Racing my First Marathon in Amsterdam! 26.2 Miles of Bliss and Incredible Pain!

- The Amsterdam Marathon is in the books. I had a blast, I really did have a blast, especially the first 20 miles before the wheels came off a little bit. The Amsterdam Marathon course is known for how flat it is, and usually good weather, which was the case today in the 44th edition of the marathon. The Amsterdam Marathon was a HUGE learning moment for me, as this was my first road marathon, much different than what I'm used to racing out on the trails and mountains of Colorado. I will walk away with many great memories and lessons from this journey in the Amsterdam marathon 2019, and look forward to the next challenge, which just over the horizon.

Seth changed clothes, got a massage, drank a beer, ate two sandwiches, and took two time lapses, all in the amount of time it took normal people just to finish.
Gotta get Seth to race Chicago!
bub tub It wasn’t for a lack of trying on my part
kofuzi still time for Philly!!!
He could have ran another half marathon after and still beat the 4 hour folks like me..lol
Qqq
knowing seth committed to going back and forth for those shots at the end (i.e. going up the stairs and then going back down to pick up the camera) post marathon is the type of extra effort that i appreciate and love from his channel :)
Jason Tran I was thinking the same! What a legend
Haha, yeah :D .. also outside, imagine someone stealing the camera and Seth is there with marathon legs and a backpack :D
Those stairs must have been brutal
There was a live stream of the Amsterdam marathon on UA-cam and 95% of the chat was Seth's subscribers 😂😂 Seth, we love you and are so proud of you!!
Think Seth gained quite a few subs from the "who's Seth?" chatters too. 👍
98.3%!!! 😂😂😂
We were going ham in that chat Seth..lol
Seriously, he's such a positive guy. Seth for President!!
Who's Seth?
He ran 2:23:37! And finished 32nd. That is amazing.
For a committed man there is no failure just lessons learned
Still 3 month to qualify
Very well said, one of the best comments I've read in a while.
I love your comment and this will be my motto going forward. Thank you for sharing. I quoted you on my Strava 😁👍🏾
I’m not crying ... you are!! That vlog music, coupled with a UA-cam family members yelling “rhythm!! Rhythm !!” Oh man! Just such an awesome journey so far Seth. Can’t wait to see what you do next mate. Safe travels home to true love 💕 you rock Seth! 👍🏻🇦🇺
Sharon Lightfoot Ain’t gonna lie, I got a bit teary eyed there too
Same!!! You beautiful UA-cam family you always blow me away! Thanks for your constant love and support!
Yesterday I was about to go for a nice and easy long run. My plan was to run about 12k in 4:50 min/km pace. At 5 or 6 km I realised that I'm running 4:30 kilometers and I'm not tired at all. It was the best feeling of all time. I ran and ran and felt like nothing can stop me. I ended up running a half marathon distance in 1 hour and 36 minutes which is faster than my previous best.
I'm very motivated now! 😄
every now and then thats what happens...and if it happens what you did was the right thing...if you feel good just make the best of it...and on other days if you feel terrible dont force it
excellent running! What is your next race?
how is this a thing? First month of running an I just ran an 18k but at a 5:06 pace. an to call a 12k run nice an easy is pretty wicked.
@@PoetWithPace my next race is a sprint distance duathlon, this saturday! 😁
@@barnabaspeter277 oh wow! enjoy!
Your positive attitude is contagious and inspiring! Like always thank you for bringing us along your amazing journey! Can’t wait to celebrate your OTQ in the very near future!

Shows me what positive thinking and (very) hard work can achieve. I love your always positive attitude and of course your youtube channel. As you say: Seek Beauty, Work Hard, and Love Each Other

I was following you on the tracker as I was doing an 18 mile training run for my first 50 mile race coming up next month. Your blog has been so helpful preparing me for my race! When I saw your finish time I was crushed but your positive attitude regardless of the outcome is the reason why you inspire so many people.
Wow Seth! I had just had chills relieving my best racing moments while watching your video, looking forward to racing when it resumes!

I feel like crying watching your vlog! So much positive energy, high spirit and honesty. I was at Amsterdam marathon as well on Sunday. Such a pity that I didn't get to see you there. I ran 3.14. Really happy with the time but my legs are very sore now. I am riding my spinning bike while watching your vlog😃😃😃
Thank you Seth!!
Well done Seth... amazing effort.. amazing running community!! love it.
Congrats on battling through! Endure and enjoy the accomplishment.
Love the positivity and focus on learning.
You’re amazing! I appreciate your incredible attitude and how inspirational you are for people like me (a running grandma). On my long runs when I hit the wall, I remind myself: eyes up, pump arms, quick feet and it always helps! Thanks for sharing your running life with us. (This weekend’s long run was just 9 miles and it went surprisingly well.)
You can and should be proud of an amazing effort! Congratulations to you, and have a safe trip home!
Seth, really solid first marathon! 100% agree with others (and your own post race evaluation) regarding improved pacing next time around. You definitely have the ability to hit the standard. All the best with your recovery and next build up.
Man it was awesome to see your finishing time and just how amazing that accomplishment is! And then to see how calculated and spot on you were with your efforts! So much to be proud of man! I’ve really enjoyed watching and connecting with you through this journey and it has helped me find joy in running like I have never had before. Safe travels home buddy! So cool man! Great work!
Seth, congrats! Although you did not achieve the goal, your time was awesome! Be proud! Enjoy the great accomplishment! You are a great inspiration for all of us!
Really feel for you Seth, but this is the joy of the struggle. The challenge is still alive. So I ran my 16 mile long run yesterday and like you said - dedicated the run and the pain to you. It went well after my test day prior. You were in my thoughts yesterday, looking forward to hearing the lessons you’ve learned. Great time none the less, fantastic run!👍💪🏻 from UK
Congrats Seth. You are an inspiration my guy.
Note of appreciation for your work, as I prepare for my own race coming up. I'm so sorry that Amsterdam didn't work out the way you hoped! Thanks for sharing the journey.
Peace and love Seth. The disappointment shows in your eyes. Stay strong brother, you are stronger for the at race, and you will carry that forward with you to the next challenge. Just keep on keepin’ on. Inspirational stuff man😃👊👍👏👏👌
Seth congrats to finishing your first marathon, you were great and I am sure that you learned a lot and next time you will get it! Huge Congrats!!!
Nothing but absolute respect for you brother! That is mad-good finish time for most of us.
Way to go Seth; it’s all about learning and improving!
I am about to sign up for my 1st Marathon (Houston Marathon) and you are my inspiration for for it!
I ran my 7 mile long run yesterday!
Enjoy your first marathon Michelle!
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Well done.
Awesome!! Proud of you Seth 👍👍👍
Congrats Man! So proud!!!
It's amazing how you can shoot a quality video, which multiple perspectives and a story, before a big race. I'm always a wreck. I won't be able to hold anything steady. Onward and upward. Proud to be a subscriber. Respect.
Quite a skill.
On the plus side, it's still a great time for what happened. Many many marathoners wish they had a debut time like that one. You have for sure the fitness to qualify for the trials, you just went at it fearlessly and a road marathon kicks your butt if you try to go at it too fast.
Still, you gave it your all even when you couldn't, you're awesome and inspiring and I'll keep cheering as long as you keep giving it your best!
Congrats man!! Enjoyed following this journey with you
Seth, my man. Watching this and smiling uncontrollably. I know you suffered out there, but to see you remaining positive in spite of that suffering and missing your main goal is truly inspiring. Thank you for the positivity and all you do for our running community. Nothing but respect for your honesty and openness after the race. Onward, my friend!
You're a complete winner Seth-Thank You for you- Stay Humble.
great result...this was an awesome vlog. i felt like i was literally there. very impressive debut!
Congrats Seth👍👍👍
I had my collegiate pre conference race this weekend and ran sub 30 for the 2nd time ever for an 8K, this took place in Texas and our team placed 3rd overall which will qualify us for regionals if we perform the same in 2 weeks at the actual conference meet. I did not run my best due to having this past week off for injury treatment but we are working hard these next weeks! Congrats on your completion of your debut Seth! LeTourneau Cross country is cheering for you!
Hey Seth, you should be really proud!!! You have an enormous heart. Me and my family were cheering for you yesterday...and even had an yahooooo moment when you appeared on official broadcast. Keep dreaming and seeking beauty my friend. Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷🇧🇷.
Inspirational as always. What a fantastic first road marathon to have to your name
Been running a year and a half , first Marathon wad Chicago 2019 , I added 1.5 hours to it , learning so much about my body and strength training.
First marathon , so Special.
So fun to watch yours.
My first marathon was Amsterdam in 2017, magical experience and one i'll never forget. Brought back lots of lovely memories. Awesome effort Seth!
One Mile at a Time! Keep plugging away! Very Proud of You and your UA-cam Family!
Seth what a fab video. Got me buzzing for my marathon in Manchester in a few weeks even if I'm tired a lot and need a chaperone every time I pass by the kitchen.
Your enthusiasm is contagious man!
Seth you are the best. All this time when I was watching you been inspired me so much but after that what you just done I am over the
moon. Can't wait see more from you. Next time Poland don't forget.
Seth it’s been so great watching this last training block and buildup for Amsterdam, can’t wait to see what happens next
Congrats Seth! Awesome debut!
Well done great debut time. Tough distance and definitely takes a few attempts to put it all together. Looking forward to your next attempt :).
Awesome halfway time Seth, but there is still Houston. It's really flat too and I'm sure if you go out a little more conservative you'll be fine :) Great job anyways 2:23 is not a horrible time by any means and now you got your name out there and an official result on 26.2! Cheers!
Amazing effort I was watching it on UA-cam and I was so sleaze and surprised to see the amount of support you had on the live stream of the Amsterdam marathon Amazing
13:41 Ah stairs, a post marathon runners sworn enemy.
Great work, I have only been running 8 months and my half marathon pace is 2hr 17min. It just blows my mind that you completed a full marathon in the same time, has really inspired me to step up my training.
Seth, very proud of you my friend. Great job!
You are awesome no matter what, inspire by your running journey. I am a novice runner, started running 10 months ago, ran 1/2 marathon in Auckland NZ on Sunday in 1 hour 49.40 sec, my PB. Keep going Seth!
Dude you crushed it!!! Great job.
You are an inspiration for me. Thanks for everything.
What a shining example you set out there, Seth, regardless of what happened. You had every reason to feel down, but instead of isolating yourself, you spent your time cheering hard for others as they finished their marathon runs. Thank you for reminding all of us about the important things in life, including me.
Love the commitment Seth!
Way to go!! Super proud!!
Congratulations, what an incredible time ! You are a great inspiration for all runners ! I'm learning a lot watching you on UA-cam. First marathon for me next week in Frankfurt, I hope to finish it in 3h45 !
Well done & I’m proud of you man. 👊🏾👍🏽
Great job Seth. We go again. Safe trip back to Colorado. I did my long run 21 kms on Sunday, got back in time to watch Amsterdam marathon.
We were with u all the way Seth... Well done we proud of u!
