I own the XCA version. That's because I ride on a lot of dirt back roads & I'm 6'4" so I don't have any seat height issues. I agree with everything you say & would like to add that the lights work pretty good at night, the fog lights work well with one's peripheral vision. Great all round bike, yes you pay a premium, but it's quality. If I lived in the UK I'd be tempted to buy the XR rather than the XC. I also lowered the gearing further swopping the 16 for a 15 tooth front sprocket (3%) & added bar risers. Why because I ride up the dirt equivalent of Hardknott Pass in the Lake District regularly, with camping gear. It didn't seem to affect fuel consumption and adds about 300rpm on the freeway.

Very nice review. Been watching and learning all I can as I am drawn to the Tiger. Not because of the Netflix "Tiger King" well almost, but the road worthiness of the xr version and its beauty.
My 2018 Tiger xrx with full luggage to be delivered Mon 5/18/20. Can't wait. btw my bike has 703 miles. Sweet blue.

I think I would look at the Ducati 950 , I own a triumph 1050 sport and love it. I don't like the scaffolding for panniers the Ducati has a similar system to my bike which doesn't use scaffolding for the panniers. Triumph need to keep an eye on pricing sales will drop if they don't stay reasonable.

Having previously owned a Tiger Trail with on road/off-road capability I'd definitely go for the XCA/XCH variants. Never see the point in getting anything bigger, especially if you want to go off road. Definitely do that here in Australia. Like screen, handguards, centrestand. Only thing missing is shaft drive. I had that on a R80GS.

Thank you so much for the video. That is a wonderful bike (and that colour is fantastic!). It seems Triumph have done their homework for this model with improvements everywhere it's needed. In particular the screen and the engine spin up. I really like as well that Triumph offer a Tiger model with fully adjustable suspension,as they should on a top model. I don't understand people who would buy a bike at this price without (cough BMW F850GS cough).

Been riding this bike for just over a year. 12 thousand Km in the Austrian Alps and Italian Dolomites. Can’t fault it really. I make multi camera videos of most of my trips and I have rented many other models around the world as part of that. The Tiger triple engine is the only one that doesn’t give me vibration problems with mounted cameras. Also has the best wind protection of any bike I’ve ridden. Can ride at any speed with visor open in a bubble of calm 😁👍

Another excellent review Mark, mighty obliged good sir! On your less than perfect roads which motorcycle offers a plusher/smoother ride on road, this Tiger XRT 800 or the V-Strom 650 you recently reviewed? I’m an older motorcycle operator riding the California backroads. Sometimes I like exploring and putting around narrow twisty less traveled roads at 15-30 mph, is the Tiger XRT suitable for low speed work or is it overly top heavy. I want a motorcycle more refined and freeway friendly than a Kawasaki KLR 650 enduro, hence I’ve got either the Tiger XR 800 or V-Strom 650 XT as my next ride.

Cruise, automatic turn signals, the windshield, heated seat all work beautifully. I do wish Triumph would upgrade its heated grips to BMW standards but I have nothing bad to say about the xrt. As much as I love the Aesthetics of sport bikes I absolutely love practicality of the SRT. Nice video. I traded my 2017 XRT in for an Africa Twin, as I was seduced by the character of the Honda 2-cylinder engine (really is quite a lovely hooligan bike). But I am now considering trading the Africa Twin back in for a 2018 XRT. The Triumph has to be one of the very best all-round bikes. It’s so well specced out of the factory, and there isn’t really anything it doesn’t do well, apart from hardcore off-road.

Nice Review, looking into getting either the 800 or 1200 XR series (Depending on Budget), also if the 800's were shaft driven I would not even be considering the 1200. Yes I am now tired of chain maintenance, mainly due to the fact that I don't have the space to do much servicing and to doing it on the street side before every longish ride is annoying. Anyways enough rambling, what I really would like to see is a review of the 800 (or 1200) that also focuses on the experience when doing full day rides at least with a passenger, the seating positions etc. All the reviews I have seen are for single person ride how great the handling and comfort is, but to be fair I can manage 500 km for the day if I am alone on my naked bike but with a passenger then it becomes work instead of play after 150 aprox. If any one has a link to any reviews of the Tiger's that points out the riding experience with a passenger that would be great.

Thanks for the comment hopefully someone will comment soon on longer rides with a passenger on this bike , personally I find the only bikes that are effortless with a passenger for long rides are the likes of pan European ,fjr 1300 , triumph trophy 1200. All the best mark

I love this Bike : fantastic Tiger 800 XRT : it is in my top 3 dream bikes to upgrade my lovely CB500X, but i will never buy one! its way to much expensive! In Canada, price is : 18 000 $ Canadian. Are you serious Triumph ? You will tell me that the XRX & the XR are cheaper: true, but harder to sell when they are used. In Canada : Triumph Tiger 800 XR is 13500 $ & Tiger 800 XRX is 15500$. They both are also to much expensive. The new interesting KTM 790 Adventure price in Canada is 13500$. The new great Guzzi V85TT is 13990$. So Triumph Canada need to lower their prices or they wont sell much Tiger 800 in 2019.

Triumph it has so around the world /I think/. In middle Europe is the price 15000 euros, but for this price you can buy KTM 1290SAS. Tiger 1200 is expensive as well, compatitive with price only to Ducati MTS 1260S.

Yamaha Tracer 900 is 12000$ Can. & Tracer 900 GT is 14600$ Can.: nice sport touring bikes.
BMW & Triumph adventures bikes always have very expensive options kit to became interesting.
im not surprise why CB500X are so popular : great value for the money; excellent quality/price; the new upgraded & improved 2019 at 8000$ Can. its a good deal.

I'm from Texas considering buying this bike. Would have appreciated if you opened the throttle a little more since here in Texas 60 - 70 miles per hour is a thing of the past. I own a cruiser 1300 and 80 - 100 is not that uncommon around here. Would like to see how this bike behaves at close to that speed. My cruiser has a little too much vibration at over 90, perhaps the fairing has to do with it. Otherwise, great video.

@Leon Jennings - I know that you have probably already purchased your next bike by now, but I cannot recommend the Tiger 800 highly enough. Having spent 12 years on various BMW R1200 GSA’s, I decided that at 74 I needed a lighter bike. I had a loan F850 for some time but felt it was too off-road focused for my taste. I tried the Triumph and fell in love with it. I describe it as the biggest “small” bike I could find - whereas the F850 just felt like a small bike! Once broken in, (past the 600 miles break- period) the rev counter turns to black. It's orange and red during break-in to help the rider not over-rev it. Had the same thing on my Tiger 1200, a nice feature.

I'd like to see you review the latest top spec Honda Africa twin as word is it's a great adventure touring bike designed primarily with genuine off road abilities out of the box, and as a secondary use, good on the road too(as you'd expect). No need for multiple variations depending on the weather like this, which I find confusing and unnecessary. If I buy any adventure tourer I want it to do it all from the get go as opposed to being a looky likey multi variant fashion item. Meow. Having said that I do like these triumphs but the honda, chain drive aside, is superb I've heard.

I test drove that exact same model and thought it vibrates quite a lot and requires a lot of RPM to really have power. I couldn't see myself doing 200km on it as on the 30 minute ride i had i already felt uncomfortable with it... Too much noise too. It looks superb and it has noticeable quality, but i much rather go with a F750GS.
