I spent two weeks in a Altima "S" version from Enterprise Car Rental, and loved it. It's what I call a nice car. And the bump in the hood that they mention here, really did enhance my experience. The "S" version has "Sport" mode built into the shifter. The only thing I didn't like about the "S" version is that it has plastic wheel covers that don't completely hide the steel wheel behind them. The Altima is going on the list for my next car purchase.
I love the CVT. Keeps the REV's low while being in the right 'gear' every time. Perfect for going up hills without the pesky shift points. I can't vouch for longevity of the CVT ,,however nor the repair bills if it 'snaps'...
Would you be able to comment on the road noise, especially on rough pavement/concrete highways? Specifically, i am comparing it with the 2015 Golf with 16" tires. Thanks!
Dear TFL team. I have one request and that is when you review budget and value cars could you please shine some light on infotainment system. Such as Apple car play or Androud Auto. How many USBs and speakers and if they actually any good. That would help a lot. As it would help yo narrow down cars and understand value. Cheers!
I've never been a fan of commuter cars but Nissan did a heck of a job with this new Altima. From my perspective, I think it's better-looking than all other Nissan models, especially the new Maxima.
+Luis Oramas I wouldn't have said this just a few years ago, but I think most Nissan products are better than the equivalent Honda and Toyota products today.
I feel like you didn't quite understand the new transmission. It shifts around town during normal driving. If you punch it it holds because that's the fastest acceleration. Seems you described it backwards.
from a stop using the kickdown switch it won't shift for max acceleration but in sport mos if you floor it from a slow roll it will shift. it will also shift from a stop if you have it in drive but not using the kickdown switch during full acceleration. take that into consideration when doing your full review!
+occckid123 Thanks for the comment but this is completely crazy. Really?! Is this how the average Altima buyer will drive the car? Keep in mind we do real world testing.
+The Fast Lane Car think about it? how many altima drivers are actually flooring the car past the kickdown switch? most don't even k ow there is a click and will never know! giving 50 percent throttle from a stop and the CVT will shift like it has gears. the actual real world people driving aren't flooring there cars from stoplights like In this video :)
+MrKeyboardCommando yes there is. gets you 2 higher rpm more quickly and gives you better accleration. also cancels out shifting in drive mode when it's pushed or in sport mode the shifts happen more rapidly. maybe 6 or 7 shifts from 0-100 instead of 5 shifts. among other things I could explain.
occckid123 How can a CVT shift ? The whole idea is it's a constantly variable transmission, or, in other words, there aren't any separate gears to shift between.

The Fast Lane Car nice Altima is they finally manufacturing them in Smyrna Tennessee only this like the first Altima because this one like all Altimas are so bitchin cute
They've put millions in to CVT technology, plus other of Japanese car bands are using them now. There is no way they are going away anytime soon. Their Infiniti brand however is a different story.
+Roclee612 what?and how much does an accord hybrid cost? they're talking about regular gas engine cars without a hybrid setup. the old altima hybrid scored a 6.9 second 0-60 in 1 test but most were around 7.2 so they're about equal but that's old Nissan/Toyota tech with much less mpg!
I have one of these as a rental while my car is in the shop. The CVT is terrible. I'm sorry. Please Nissan, give it a real automatic transmission and I will seriously consider buying one in a few years.

Everyone is mad at Nissan for using CVTs but where in the hell were you all when they offered Nismos and SE-R's and coupes on practically every model!? Hell, most people rather multitask and drive then use a manual. Hell, Nissan gets so much flak because they try so much first, but Honda and Toyota gets a pass for trying what Nissan has been doing all along (Sport Cars, CVTs, Crossovers, LEAF, Infiniti Designs etc.) And for those trying to compare this to Accord, which it does well, tell me a Full Sized Sedan Honda Offers that competes with Maxima while still trying to keep Acura relevant!? I'll wait. And PS, Nissan is older than Toyota and Honda, just saying.
Kyzzle112718 I rock the shit out of my 06 Altima SE-R. can't beat a damn 6 speed. I'm losing faith in my brand with these gay cvt's they keep putting in all their newer cars. they need to bring the SE-R line back for two years.
occckid123 It's classified as a full sized sedan with competitors such as the Avalon, Taurus, Chrysler 300, etc. Sentra is compact, Altima is mid sized and Maxima is full sized. Look up full sized sedans and you'll see.
+Ness Rosenbrad I thought that the interior had to be a certain cubic feet to be classified as a full sized sedan? I didn't think that this fit the bill but the 2004-2008 maxima did?
+Ness Rosenbrad its not bigger by every dimension, its has more interior space which is achieved based on the cars more conventional shape. a lower and more sporty car like the maxima will be harder to achieve the same interior space because of things like plush seats, padded panels, a low roof and bigger wheels which will need bigger wheelwells.
Its the same VQ35DE engine they had 14 years ago. Back in 2002 the SE model produced 240hp, and 2007 it made 270hp. And this one make 270hp. No optional 6 speed just CVT only.
Infiniti just came out with three new smaller, and more powerful engines. The smallest one which is a 2.0 liter turbo that makes more power that the 3.5 liter. The middle engine is a 3.0 liter turbo making 345hp, and the big bad boy will be a 3.0 liter turbo making 400 and 350 lbs of torque.
My brother works with the factory where they design fords actually he showed me how the 2017 Ford Fusion looks and I'm amazed you guys think accords, passats, camerys, sonatas, the new Altima,mazda6,and the new maxima is starting to outshine the fusion your going to think really different when they finally release photos on fords website looks more like and bmw/amg a little don't believe see for your self when the middle of 2016 hits people are going to be all over the fusion ford wasn't doing so well with hp and pound ft of torque but this ford product is probably faster than all of theses cars I listed thank g0sh they didn't take any horsepower down or torque down like other competitors in this segment did just wait patiently. ;)😄
This tells me you've probably never driven one. For what it is, it's quick, nimble and efficient. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done without fuss.
I'm just SMH every time I hear something on the Altima is bigger, longer, wider or faster then the Maxima. It's a damn shame just to know this and that Nissan would even have its upscale Maxima fail to its little brother Altima. There is no way the Altima should be able to out do the Maxima but only by price & sales (cheaper). So I've been researching many vehicles over the past 3-4 years more aggressively this year so I chose 4 vehicles that would suit my needs (Mazda 6, Nissan Maxima, Subaru Wrx, Chrysler 300S, ) I've watched plenty of reviews just like this looked up specs, seen comparisons, features you know research etc. I want something that's sporty has horsepower has space features luxurious features something cool about it something that will stand out so I boiled it down to two cars the Nissan Maxima 7th generation and the Chrysler 300S. not to keep this short look up the videos look up the stats features head-to-heads and the Chrysler 300s overwhelmingly out does the Maxima in everything for the most part even though I do not like American vehicles I do love American muscle cars but the 300s is the closest thing with decent price range that I can live with and worth the buy.
It's just bigger that's all. Maxima is still and will always be faster. But what I really don't get is howling they didn't make the new Maxima bigger. I always thought the 13 Altima looked bigger than the previous Maxima and the tradition still continues. This is a mid sized sedan but is more like a full sized while the Maxima is classified as a Full sized but is really a mid sized.
+Ness Rosenbrad The altima has been faster than the maxima since 2002. The main reason this is is because of the weight difference. The maxima has better sound dampening materials and higher quality interior. Even on this channel they raced the two and the altima easily won. The maxima is just a more luxurious version of the altima. They are both classified as midsize by the EPA.
Nissan should've just given up the CVT transmission before they started. You absolutely CANNOT market a car as a "4-door sports car" if CVT is anywhere near the spec sheet. Same mistake as Subaru made with their new CVT WRX. It's just not a sports transmission. I would've considered a Maxima had it had a manual (or in the more realistic current society, at LEAST a slushbox auto or DCT), but the second CVT popped into mind, Maxima was crossed off every list known to man for me.
+Dan Chang you need to drive one, I have a 2011 Maxima and its a blast to drive and very fast with the cvt....maxima use to have manuals but no one buys manuals and dct are not smooth and can be very clunky ....... if I wanna feel gear changes i just simply put it into sport mode and it feels just like a regular trans
Mark G I understand that it's not slow. I've driven both the CVT Maxima and Altima, as well as the new CVT WRX. They were okay to drive, but a LOT of the fun was drained out on twisty roads where the CVT really struggles with sounding good and feeling like a real transmission. Of course, I'm a bit biased, coming from a G37 with 330hp and a 7AT that rips through gears like a crazed animal. It's possible that I'm only this against CVT because I have fast cars with better transmissions to compare to. That said, I would personally never own one.
+Dan Chang A "real transmission"? As opposed to a fake transmission? The transmission **Transmits** the power produced in the engine and through the wheel/tire and into the ground. Currently CVT is the most efficient way of doing this. You may not like CVT and refuse to own one, but by any definition they are in fact "real". If for you the by product of the transmission, noise, is the most important part of the machine, well so be it.
+Ben Winterburn I say "real" loosely, lets face it, this is UA-cam and I don't see much value in carefully formulating each word. I know its a real transmission, I just don't consider it good enough for spirited driving for me to count it in any discussion pertaining drivetrains. I may just be too picky, but I guess it's just my opinion.
Also, it wasn't necessarily the noise as much as the WAY it accelerated. it was fast, sure, but it didn't give a firm shove of acceleration the way an auto or clutch system would. feels a bit elasticy and indirect for my taste
Nissan needs to bring back the SE-R line cause these new Altimas with their shitty cvts are an embarrassment. The design of the cars are gorgeous but their insides are just cheap trash thrown together to boost numbers.
The Fast Lane Car. You guy's shouldn't be Nissan reviewers. You guys don't know anything and are really biased. Last generation Altima was bigger? The 2013-2018 Altima is all the same, it was just a rereshment for 2016 it's not a different generation! You missed a lot of the new features it came with. And your on your guys 2013 Altima vs 2013 maxima video. You got your torque specs wrong for the altima. I know these cars better.
Not a proper shot of the interior trunk or under the hood. Camera work could be better. We wanna see more of the car and less of the people talking about the car.
in my opinion I like the Altima better you get more for your money I'm not going to pay $40,000 for a fully loaded Maxima I like the style of the Maxima but it's not a 4 door sport car. I can get a better car for that price I will stick with the Altima get all the same features for $30,000 I get a better car for my money and save $10,000.
the older model could be plain but it's was kinda elegant and this one is just ugly for me the grill and expecially the lights are ugly I prefer the other once but the tail lights look like the sentra
Love it when Roman and Nathan review cars together! Pretty Nissan too!
Do they make this without a CVT? Sounds horrible.
The new Altima has daytime running lights right?
I spent two weeks in a Altima "S" version from Enterprise Car Rental, and loved it. It's what I call a nice car. And the bump in the hood that they mention here, really did enhance my experience. Nissan should bring back the SE-R and make one for both the Altima and Maxima with the VQ37 and a 6Spd MT
Fabulous redesign. The previous generation was plain ugly, and this totally solved that.
Which generation year?
have you guys consider to drive cars with low horse power (about 200 hp or less) up hill
What kind of cameras do you guys use?? Amazing video!!

Basically Nissan's version of the Accord Sport. Same engine as the base model with a sportier ride and look. Lukewarm IMHO.
Honestly this is a nice looking sedan. Obviously it's not made for performance but style wise you can't complain about it..
I've never been a fan of commuter cars but Nissan did a heck of a job with this new Altima. From my perspective, I think it's better-looking than all other Nissan models, especially the new Maxima.

I do not understand why this channel does not have more subscribers?!?
Because of the biased points of view presented.
I just got my last night hope works well
Is their a 2008-16 nissan altima/maxima that is automatic transmission but not cvt?
Why you dont use the paddle shifters?
Is the Nissan Altima will be available on the Philippines? Please ask Nissan TFL. Thank You.

They're complaining because the car sales largely because Nissan has to offer an extended warranty to move them.
Ok it looks a lot better in this video then it did in the first look.
Any chances in the 2017?
As for the fuel economy...doesn't the Mazda 6 get 40 mpg highway?

Ness Rosenbrad ok I was wondering because this is a pretty extensive refresh...a great improvement over the bland 2013-2015

+Dan Chang
A "real transmission"?
"Check this out"
..... *doesn't show the trunk at all*
I don't get why they are making cheap looking interior buttons and dash now.
Nissan is disappointing
Yup.
Give a 6 spd auto I'll take the slight sacrifice in economy. I cannot get use to that CVT rubber-band groaning the engine/power train make.
Really !!!! No one even can compare this cheap car with accord, sonata,Camry and optima. Altima's interior has a cheapest one incredible!!!
Not a proper shot of the interior trunk or under the hood. Camera work could be better. We wanna see more of the car and less of the people talking about the car.
C.V.T was a big mistake for Nissan. Now I drive a B.M.W
in my opinion I like the Altima better you get more for your money I'm not going to pay $40,000 for a fully loaded Maxima I like the style of the Maxima but it's not a 4 door sport car. I can get a better car for that price I will stick with the Altima get all the same features for $30,000 I get a better car for my money and save $10,000.

Just buy a 2016 Honda Accord Sport.
+hmmm or the 2016 Civic! :)
still no acceleration to be a 3.5...Really?
They are testing the 4 cyl listen to the damn video
great car but the cvt is ruining it
the older model could be plain but it's was kinda elegant and this one is just ugly for me the grill and expecially the lights are ugly I prefer the other once but the tail lights look like the sentra
Am i the inly one who wants to see the new 2016 chevrolet malibu?
hate the cvt idea
ok
Still using nissan's over-designed style....meh
Fixed rear headrests, WTF Nissan?
Aww not a v6
looks more like a big sentra to me
