Labeling everything is a great idea. We got to find out last June how nice it is to have even moderately well organized and labeled panty shelves when I went from upright to on the floor, and my poor husband saying "How far out is the ambulance?!!" over and over. They were sure it was a heart attack, I barely made it to the heart hospital an hour away, and it was something worse, and I was in the hospital for 4 days, with most of a month of recovery. I learned what to be grateful for. :) Anyway, being organized really helped us out.
I’m sorry you had that happen but aside for your being better, something great has been accomplished and helpful to you and your husband. Prayers for your continued recovery ❤️
I have been married 49 years and in this house for 34 years. I keep a pretty organized home. My husband comes in, goes straight to the kitchen table, plunks down his stuff, hangs his coat over the chair, and leaves it all there, all the time. He uses it as his desk. Every piece of mail he has to think about for 6 months will have to sit there, with his other junk. I HATE this so much I just cannot tell you. I have given him many other places to put his stuff, and have asked him if he wants a desk somewhere. He says no. I am doing a whole house declutter right now, cause his uncle died suddenly and was a hoarder. His flat, 3 floors, is full, and filthy. My husband is bringing home boxes and boxes and boxes of paperwork, looking for a will or something to help them settle this estate and sell his properties. You guessed it, he was putting it on the kitchen table. He is also sorting thru coins that his uncle laid everywhere. I made him set up a spot in the garage to keep this stuff. He can bring it in and sort, and then take it out to the garage. He also has a table in the basement where he sorts the coins. I have put my foot down and won't let him leave anything on the table now. He continues to do it. I think it is a passive aggressive behavior that he does just to make me mad. He will put his stuff away when I ask, but leave one thing and claim he did not see it. At least put it on your dresser so no one sees it. If I was younger I would leave him cause he has many of these little behaviors that he does, seemingly just to drive me nuts. What good is it to have a clean and pretty kitchen, when your table and chairs are someone's dump spot? You are so right about flat surfaces. I don't want all this dirty and old stuff from his uncle in my house now, unless it is really a treasure. So far we have just found junk. I am at my wits end, and I am trying to cope by doing a really deep decluttering of MY stuff. I am getting rid of a lot of stuff I no longer need. I will not leave a mess for my kids.
When this video started I was thinking, here we go again, she's going to tell us to hide our crumby toaster and wet coffee maker inside cabinets like Joshua Becker BUT you came through with some more practical advice! What really clicked for me is saying that most of the items on flat surfaces (including floors) don't belong so it's just a good idea to be mindful of what is there for a functional purpose and intentional decor versus all the other stuff that needs to be stored properly or decluttered. Don't you just want to tidy off some surfaces after watching this? I'm on it!
I have a very organized home, and i have a 10 month baby. I already do a lot of the things you mention on your videos, so i can assure, this actually works. People that say it's not practical, maybe don't actually try, or they might be on a different place and need to find their own technique ❤
Yes, you are right but, we are all made different 🎉, so we do things differently. I believe that she has a basement, she can store things there. I don't have any place to store my vacuum so it stays in the hallway. I need the vacuum because I have carpet throughout the apartment. I would store it in the garage, but I don't have one. I would store it in the laundry room, but I don't have one. My broom is store in the slender area between the wall and the fridge, because I don't have space. I don't have an ironing board, because I don't have space. So as much as possible, I do only keep what I use, the rest, I am declutering. 😢
You are not alone friend! And you make a very good point. A lot of these videos (which are great by the way), are done by Americans with houses that are packed with storage. It’s very rare that I come across somebody actually making note of those that don’t have any of these features in our homes and it is a real struggle sometimes. So I’ve learned to watch these videos and adapt them to my lifestyle and to my small home - which is difficult. I’ve learned not to beat myself up and be grateful for my home.
Cleared off counters, minimal trinkets, putting most appliances away, cleared off fridge doors/sides, cleared off floor. These all work. My kitchen/family room looks so much better and it makes me feel so much happier
I like the storage, but for batteries I use the battery daddy. It's my favorite way to store them. Plus is comes with a battery tester & I can usually get them for under $20 with a coupon at bed bath and beyond. I've bought them for gifts too. Everyone seems to love them.
Your videos about habits, discipline and organization have helped me so much! I have MS and Lupus and when things are routine and accessible it makes a huge difference. You've given me most of the tips to help me do what I need. Furthermore I've saved money using your tips and lost 45 lbs! You have helped me turn my life around...thank you!
Hey there i got rid of all visual clutter and let me tell you it was so peaceful for the eyes and and mind!! My appartment is so spacious and clutter free ...
I love them! A tip that might be practical for your floor clutter right now is to buy yourself a trash grabber. One of those saved me when I was pregnant with my third baby and had a busy toddler and preschooler!
I am going to start trying this five minute timer thing. I am one of those people who get very anxious and stressed when surrounded with clutter. I also store my appliances in cabinets. I have found that the less I keep on my kitchen counters, the cleaner those counters are 🎉
I absolutely love your videos!! As a medical provider who has a very “science/evidence-based” mind (as well as having a “clutter-blind” spouse), I appreciate the info you provide regarding the affect that clutter can have on our brains/mental/emotional health, and why it is so important to reducing stress in our already-stress-packed lives! Thank you!!
Excellent video and agree with everything you mentioned. Last few months I went through a separation settlement- moved from a large expensive house to a small house. Yes it was challenging downsizing but now I’m happier in a small house. One challenge I want to work on is finding a home for blender, air fryer etc. One key phrase you’ve always said is “your future self will thank you” for what you do today. Thank you for another great video
We only found space for our appliances in cupboards when we *severely* decluttered our kitchen stuff. We had to admit that we weren’t going to use this platter or that utensil. That we didn’t need a full set of mixing bowls in plastic, glass, AND metal. That we never have that many people over so we don’t need that many drinking or wine glasses. It was tough. But! Now even the instant pot has a home in a corner cupboard. 😊
Kitchen appliances. I agree. I use my air fryer and/or rice cooker DAILY but I always put them away. HOWEVER, I did have to change my rule for my stand mixer. I use it soooo much for so many things but it’s so big and heavy that I often would half booty something so I wouldn’t have to lug the thing out. But I did decide to put it out in a nice place it make it a functional decoration
Love these tips! We have the challenge of very little counter and cabinet space, so it feels impossible to keep the counters clear at all… will Keep puzzling around this!
That’s my problem too. There is absolutely no space to store small kitchen appliances, so the only counter space I have is taken with the blender, the air fryer and the toaster. I have to use my kitchen table as counter space and it is covered with all the stuff I use every day. Today is the day I clear it off!
You have definitely helped me to stop leaving things on flat surfaces. If I'm about to leave something on a flat surface, I remember what you always say, then I put it in its home or create one. I sometimes "accidentally" clean an area because I take all the like items of whatever I moved to or created a home for. 😄 I like keeping some of my kitchen appliances out. They are mostly red, and so are the silicone utensils in the caddy, and I like that look when I come into or walk past the kitchen. For me, I think it's cute. But I do kind of want to move some of them off the counter anyway. 😅😅
Absolutely I agree about the disappointment followed by delight that the front of my new fridge was not magnetic! (So magnets, photos & notices collect on the sides)
I spoke with a professional organizer and she said the same thing that you did. Put the timer on, the one on your phone for a short time and limit yourself so you won’t get overwhelmed. ❤
I completely agree with what you are saying…my flat surface’s are not all clear and my stress and anxiety levels are very very high and for a person that struggles with depression and anxiety this makes it hard to deal with because now I feel overwhelmed anyone have any tricks or ideas on how to overcome that and get my surfaces cleaned up??
I totally agree and been saying the same thing for years. I'm a very logical thinking person. Majority of people are comprehend things visually; therefore, visual clutter is an actual thing. One may not even realize but their subconscious definitely does. Thank you for your videos & shorts!❤
I listened to this video while I cleaned off my kitchen counter. It helped remind me why I'm doing this chore that I really dislike. 😁 I also love your tip from other videos about not putting off a chore until I feel like it, just being an adult and doing it anyway. I remind myself of that almost daily.
You showed up on my feed today, first time I’ve watched you- as a Feng Shui consultant, 💯 % agree with all you say about visual clutter!! It causes energetic chaos and stagnation!! Just subscribed to your channel for more tips, thank you!
I agree! My flat surfaces are a constant angst for me! I have a very small galley kitchen and store rarely used items on a shelf in the basement. I try to decant some items but the cabinets are not always the right height. Love that lipstick color on you.
I absolutely cannot stand stuff stuck all over the fridge! Ugh! No! Also the appliances on the counter. Nope! My single serve Keurig is the only thing that I leave out. These are all great points Kallie. ❤❤❤❤ Can't wait for the video about hiding cords. I'm sure I will learn something. 😊😊
Good morning Kallie. Everything's look great. A place for everything - and everything in it's place. As always, thanks so much for your tips on how to achieve a visually appealing and decluttered home. 😊
For those of us that work long hours away from home, there are no 5-15 minute slots to declutter. There are 7 messy people in my house. Recommendations? I have put baskets in the pantry & it's helped. Trying to get them to let go of junk is a trial!
This is great advice, Kallie. Especially, to keep those counters clear! It's a total game changer and I wish someone would have told me this when our kids were young. Great video!
So with you on this. A friend of mine is super organized but… she leaves open food packages around everywhere. Open boxes of cereal, open packs of crackers, open bags of chips. apples in a torn plastic bag on the counter. And clothes, towels and blankets hung over everything. Plus letters, mail, catalogs and flyers on the floor on tables, in shelves. Sure, it can be cleaned up in a few minutes and then things look really great. But why, why, why? Totally stresses me out. I dislike being at her place
Part of my daily "removing visual clutter" includes deciding which of yesterday's clothes should go to the hamper and which should go back to the closet. Among those going back to the closet, I steam the ones that need it. I do it every morning.
I have been using the 5 minute clean up and it is great. It even makes me more aware of clutter and put things away as I use them for less to do later.
I have only two small cupboards in the kitchen , not enough room to store appliances away ,so I have a microwave shelf that I store such things on ,right up against my gas heater up the wall ! I find that very satisfying. Also , I don't think there's any harm in storing some things on the counter , as long as it doesn't get in the way of your work space , Eg the space under a wall cabinet or a corner.
Thank you so much ! I just watch your video as soon as I woke . Im determined to tackle my visual surface today and stop giving excuses for not de cluttering because I have small kids . But because it’s practical to de clutter your visual surface !
I completely agree with your opinion on clutter. I like the thought of wall art but I don't like having to dust it, so I am off the mind to get sticker art or even paint the art on the wall so no dusting. Thanks for your video 😃
I definitely am tackling my visual clutter recently!! I love your tip on putting appliances and stuff away when you are done using it. Even if you will use it later that day. I used to keep my ipad and my laptop and other tools just floating around the bedroom or on the bed even when I wasn't working. I also need them to last as long as possible so I turn them off and return them to their home when I'm done. It's so nice being able to see the ENTIRETY of my desk. My desk is a huge magnet for visual clutter and it drives me (and my partner crazy lol) so implementing these habits is VERY PRACTICAL. Thank you for the video! I'm expecting my first baby and I will have to come up with an organized system for baby stuff and the things I'll need for recovery postpartum as well. I hope you have a great day! Love the video 💙
I started putting my appliances away, the ones I thought were too big and bulky to move and store elsewhere are simple because I made a home for them and the gratification of the space being open space now is so rewarding!
@@jlow27 Thank you so much 🥰💕 we are very excited to meet our babygirl! And thank you for the heads up on her postpartum videos I'll definitely be watching those.
@@nakias8362 exactly. I had two thirds of my counters covered and now I’m down to about a quarter. I’ll leave the Keurig out but my next move is getting the toaster away somewhere. Small things make the biggest differences!!
I REALLY loved this video. Very practical with a significant impact on serenity and efficiency. The only thing I would add about getting rid of packaging is to remember to keep cooking directions somewhere-maybe taped to the back of your storage container.
I just decanted my pantry as much as I could cause all the snacks and coffees etc wouldn’t fit in there and it made room and looks a great deal better, more functional too. Thank you!
As far as batteries go, the Battery Daddy is a cool product. It stores your batteries of all sizes and it also has a tester which is awesome! It's in the "as seen on TV" section at my Walmart. I give it a big 👍 and thank you for your video 👍
You've really got me working on decanting. We had a pantry built in and its a great space but I get so overwhelmed when I open the doors to its out of control looks, no labels and just messiness! I feel amazed with your labels, and containers, it give me a zen vibe 😊
I wish I had the space to put away my appliances but we live in a manufactured home and we do not have a pantry or lots of big spaces to store items like other people so my counters have to stay full with all the appliances, there is not other place to hide them, but your tips are great...
I do not mind having my everyday appliances on my counter just because neither I nor my husband will do additional work to bring it in and out every time🤷🏻♀️ Also, I will probably forget about them at some point. Another thing, I actually got some discomfort when my counter was empty (I tried to put everything away) I am very visual and hate closed storage😅
I noticed you had some nice wall space in the kitchen and I do know you frame your kids’ artwork as well but I love bulletin boards but I make sure to keep them orderly too. Things aren’t stacked on top of other things. I can see everything that’s upcoming for school and it just works well for me. I have one for artwork and one for life and things to do. Some thing like important phone numbers stay on the board all of the time. And once a new piece of artwork comes in, something comes off and gets stored away. And when that school party reminds is over, it goes in the trash. The key is not overstuffing them or they’ll look like hanging clutter then you’ll have to do a whole video on that lol. Just thought I’d share what works for me.
Agree except large kitchen items that are heavy and I use daily or more than daily. I am talking about juicer, food processor, blender is actually the smallest and I plan to buy more helpful large appliances. For me, only a kitchen with a “ garage “ or a pantry with counters that I can keep it all out on will work. Other than this, I already have the visual eye to keep things minimal eslewhere.
Thanks! Keep your kids picking up to. They will learn how hard it is to pick up and do better at putting it where it goes to start with .The kids each have their on box by the door at end of the day it has be empty
Excuse my French, but I fucking clear my flat surface spaces of clutter every morning now, thank you 😊It does work and I just stored away my bullet mixer last weekend and now going to store away my toaster oven now because of this vid lol thank you so much, love your content 💕I want calm and peaceful lol just turned 60 hot yoga is not enough lol

@@jlow27 Thanks so much. I so appreciate that!
@@jenpink4298 Absolutely.. Something that seems so minor helped Doug a great deal, when his patience and energy were both worn quite thin. :)
Omg, I’m literally crying right now. I’ve never heard the term “clutter blind” before and that’s what I’m experiencing!!!
Thank you Kallie for another great video! It really clicked for me when you said, “I keep my counters for working not storing.”
❤
I will not leave a mess for my kids.
start throwing away stuff he leaves out lol play his game “i didn’t see it” or “ it looked like trash” maybe that’s passive aggressive but i would.
Can I pause you on the 'Clear up Cables' portion. How? I would be very interested to hear and see your solutions to this. Thank you very much.
I do a 10 minute timer and I always go over. it's a great idea.
@@crybebebunny very true words! Many of us can relate to what you say
@@bluskyes8238 good idea to adapt what is said in these videos to our own lifestyle
@@srividyabalasubramaniam1559 Thank you ❣️🫠💞
Cleared off counters, minimal trinkets, putting most appliances away, cleared off fridge doors/sides, cleared off floor.
Kallie,
I enjoy watching your videos because you are a real one.
I never get tired of you talking about flat surfaces😝
Hey there i got rid of all visual clutter and let me tell you it was so peaceful for the eyes and and mind!! My appartment is so spacious and clutter free ...
I love them! A tip that might be practical for your floor clutter right now is to buy yourself a trash grabber. One of those saved me when I was pregnant with my third baby and had a busy toddler and preschooler!
I am going to start trying this five minute timer thing. I am one of those people who get very anxious and stressed when surrounded with clutter. I also store my appliances in cabinets. I have found that the less I keep on my kitchen counters, the cleaner those counters are 🎉
Gosh darnit Kallie, this is why all of us people like you😉🥰 Tyfs❤🙏🏾
I find that putting away my toaster really helps my kitchen look cleaner!!
I can't imagine anyone saying your tips aren't practical!
I agree with you 100 percent. I am riddled with anxiety when mail, newspapers and packaging pile up.
Bottom cabinets are your friends. Especially if you don't use these items too often but often enough to keep them.
We have the challenge of very little counter and cabinet space, so it feels impossible to keep the counters clear at all… will
Keep puzzling around this!
That’s my problem too. There is absolutely no space to store small kitchen appliances, so the only counter space I have is taken with the blender, the air fryer and the toaster. I have to use my kitchen table as counter space and it is covered with all the stuff I use every day. Today is the day I clear it off!
Great tips! And side note: you're so pretty!
You have definitely helped me to stop leaving things on flat surfaces. If I'm about to leave something on a flat surface, I remember what you always say, then I put it in its home or create one. I sometimes "accidentally" clean an area because I take all the like items of whatever I moved to or created a home for. 😄
I like keeping some of my kitchen appliances out. They are mostly red, and so are the silicone utensils in the caddy, and I like that look when I come into or walk past the kitchen. For me, I think it's cute. But I do kind of want to move some of them off the counter anyway. 😅😅
Probably the most realistic and relatable video, thank you!
Your five-minute declutter tip is a good one. Something I can implement right away, taking up minimal time but giving instant results 👍
LOL, your floors are a flat surface! I about died! That is so true, I never thought of that!!!
My dearest I'm Tremendously grateful to you for uploading such an informative, excellent, amazing, Wonderful video
I have back issues so my small children are the ones who help clear the floors while I clear other areas.
U always give great tips - u also practice kindness ❤ thank u
Absolutely agree that it’s worth it to put commonly used products away!!!
I agree with everything you say. Also visual clutter gets put on your to do list that rests in your mind.
Part of my daily "removing visual clutter" includes deciding which of yesterday's clothes should go to the hamper and which should go back to the closet. Among those going back to the closet, I steam the ones that need it. I do it every morning.
The floor!!!!! Thanks for this reminder!
Thank you so much for sharing these ideas! I completely agree with you in the beginning about the stress, etc that clutter can give. :)
Where did you get your labels? Where did you get those containers?
Thanks Kallie. Love your videos. Working on flat surfaces. Love the idea of doing something before bed. My tommorow me loves it.❤😂
My floors are a problem. I’m working on decluttering. Great video as always! ❤
I completely agree with your opinion on clutter. I like the thought of wall art but I don't like having to dust it, so I am off the mind to get sticker art or even paint the art on the wall so no dusting. Thanks for your video 😃
Good for stay at home moms. Working Moms and Dads need a vacation to really organize
This was so helpful. I have a toddler and am pregnant with my next baby, clutter has become one of my biggest battles!!
I use the pomodoro technique 20 minutes then a break. Great idea
And I know she’s got videos on how to prep for baby and postpartum. Congratulations on your new addition and good luck with everything ❤️
@@jlow27 Thank you so much 🥰💕 we are very excited to meet our babygirl! And thank you for the heads up on her postpartum videos I'll definitely be watching those.
@@jlow27 yessss!! It's so worth it. And then the space is actually useful when you need it to be ✨
@@nakias8362 exactly. I had two thirds of my counters covered and now I’m down to about a quarter. I’ll leave the Keurig out but my next move is getting the toaster away somewhere. Small things make the biggest differences!!
Looking forward to your cord organizing video!
Thank you!
Ugghhh..yessss!!! Those flat surfaces seriously are accumulation areas...thank you for this video
As far as batteries go, the Battery Daddy is a cool product. It stores your batteries of all sizes and it also has a tester which is awesome! It's in the "as seen on TV" section at my Walmart. I give it a big 👍 and thank you for your video 👍
This video was very motivating - thanks for making it!
I love that you deliver practical advice!! And what brand is your toaster oven?? :)

Hi I’ve been inspired by your organization tips for the kitchen, actually cleared 80% of my kitchen counters Thx
love this video, inspiring and motivating. Thank you!
You are FANTASTIC. I loved your description of boxes & what they were originally for. I never looked at it that way.
Your hair looks amazing
You've really got me working on decanting. We had a pantry built in and its a great space but I get so overwhelmed when I open the doors to its out of control looks, no labels and just messiness! I feel amazed with your labels, and containers, it give me a zen vibe 😊
How do you know best used by dates?

Light Bulb - floors Are a flat surface.....oh, yeah, i never thought about that!!!🤯 But I will Now👍👍👍
I wish I had the space to put away my appliances but we live in a manufactured home and we do not have a pantry or lots of big spaces to store items like other people so my counters have to stay full with all the appliances, there is not other place to hide them, but your tips are great...
Store them in the oven ??
I do not mind having my everyday appliances on my counter just because neither I nor my husband will do additional work to bring it in and out every time🤷🏻♀️ Also, I will probably forget about them at some point. Another thing, I actually got some discomfort when my counter was empty (I tried to put everything away) I am very visual and hate closed storage😅
Thank you, Kallie. I appreciate all you do for your viewers!
Glad to see I'm not the only one who puts the toaster away in a cupboard!
Thanks! Keep your kids picking up to. They will learn how hard it is to pick up and do better at putting it where it goes to start with .The kids each have their on box by the door at end of the day it has be empty
Thank you so much for your life changing tips! 🎉😊
