- Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Petr Yan has done his first official interview since the announcement of his upcoming fight at UFC 280 with rising sensation Sean O'Malley.
The Russian believes that he does not need to do much to promote this fight, but instead simply focus on winning.
The highly anticipated matchup surprised fans upon it's announcement as it is seen as a huge step up for the popular yet relatively untested Sean O'Malley.
Petr Yan is widely considered to be one of the best fighters in the entire sport.

Dude for real, like he has never fought in a three rounder before or something. He’s obviously going to train and prepare for the fight with that in mind. I can not wait for this fight, I just wish it wasn’t so far out
On top of that: He had a big 1st Round against Aldo, he knocked down Aljo/won the 1st round of their first fight, and he arguably won the 1st round of their second fight (Imho he should’ve won that round, but it was definitely super close).
He’s only lost one 1st round since he’s been in the UFC, and that was against Sandhagen - And even that round was close.

1:20 it most definitely is. At least in the USA I 've found more people are excited about Petr Yan vs Sean O Malley than the Dillashaw/Sterling fight.
It's a huge fight for sure. Plus I haven't noticed Sterling or Dillashaw doing much to promote their fight so far.

This fight is a very interesting matchup. Petr has great timing and is a tactician in the cage, while Sean has good footwork and feints which lead to his counter attacks. Yan is most likely going to win but anything can happen in MMA.
Agreed! At first it seems like a huge miss match but the more you think about it the more interesting it gets. If Petr starts slow again he's playing a risky game in a 3 round fight.
Bet everything you own it will be a fifteen minute fight. Any money left, bet on Yan to win the decision. Then borrow some money and bet neither man will get finished.

for a striker Yan has stellar wrestling and TDD, like I said, for a striker. Anyways at least now he shouldn't have to worry about the grappling in this fight. Yan should win this but I doubt it'll be as easy as some may think it will be.
It should be an interesting match up for sure! I'm curious to see if we'll see any grappling at all.
This is imo going to be a good fight for both, Petr seems to have a cloud in his head that I don't think has cleared properly and that's based on his 2 Aljo fights, seemed like he wasn't fighting Alho but fighting himself. O'Malley this is a big jump and serious heat, I think he's got it in him but we saw in the Cheeto fight he gets a bit flustered with good pressure. I like both fighters and a 3 round is good as I think it bring fireworks to the fight.

The thing is with Sean, he's already a big enough draw that just winning a fight or two will push him back into conversations for big fights. He's too big of a star to fight low level guys on the prelims now.

What’s funny is O’Malley technically started fighting in the UFC before Yan did. O’Malley first fight was March ‘18 Yan first fight was June ‘18. That being said Yan fought in in a Russian mixed martial arts and won the bantamweight title there but the point is Sean’s been in the UFC for four years now. USADA suspension aside I think the UFC didn’t want another Sage Northcutt situation but I think they’re overdoing it and probably at the expense of Sean in the process. We will see come 280 though

Sean is a good fighter but he was too long laying back on lower class fighters and making money. I respect the hustle, but that might play it's game with him when he meets a top-3 guy. It'll be interesting. Respect to the Yan he's making moves no one did. Ignoring champ going for harder fight. Then going without a corner to a champ fight.
