People write it off cause he didn't finish emmett but emmett has the head of a fire hydrant hes been tkod once i think but otherwise hes really durable and its notable ilia said he had to respect the power of josh emmett more than volk or max and i think hes right. But i like that teep to the thigh max was doin against gathje to stop the forward momentum and i think thatll serve him well to keep it in the outside boxing range where i do think he can piece up ilia

Ilia is a beast, but my money would be on Holloway in a fight between the two of them. After the Gaethje and Korean Zombie fight you can't say Holloway doesn't have some power.

This fight was extremely high level. Ilia's boxing is probably the best in the UFC. Also anyone who thinks Volk should retire is out their mind. He looked fluid and confident up until the knockout.

The power in that right hook was ridiculous
The one thing ilia does perfectly is when he throws a combo knowing that he can ko you. He simply does not reset between combos. I think this catches alot of his opponents out. They expect him to throw a 4 hit combo and reset, thats what most people do. in tern all ilia does is get close throw a setup combo. Pause half a second to make the opponent think to reset then slam them with another combo. Absolutely brilliant and it had worked almost all of his fights.
Ilia Vs Max needs to happen. There is no other fight the UFC has to make. That fight is a must.
This fights crazy because Volk wins 99% of the fight up until he lets Ilia get close. Ilia has the cleanest inboxing of any fighter in the UFC, and it'll be extremely interesting to see him against Holloway, who has the best outboxing in the UFC.

I don't see him winning the first round clearly. Ilia gives him the best kick and dodges his punches well.

4:30 The dude literally said My turn will come.That was some confidence 🔥🔥. He wasn't feeling the pressure of fighting Volk at all. Cool, calm, composed and Volk didn't want to engage at all. That was a dominant victory for Topuria.

Topuria is a case study for boxers looking to go into MMA. But it requires years of conditioning your legs to take kicks and have excellent grappling.
Thank God he missed with the left hook. The right hand was devastating enough. Had the left landed, I don't think Volk would've have woken up for few minutes. Ilia is scary.

@@RED115 McGregor got caught with an overhand by an even worse striker because when someones grappling is so strong, it completely messes with your head. So saying he got kicked in the head by a grappler is just pointless. Islam's takedown's can be in the head of Volk 24/7 which gives him a massive advantage for other types of attacks. Volk has to have like 40/50% of his brain power on thinking about takedowns whilst Islam really doesn't need to worry about it in the slightest.

Topuria did really good at getting Volk cornered. Volk is really elusive, but Topuria almost used it against him. He cut him off and stepped inside when Volk would switch stances. Gave Volk no options but to back up into the fence. Genius move and great patience to execute that.

I love how Bisping, Rogan and Anik only point out Alex's striking and hits and mostly ignore Topurias, lol!!! Then Alex get's floored and it's OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Hahahaa blinded by bias. And I love Alex and Ilia.
It's really not being biased. Alex did have a great start if you look at the scoreboard, Alex won 1st round and was having a great round 2. Landing most of his kicks and busting topuria's nose with those jabs, but Topuria just needed a single clean connection for that knockout.
volk won the first round maybe he wasnt landing the biggest shots but he was landing more often and more accurately until the ko

Sounds to me like you lean too much on the topuria side tbh. Volk was getting the better of him. Was still competitive, but the commentary was literally fine.
Left hook from Pereira and right hook from topuria is very successful in ufc
Man, Ilia fed off the energy of the crowd. They started chanting his name shortly before the KO. He shifted gears a bit and went for it and made it happen right then, so cool :)

the strategy of high volume kicking from volk wasnt a bad idea, especially against a boxer, but I think he was lacking any tools to relieve some of Topuria's pressure that ultimately led to the KO. I think if Volk threw in some more teeps, sidekicks, or even more jabs he would've had way less trouble with some of that boxing pressure
When he got caught against the fence instead of just shooting for a takedown coz he got trapped, he decided to try and be ready to counter and it's so annoying man. He lets his ego get in the way too much. Just shoot for a damn takedown. Topuria is that guy. Give him the respect and just make the right move stop trying to outbox him when you're in a tricky spot.

While I was looking back this fight I put the playback speed to 0.25 and I couldn´t understand how Ilia could generate so much power to that right hook from that position (He didn´t turn his hips or his torso completely)... But then I saw Volk turning his head right into his hook while he was trying to throw his own right hook. That was the added power to that punch from Ilia

i don’t remember it being this competition, i went to watch it in person and it felt so much shorter, volk actually had some good body kicks and leg kicks
even some good body kicks, it was a little hard at first for ilia to close the distance. you can tell that would frustrate anybody else but ilia stayed patient

A good fight while it lasted. The damage Ilia was doing the the leg, and how close he was getting with the overhand during the first round was spelling doom right away. Too bad Volk couldn't adjust.
What Khabib said before really shows wisdom.
