was workign before the older usb-2 plug would not connect in anymore.

How ensures is this method? Is there any risk of lost data by doing this? I have so many near and dear to my heart files, and all of a sudden my laptop doesn’t find it… the plug in sound and the light turns on but I can’t find it in anywhere not even in Disk Management… what should I do my brother?

I have a question. If you, or anyone else here can help, please! Now, I have a Seagate Drive which I purchased from Costco. My computer (and others, I tried it on others thought it was just my computer) recognizes it fine, all the time, all files pop up (ironically, the small light on it ironically does not appear). HOWEVER, I cannot access the files, and each time I get the option for "scanning and repairing", it is never able to do so. I do not think my files are encrypted, but do any of you know what might be going on? If anyone can help, I would be eternally grateful. I thankfully have many backup files on a small USB, but I have many other files on the seagate (that I have been working so hard on) that I need to backup onto another seagate that was purchased for me.

Do you know what the problem is if the hard drive is taking forever to transfer or reading a file? It took several hours before my Mac was able to registered the hd. Now I’m trying to transfer all the data onto my desktop and it’s taken days and it’s still on “preparing files for download”

I just moved most of my data of 25+ years last night to a Seagate SRD00F1. I left it on over night. When I plugged it in this morning, windows sees the drive, but it is not accessible. Do you think this trick may work if I open it and move it to a caddy?

Please, please do not set that hard drive from which you removed the broken connector off to the right where the port cannot be seen. One would need to see the port configuration of the hard drive which is plugged into your "sled" Please spend a few seconds to show the ports you are connecting. You took too much time showing the broken USB port and the connector. Show the sled port and the hard drive port being connected at good close-up. Otherwise this demo is not ultimately useful. Thanks for the leads in any case..
