This brings back sweet memories! Years ago on a cold Winters night my wife and i were in Portsmouth and got tickets to see Ed playing guitar in the old Unitarian church. Snow was falling lightly, the place was packed with wonderful like minded individuals. You could hear a pin drop. Ed with his humble and cheerful attitude spoke a little between numbers of which this particular one brought tears to many eyes. If Angels are real they witnessed this wonderful music floating through the old church. At the time, i had just lost my job and we were concerned about our children and Christmas time can be very hard on the soul. After this concert, we both decided things would work out ok. And they did. Thanks, Ed. MT
ive recently taken up this style of playing after 50 years of guitar playing, this is so inspiring, the feel the tone and just wonderfullness is fantastic. love it
Man Ed, you define the ultimate translation of Ry’s masterful work as played on the Weissonborn Style. Your sensitivity to the use of dynamic’s as the central theme is uncanny. It took me listening to your performance for “peg head nation” about twenty billion times to finally let the whole work, in all it’s transcendent beauty, soak completely through to my soul. Thank you for sharing your masterful performance with us. Your smile at the end is killer. JimR
If you are in the right mood this version is the best you will ever hear. Tired, depressed, anxious, upset, this will sooth and calm you like a mothers touch, like nothing else can. If you are excited, electrified, happy, wanna dance, this might bore you to pieces. Ed plays this like you are sitting on the side of a beautiful waterfall in the jungle and just want the best compliment to the sounds of nature. Are you in that mood?
I'm feeling very similar to you sir, I picked up the acoustic guitar in 1979 and have played ever since, but I think this would be a great change...lets move on ...!
After watching and listening to you play that instrument I was inspired to buy one. I have been playing guitar most of my life, and started learning the dobro a few years ago. I just got my Weissenborn guitar today and can't put it down. What a wonderful sounding instrument. Keep pickin' and grinnin' and God bless.
What are the small fret type things under your lowest tuned string? What are their function? Looks like the 2 nearest the nut are flush to the fretboard & the rest are higher. Can you push some down for other tunings or something? Thanks in advance for your answer.
Here is a great interview that explains the frets I asked about. squareneckjournal.com/2015/02/19/a-conversation-with-grammy-award-winning-guitarist-ed-gerhard/
Is there any amp involved here at all? It sounds like reverb is being added, but it could just be the guitar's natuaral resonance. Beautiful performance.
How ‘bout one or two of the eighteen of y’all that shot a negative please comment as to why you did so. I’m curious, and I really would love to know why you feel the way you do. You have all the right in the world to dislike anything you choose. No question. Lot of things I don’t like myself. But there is music, this vid being one of them, that is so.....right, that I don’t get how, even if it’s not your type, you can give a negative rather than simply shining it on. Respond, please.

There is such a quiet inner beauty in this man and it flows like a river through his music.
Absolutely Beautiful ❤
Brings a smile and a tear to my face. So wonderfully and delicately performed. Thank you for sharing.

Looks like the child of a cello and a steel guitar, and sounds like angels jamming gently.
Simply transcendent - the reason for Music and the human transmission of it - pure Beauty
Wonderful !!! Nothing like a Weissenborn and a very gifted talented man . What a blessing ! Thank you .

Wow! Loved this tune the first time I heard it years ago, and have heard it by many others since. This is my favorite. Kudos Ed.
What a beautiful song. And an artist who can really make the strings make an expression of endearment to his audience. Thank you!!!!!!
The genius that is Ed Gerhard.
Ed brings a tear to my eye every time with this arrangement.
Oh how I wish I still had more of THIS Oregon Myrtlewood!
I hope You still have SOME Myrtlewood, because one fine day there might be an order from Germany for a Myrtle Weissenborn...
--- Absolutely stunning ! ---
Ed and this song are the reason I bought a Weissenborn guitar.
Me too

just
beautiful...anyone know what tuning this is?
Beaut!😻
SUCESSO.
👏👏👏
눈물이 앞을 가립니다
Невероятно красиво! 👍
beautiful....!(open G tuning?)
Open C. Same as open D with low bass, but one whole note lower to open C.
emmonspp
oh,..sure, Open C...!thanks.....!!
ValerioMansueti ,not really its a tuning I use on dobro and to play songs like this and The Rainsong Zeppelin's best song
not std d tuning in c its cgcgce
virtuerecords.com/tunings/
He says here DADF#AD. in C tuning that would be CGCEGC. Indeed the E is on the 4th string as can be seen in the video.
Why are there frets under the lowest string? I have not seen that before. Do they get in the way when using a capo?
Here is a great interview that explains the frets I asked about.
squareneckjournal.com/2015/02/19/a-conversation-with-grammy-award-winning-guitarist-ed-gerhard/
What tuning ?
Woow tuning please? ?
Nice. I'd put a harmonic at the end, but that's me.
How dern beautiful is that? (:
Is there any amp involved here at all? It sounds like reverb is being added, but it could just be the guitar's natuaral resonance. Beautiful performance.
Que afinacion usas my friend ?? Execelent , from Argentine . Saludos
