Thanks a lot for the video. I got my Gen 3 early in the week and just now had a chance to install it. One part was not covered by the instructions they sent me and your video above starting at the 11 min mark saved me. Thanks again sir for taking the time to lay this all out basic style!
I am a Gen 1 user and your router link worked for me. I was able to order the new router. Thanks for this as well as the breakdown of operation and setup.
From this message I understand that the Gen 3 Router is not yet being offered with new Starlink install packages, right? So, if I order a new setup now I will need the dongle with my Gen 2 Router. Where does this dongle connect? Is it between the router and the power supply?
Thanks for the info on the LED indicator. I set up my Gen3 yesterday with great results. But when I woke up this morning, there was no LED indicator, so I thought it died in the night. I did a speed test thru the app and saw it was still working. It's kind of confusing to turn the LED off, even though the router is on and working. IMO, they should leave the white LED on to indicate that it's still connected to the internet rather than making noobs like me think that it's powered off.
I was offered and accepted one of the new Gen3 routers, still using the original Gen1 dish. I know Gen1 can't be used in a mesh network. I'm also using a Linksys node system to try and extend wifi signal but it's not performing as well as I would like. Would a different node system/wifi extender work better in this situation? Full disclosure though, my office/router and nodes are separated by what used to be an outside wall and I am unable to relocate the router.
What is the setup for a new Gen-3 router with an existing/working Gen-2 router and rectangle dish? The current Gen-2 setup uses the starlink ethernet adapter to connect to another router that feeds a TV. Thanks for any help!!
Good video. I decided to run a mesh network using a hardwired cat 8 cable between the nodes. The 2 mesh nodes connect at 2.5Gb. Now from first floor south east side of the house to the second floor north west side of the house I have good WiFi connectivity. Before that I would lose WiFi connectivity upstairs in the north west side of the house because a metal heating and cooling ductwork was blocking the WiFi signal upstairs. The primary node is WiFi 6e and the secondary node is WiFi 6. So I can always get a good WiFi 6 connection anywhere in the house. I have purchased the middle tier internet service which is 600Mb down and I can get that on WiFi with my iPad, iPhone and windows laptop computer.
I finally managed to convince Starlink's website that my address is real. The only bummer is I could not order the new Gen 3 router. It has been restricted to a handful of US users by invitation only. 😞 I did include the ground mount, extra cable, and Ethernet adapter, so I should be set. Now it's time to hurry up and wait.
@JCristina 6 TP Link Routers jammed it's own signal and didn't work on my 2 acre property. 6 Starlink routers spaced at 70 feet has yellow signal, but works good at 5 MBPS-30 MBPS wifi speed around the entire property. Thank you for your help.
So I have had two nodes running off my main router wirelessly for some time. I would like to convert the nodes to being wired to the main router (leveraging existing ethernet cables routed through my home). I don't see any specific instruction how to do this - is it as simple as just plugging one ethernet into an available plug on the gen 3 router and the other end into the gen 3 node? I've done this and it seems my nodes are running fast, but I don't see the connection of the node changing from 5 ghz to "wired".
I just got my starlink yesterday.. As u can probably guess I'm wondering, why didn't I get the latest router? I waited over 2 1/2 years for my turn to come up. Any suggestions?
@@jcristina Oh OK. I didn't get to finish watching the video and thought gen 3 was already out replacing gen 2. My mistake. Thanks for the info. I just found your channel yesterday and I appreciate the effort you put into the videos.
For those of us using Starlink in a motorhome, physical wiring into another router is a PITA. Limited number to devices etc. so we just need to use in the most secure fashion possible
Hello, I have tried setting up my gen 3 router using your instructions and it shows on my device but connects with no internet. The light indicator on the gen 3 unit continues to flash white. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure all of your wires are connect well. I would remove and plug back in and then factory reboot/reset the unit and see if it finds the sats. Might be defective if not. Sure link up pretty quickly.
ok so did all this and got red light . device connects to router but a few seconds later says no internet connection . you mentioned pinout . cat 7 from dish power supply to gen 1 100 feet worked ok . I just moved router end to gen 3 . Is the cable into gen 3 a different pinout ? why the red , dish was fine round one . it never asked me for password either
It could be acquiring signal and will come online with in a few minutes, up to 15 minutes depending. If not, I would factory reset everything and start over. If that does not work either, their could be a hardware problem and it would need to be replaced.
what about eero mesh by amazon. I bought a eero 99.00 mesh unit. what cables do we use. I have to have a cat cable for my security system. and i will need 2 ehternet portds how do i do it.
Can you make a video with someone doing what you’re talking about on how to connect from gen 2 to gen 3. We are having problems connecting to gen 3 . We’ve tried 3 times already but no luck. We’re thinking of returning the gen 3 back to Starlink
@@jcristinathe gen 3 came with 2 cables. We didn’t know we needed the Ethernet adapter, so we bought one and followed the picture but it didn’t changed the router name back to StarLink and when I looked at my starlink app on my phone it shows the upright router and not the horizontal router. Could you please make a video with someone demonstrating the steps. Not tech savvy around here
It would have been nice if you had some one doing what you were saying. We are still having problems trying to connect out Gen 3 router. We got the first part done where you connect the cable to the white power source and to the router. The second cable you plug one end to the router but where do you plug the other end? We only have the upright router and a long cable to the dish.
Probably not, just got my starlink today and its gen 2, it only took 2 years and 5 months. Haven’t even hooked it up yet because I have to order mounting hardware.
Mr. Cristina, I am not a techie, so please be kind when viewing my question: I want to upgrade to a gen 3 router - I presently have a gen 2 router. Is using the gen 2 router as a node, as easy as running an ethernet cable from one of the 2 ports at the back of the gen 3 router to the dongle ethernet port on the gen 2 router - is it that easy? Thank you Sir.
I subscribed. Thank you very much for the great English and informative video! Looking forward to more of your Gen 3 videos since I just got mine today!!
@jcristina my brother want to buy gen 3 router to connect to our gen 2 but we need a adaptor for it if we do this will we able to use wifi 6 or is it better just to replace our gen 2
Hi there !!! Please please can you show me how to set up a gen 3 into a gen 2 system as main router. I have the PoE and I tried bypass mode. Can only get it to work in mesh mode. Love the channel, love Starlink.
So if i understand I have my Gen 2 router and one Gen 2 mesh node, so when i am able to get the Gen 3 router can i then move my Gen 2 router into a mesh node status? As always great content. Thanks. And mo tea time today you must have been excited to get this out there😅😅😅😅.
Very well done video. Gave it the thumbs up. I have a question. When you install additional Starlink routers or nodes do they have to be hard wired together or are they wireless but using the POE?
Can the Gen 3 router be configured to broadcast a separate 2.4 Ghz frequency as well as a 5 Ghz? I currently have multiple "smart" devices (switches/plugs) tgat will only connect to 2.4 Ghz. I am considering switching to Starlink as my ISP vs At&t and not uses tge At&t router
The power light comes on normally but then goes out after a while. Everything still works though. Also the unit runs pretty warm - should I add a fan to cool this thing...
Great. I just ordered last week. I'm guessing gen 2. My sub conscious was telling me to wait. I had trouble using my debit card. Usually a red flag not to continue, for me. Slow internet and impatience I persevered with payment. The gen 2 should be fine. I have a new HiKVision router which I will setup in WISP mode and should be good to go.
thak you for your generous posts. so helpful. one comment regarding 'the hard cable is always better than wifi'. generally obviously that's true. but sometimes especially if people use docking stations for their computers, the docking station could have a speed limitation, which wifi does not. so i would say always test out the speeds in doubt....thanks again!!!
Joe, I just bought a multi factored situation, and I absolutely love your videos so I tried to find one that fit my situation…. Either you haven’t made one, or I’m just not seeing it….. I have Starlink for internet, and ring alarm and cameras for security, and I watched and saved the one with the TPLink mesh network to extend the wifi…… But do you have or can you make a video to tie all of those in together please Sir?… 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
New Router has to be 150 feet from the main router Before I buy gen 3.. wanna make sure it’s actually gonna work without a cord bc the main router doesn’t have another plug to connect …it has to be wireless If it’s plugged in near the orginal … connects… then brought to plug in 150 ft away.. will it work?
As for me, i recommend Mikrotik RouterBoard. It has all features that one needs but you must be have the training or tutorials on how to use it because it has a whole OS like software inside

My new Gen 3 router does not have any Ethernet ports. Your video said there were 2 if I heard you correctly.
Hello, I have a question/comment. I looked at the information on the Gen3 router on the Starlink site under installation. It indicates that if you have a Gen2 setup you need to have the Ethernet adapter and use the Gen2 as the PoE injector for the dish and then set the Gen2 in bypass mode. There is no PoE injector for the Gen3 at this point in time. If you have a Gen1 setup you just swap the Gen1 out and the Gen3 in as there is a separate PoE injector with the Gen1 setup. My question is how long do you think it will take Starlink to have a PoE injector for the Gen3 standalone setup? Maybe the PoE for the Gen1 can be ordered separately. Not sure if it will deliver the required power to the Gen2 dish though.
Hello J, I have cat6 in the wall frames, are those cat6 cables good enough for the Gen3? The 75ft cable Starlink sells on the website, is that the same cable for the new dish? Thank you for an other helpful video!
My Starlink is saying my Router is unreachable ..is this normal? My internet works…but I am also unable to access my Network? Is there any way this can be corrected? Thanks.
Did you figure this out? My router and dish have both been unreachable for 24hrs now. I’ve tried everything. The factory reset button doesn’t do anything either. I contacted support, but I may reach retirement age before they reply. I ordered a third party router on Amazon because I work from home and cannot afford to be without internet, but I don’t even know if it’ll actually work.
J, you do know the latest app software is wpa3 right? It defaults to whatever your max device offers, but its been wpa3 for a year and a half on the app...love ya Be Well 🕊️
When I go to order Starlink. There is no option that I can find to purchase any accessories like the mesh. There is one single box to order, which is the router and dish.

I make my SSID on ALL of my routers and call them "FBI Surveillance Vehicle" I also do it with my cell phone hotspot. LOL
If I purchase starlink as of today, will i get it delivered with this gen 3 router?
Probably not, just got my starlink today and its gen 2, it only took 2 years and 5 months. Haven’t even hooked it up yet because I have to order mounting hardware.
Mr. Cristina, I am not a techie, so please be kind when viewing my question: I want to upgrade to a gen 3 router - I presently have a gen 2 router. Is using the gen 2 router as a node, as easy as running an ethernet cable from one of the 2 ports at the back of the gen 3 router to the dongle ethernet port on the gen 2 router - is it that easy? Thank you Sir.
What's the average latency for Gen 3 router using the Ethernet port? Need reliable and stable video connection for Zoom, video chat, etc.
can i hard wire a node (starlink 2 rounter) 200 ft away over cat5 cable ?
My question is can you use your main wire used on generation 2 that goes to Dishy to generation 3. My wire is through the wall
Mine is too..
i bougth starlink in ebay, and and how can i activate it? i have problev with activation there is "Device already assigned" what can i do?
HeyJ,please shed some light on led light on the Gen 3 router should it be off for long periods, because mine is off for very long periods
Nice video bro. My starlink still going strong .
Awesome!!
I subscribed. Thank you very much for the great English and informative video! Looking forward to more of your Gen 3 videos since I just got mine today!!
This video was very helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for being here.
Please how can I generate key for different user
It is possible to connect a 3 rd gen startlink mesh node to a starlink 3 rd gen router with an ethernet cable
Small correction, you only have to quickly press the reset button once vs holding it for a few seconds. Great video though!
Great job and detailed explanation!
How can I unplug the router cord to dish
Very well done video. Gave it the thumbs up. I have a question. When you install additional Starlink routers or nodes do they have to be hard wired together or are they wireless but using the POE?
Do I need an adapter to connect the gen 3 router to a gen 1 disk
Just ordered my starlink going around about a week
You’re the man, thank you for this video. 🎉 Tempting, tempting, tempting product.
Just checked with Fluke meter - 112°
Will gen 3 router work with gen 2 wire?
No.
Will the gen 2 cable work on the gen 3 router
If i order now at the Starlink website the internet equipment they will send the gen 3?
No. You’ll get the 2nd Gen.
Please provide link to the router you are currently using. Thanks
Hi,
Does Starlink allow Port forwarding and how can I use it with Mikrotik Router to be able to perform port forwarding
The link to the new router doesn't work. Getting a "Product not found" message. Thanks for the information!
Very informative. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
With the gen 3 I can connect multiple router to it
So I can connect 5 router to my starlink to get internet multiple room?
Are the ethernet ports gigabit or 2.5 on the new router?
Joe, I just bought a multi factored situation, and I absolutely love your videos so I tried to find one that fit my situation…. Either you haven’t made one, or I’m just not seeing it….. I have Starlink for internet, and ring alarm and cameras for security, and I watched and saved the one with the TPLink mesh network to extend the wifi…… But do you have or can you make a video to tie all of those in together please Sir?… 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
New Router has to be 150 feet from the main router
Before I buy gen 3.. wanna make sure it’s actually gonna work without a cord bc the main router doesn’t have another plug to connect …it has to be wireless
If it’s plugged in near the orginal … connects… then brought to plug in 150 ft away.. will it work?
Please can you recommend a good third party router that has all the features yours have?
As for me, i recommend Mikrotik RouterBoard. It has all features that one needs but you must be have the training or tutorials on how to use it because it has a whole OS like software inside
My new Gen 3 router does not have any Ethernet ports. Your video said there were 2 if I heard you correctly.
Great information by the way.
Look under the DOOR... There is a COVER..
Thanks so much Lisa!
Oh for heavens sake. I didn't realize there was a door. THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for the update. You are the guy I watch regarding StarLink issues.
Do any of these Starlink routers support VPN protocol? Can they pass through VPN from another brand of router?
I do not think so. I would recommend a third party router.
How many Volt the Router, passive?
Good question.
So you can’t upgrade your gen 2 to the gen 3 router correct?
Hi @JCristina is there a way to upgrade hardware? I have the first hardware of starlink.
As soon as it’s available to you. Check the URL provided in the description.
@@jcristina Thanks 😊
Checked Starlink on my account page and found out this new router only for invitation only at this time. but still good info. thanks
If you are in bypass mode can you still use the Gen2 in a mesh setup?
Hello,
I have a question/comment.
I legit just ordered and received my gen 2 about 2 weeks ago an now there's a better one out...
Hello J, I have cat6 in the wall frames, are those cat6 cables good enough for the Gen3? The 75ft cable Starlink sells on the website, is that the same cable for the new dish? Thank you for an other helpful video!
Can I use the original gen 1 router as part of my gen 3 mesh network?
Yes you can according to my knowledge.
I just got my Starlink system with the gen 2 router.... sucks I didn't get the 3.
You can’t. Gen 3 is only an update to gen1
How does this new router and WiFi 7 work....
This is two rev behind WiFi 7
Our third gen is setup. Why does it say unsecured network?
Very strange. Never heard of that.
JC. Thanks for all the useful info. I have a question. Can I use Linksys wifi routers as a mesh network with this new gen3 router?
Hello whats the realistic speeds you predict this new router will produce
The very important is a small router like we use here in Kuwait
J, you do know the latest app software is wpa3 right? It defaults to whatever your max device offers, but its been wpa3 for a year and a half on the app...love ya Be Well 🕊️
Appreciate you.
@@jcristina You too J, Happy Weekend.... love all your content, and the great detail.......... Be Well! 🕊️
I tried your link for the router and all I get is......... Product Not Found
Make sure you’re a Gen 1 customer. Gen 2 can’t purchase yet
That's what I was thinking later. Tks@@jcristina
Great video, I have gen two, but a big house, so hoping for the gen 3 then I’ll try to set up my mesh network.
When I go to order Starlink. There is no option that I can find to purchase any accessories like the mesh. There is one single box to order, which is the router and dish.
thanks, hopeing to get gen 3 in the Philippines...
🤞🏻
