I was just about to paint a bathroom for the first time and I said let me just see what jeffs been up to...and Voilah! Always good to see jeff working.
A trick I learned from a professional painter was to dim the lights or darken the room and use a work light shined at an angle on the drywall surface...it highlights all the imperfections to make identifying areas that need more sanding easier and if you can't see it that way, you won't see it.
in larger spaces that works great. It is called a Prime Check. in a small room with no variation in lighting it is just easier to leave the lights on and do a first coat of paint. Cheers!
*I always paint the top of the door frame... easy to wipe/dust the crap that gathers up there. Sure no one sees up there... but if left unpainted, it is harder to remove the dust/crap. Plus I also use oil-base paint on door frames and window frames... lasts longer with the knocks the frames gets.🙂.*
@@CopingwithGrattitude *So true. If you do a job then you do it properly. 🙂For someone showing the world how to paint... he explains about the sides of the door frame.... yet it would actually take less than a minute to do the top of the Door/window frames to finish off the job properly, is all it would take.*
I appreciate you not editing the leak out, showing the problem and side stepping to fix it is very helpful, much better than the guys who edit that stuff out trying to pretend perfection
did you forget to sand between coats? bad Jeff much love, I’ve done a lot of upgrades in my home with the help of your videos. you’re helping so many people.. God bless you
Unfortunately it seems like that step landed on the editing room floor this time. My apologies. don't lay out the plastic sheets for me over this. Cheers!
It all depends on which version or line of paint you use. I find the professional companies have too much variation so the brand name suffers when folks have a bad experience with a commercial product when they should be using a more professional residential product.
Just stumbled on your channel and had to subscribe your master of craft amd taught me thing no one else would teach me i learned everything on my own and just watching upped my knowledge alot, i just did a restroom and this would of helped tons but i still think i did pretty good for how bad it was.
I'e been watching you for quite a while now for 3 good reasons. 1. You do a fantastic job explaining everything without a bunch of useless talking. 2. You know your stuff, and your videos prove that. 3. You're Canadian, and all the products you use are available here in Canada. Now, it seems like you are moving away from number 3 and becoming Americanized. I get you are in Florida filming this, but why mention Canda if the products aren't available here. Hope you come back home and continue with Canadian content with products we can purchase here at our local big orange box stores.
Whats so funny about this video is that i just got done with my paint job 1 hour ago. I could have used this video yesterday make my paint job go faster! Btw because of you I picked up painting peoples houses, so thank you sir. Learned so much from you. Oh! One more thing, can you make a paint tier list? I want to know from your experience what the best paint is. Im biased to behr because I supervise the paint department. I dont know what im missing, HELP!
Benjamin Moore Ben for lowest cost lowest performance but great application and no VOC. Sherwin Williams Emerald for best performance. C2 for best finish. Cheers! Behr for 1 coat coverage.
question.. before you put the door trim on the wall wouldnt it be easier to just paint it fully on the floor and then nail it to the wall. fill in the nail hole and paint that spot then to cut the paint in with it already installed. whats your thoughts on this ?
Hi!! I love your videos it’s very helpful! But I am renovating my bathroom in the basement and I have two small questions; currently we have a drain in the center of the room plus a drain in the shower, is it necessary to keep this drain or can we level the floor without a drain in the center? Because currently the floor converges towards the drain and we would like to re-tile the floor. Which brings me to my second question what do you think of tile on tile on the floor?
hello! this came at the perfect time as me and my husband are renovating our flat soon, can i just check that when you sand between each layer that it’s okay to leave the dust and paint on top with *any* paint? we want to use the brand Lick and not sure if it’s made differently as we’re in the UK - thanks!
sure, the sanded dust actually is so fine we leave it. it then gets licked up by the next coat and becomes part of the solids in that layer of paint and helps with better coverage. no worries. just sand and go. Cheers!
Hey Jeff, informative video. I have to repaint a bathroom ceiling that the paint is flaking off of, is that the same process? Do I need to figure out why it was flaking?
I had that happen in my bathroom. I peeled off the loose bits, washed it with TSP to remove all residues, skim coated the divots, and then made sure to use a bathroom primer and paint. I had originally used Delux's flat white which they assured me would be fine. It was not. Couldn't handle the moisture, especially the ceiling over the shower.
What about repainting a bathroom. What primer? Killz 2? I also have some drywall ceiling screws that popped through on ceiling drywall that need patched. Love your content.
When u were cutting that corner u had this calm bob ross vibe going on lol I was waiting for u to show us how to paint a happy tree next ! Haha love it videos brother God Bless
So I removed my popcorn ceiling. We painted it with "ceiling paint flat behr". I thought it had premier in it. It does not. So we got one coat on OK. But the second coat it is flaking and bubbling in a couple spots. What should I do? Do I need to sand and come back with a premier on the whole ceiling? Or can I repair those areas? I fear in time the whole ceiling will peal and crack.
Hi Jeff, I have a question about the tile in a shower. The installers grouted the tile at the bottom and there is mildew growing. I am going to take the grout out and silicon it. What type of silicon should I use? I think I saw a video that you said you do not grout the bottom where it meets the floor.
I like Behr paint. I hate CIL, its too watery. First time and last time I used it put on 5 coats of orange on top a light yellow to get the colour we wanted.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I have a same problem in Europe there is no angeled brushes. Also EVERY SINGLE BRUSH for wall painting has really hard brushes that you can see every brush stroke 😑😑
Honestly you can start anywhere, ask yourself what aspects you find interesting and what things you desperately dislike. Why do you want to get into the trades? For example, maybe you like working with timber, you could go into carpentry or cabinetry, alternatively you might prefer plaster, so then drywall install might be your preference. You have to know what you want out from this though and *be prepared to be talked down too until you've finished your apprenticeship* - If you struggle to do what you're told without context and operate in sometimes less than friendly situations, you'll likely hate it
that all depends on how much responsibility you have towards other people and how long you can afford to wait until you get a good paycheck. electrician and plumbers take 2 years to get a real check where painting can be learned on the job while getting a paycheck.
@HomeRenoVisionDIY thank you Jeff im currently working as a cleaner and my income has me terrified about the future I was thinking hvac but due to my age I don't know of its even doable
Never thought I'll see someone else with an issue as mine, lol. I come to the conclusion that the person I bought my house from had all the room painted with the cheapest paint they could possibly find. Maybe some cheap discount big lots paint. It would literally sweat what looks like glue after the first few hot showers we took. I finally got around to having it repainted with good quality paint and no more issues.

so the age of the home determines the primer. oil vs latex. so does the repair system. Cheers1

Should I use clear or they have the caulking with grout in it that they also used on the sides however that is what is getting mildew on.
Is there a reason you do not put any knockdown texture on the drywall before you paint. Here in Texas or the western US all houses have knockdown.
Canadian Tire has decent paint trays out east
Ha ha I thought that said “Giardia”. Old lab tech here.😂
How can someone get a paint chip analyzed for lead, before sanding an old wall?
How did the place fair with the hurricane we had here?

Why would paint peel off mud? I primed new drywall but the final coat in some spots just peeled off when water got splashed on it.
Your mud might not have been completely dry yet.
Why didn’t you dust the wall off after sanded before applying the primer ?
The dust is so fine that it just gets absorbed into the paint.
Dollar store sells those plastic paint trays, they’re cheaper and better quality.
