    Bit of a late comment, but I got to ride an 800 xrx yesterday (my Tiger 1200 was in for a service and the 800 was a courtesy bike). Now I love my 1200xrt, I know its big and heavy, but it's fast and surprisingly agile through the twisties. However, after riding the 800 yesterday, I seriously wondered if I bought the right model. The 800 was just so rideable - light, quick and easy to flick about. I rode the same stretch of road on the two bikes yesterday, and while the 1200 was just effortlessly faster everywhere, the 800 was, and I almost hate to say it, more enjoyable. I won't be trading in my 1200 as I enjoy doing long tours on it, but I'd advise anyone thinking of the 1200 to have a ride on the 800 first - it's cheaper to buy and run, and you may just like it a whole lot more!

      Couldn’t agree more! I test rode both the 1200 & 800 and have just bought an XRX 800. Panniers & top box were included in the price, so got a fairly good deal.

      once fully loaded with luggage and a pillion, i feel it wouldn't have the power to even overtake comfortably? I only ride with the mrs and luggage going on tours.

    TMF, NO-MEN-CLA-TURE, as my old mate JimmyBob from America now living in Glasgow would say. Sadly, Jimmy passed away in his sleep last Saturday. RIP JimmyBob. We had a deal, if i went first he would get my R100S, if he passed, I inherited his set of hand made knives. Sound review and as you said Triumph are really stepping up to the plate in terms of build quality and range of machines. Thanks for sharing. A82 Joe.

    I'm really pleased you managed to review this bike. Many of us on here I'm sure, use your reviews to compare our experiences with yours. I ordered my new 800 back in Nov after I saw it at the NEC. It's the XRX Low version which arrived in April and I've since put 2,500 miles on the clock. It's an absolute pleasure to ride as your review shows. It has everything I could want in a mid-size touring/adventure style bike. The Triple engine is really great and the bike comes equipped with many features that are optional extras on other bikes in the same price bracket. Another Triumph for...well Triumph.

    I like the Tiger. The frame work and such gives it that Mad Max type of feel. If I was in the market, I'd give this one a test ride for sure. Good job, Flyer!

    Asked my local dealer for a test ride on the XRX, they don't have one so they offered me a test ride on their new 800 XRT. Went out on it today. I am in love.
    Easily the best bike I have ever ridden, fits me like a glove and is so smooth and refined. The heated seat kept my arse nice and warm too, lol and what a luxuriously squidgy and comfortable seat it is. Seriously couldn't fault the bike, gorgeous TFT screen and so many options, handguards amazing, felt no cold on my hands (and it was bloody cold today), mirrors great, windscreen is superb hardly any noise and no buffeting, super slick gearbox, extremely comfortable and just all round stunning.
    Sadly about 4k above what I can afford. The search continues for a used 2016/17 XRX

    I've ridden this machine 3 times (1 time wet, 2 times dry) and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. As soon as my payments are done for my Street Triple (3 years D':) I will be buying one for everyday use. Such a beautiful bike. I can't fault it.
    Thanks for the video! Hope you had fun on the machine.

    I bought a 2016 XRT after watching your review of the previous XRT followed up by a lengthy test ride. I'm still in love with it after nearly two years ownership and its been a great all round bike for a daily commute and trips to Europe. The engine is a beauty. Lovely and smooth with fantastic torque. Other than a failed battery and a disagreement with an old lady reversing her car into it, its been trouble free. I do agree that the area in front of the handlebars is a bit of an eyesore but at least the new screen looks like its solved the problems of my poorly designed one (my biggest gripe). I do think the new colour schemes are a step back though. I love my candy apple red one. I'd love to see you do a review riding from Amersham to Hazlemere (but only because it was my commute thirty odd years ago)!

      I had a 2015 roadie and liked the bike bgut sold it due to the short gearing. Always felt stressed even in 6th gear. Why they didn't stretch the gears out and make a more relaxed cruise rpm is beyond me. I don't think this bike solves that problem since only 1 st gear was changed.

    Hi from California and thanks for yet another great and entertaining review! As it happens, I just sat on one of these at my local dealer and was pleasantly shocked at how light and accessible it felt - just as you say. I love my Street Cup, but for the long hauls it’s awful! This guy seems to be begging for me to take one home. Almost afraid to test ride! Ride safe, sir!!

    Been riding this bike for just over a year. 12 thousand Km in the Austrian Alps and Italian Dolomites. Can’t fault it really. I make multi camera videos of most of my trips and I have rented many other models around the world as part of that. The Tiger triple engine is the only one that doesn’t give me vibration problems with mounted cameras. Also has the best wind protection of any bike I’ve ridden. Can ride at any speed with visor open in a bubble of calm 😁👍

    Not a pretty bike in IMHO, but perhaps one of the most practical and safest bikes to have. I went from a R1200RT to one of these, a year earlier. I was very impressed with how high Triumph specs are. The triple engine is amazing, but I didn’t like the sound, even with an Arrow can, so I went on to a T120. Great bike though and good review thank you. Pete

    I test rode this bike yesterday, and I was very impressed. I was looking at the 850gs but that is too high and just as heavy as its big brother!! I found that under the seat gets hot on the Tiger, also as you said blurry mirrors. And I found turbulent air which was uncomfy. But a lot going for it so this is (probably ) the bike I buy next August. Just exspensive for what you get, and luggage is £1200 extra and is made by givi.

    Really good bike. Know a guy who went around the world on one...
    I tried b4 getting my last bike and to b honest I thought it was a bit underpowered. Sounds like the 2018 cures this somewhat but still not convinced. The issue also is, there are waaay too many of these bikes around. They just don't feel special. Good practical, sensible bikes though. Great 2nd hand buy.

    Hello again MissendenFlyer,
    Congratulations for your test!
    I already tried this bike and I confess that I did not like the whole at all. (I really like the Tiger 800 from 2011 until 2016 - for me these are a true classic). The new Tiger has things that I did not like like: the driving position (which for me is aggressive), the vibration that now has the handlebar (after driving the hands had them without blood), the engine sound (has a rare "clak"). Another thing more the consumption of this motorcycle seems to me too much.
    I'm not saying that I´m nostalgic. I like technology and the new. What I want to say that for my taste this bike does not fit me.
    I really congratulate the people of Triumph because they are doing very well. And they offer a lot of variety and quality to bikers ......

    Hi, nice videos you have! Thinking of upgrading my 2009 v-strom 650. Biggest complaints are brakes and suspension. I once tried the 2014 v-strom 1000, big diference in engine and breaks, road pavement was good, so can't say much about suspension. Tried too a tiger 800 xrx, what i remember the most is how plush the suspension was. At the end of the short ride during a moto show, I intentionally passed over every hole and bump I could find and almost didn't feel them. Very comfortable!
    How would you compare these regarding suspension in bad pavement and ease of use filtering city traffic?
    Best regards!

    Glad to see you did a review of this bike. Two questions for you or anyone who can answer.
    1) In your opinion does the new Yamaha Tracer GT compete, or are they in different classes (only care about the road, no off-roading)?
    2) It is very hot where I live, how is the engine heat coming off this newly designed bike?

    13C ! No wonder you said nothing about the engine heat. My test was in 29 C heat and left me near heat stroke. Wind protection is too effective for the city. Maybe an easily removable screen like the Harley Roadking would be better if you also use it for commuting. Lovely lovely lovely bike, though. Really enjoyed it.

Or even a 2016 VFR800X (25.000km) or a 2015 MT09 Tracer. Or perhaps a F800GSA. About same price - fully equipped, service etc

    The minute Triumph fit the tiger 1050 sport with the TFT screen and put the cruise control on the left like on this new tiger 800, ill be breaking down the door for one!! Its the only 2 things putting me off getting a 1050 sport sooner, its the last "modern" bike in the triumph range i believe that still has the old clocks/dash, and having the cruise button on the throttle side it just a bit daft... so im hoping the tiger sport gets these updates for march 2019!!!?

    Very good review, and I'm curious about the equipment you use for sound recording in your helmet, do you use the GoPro and mic adapter? Which mic do you use?
    You can hear both the engine and your talk very well and the wind noise is not disturbing, like it :-)

    I've had my older 800 for a couple years now. Agree with you that the engine power is plenty. I don't know why anyone would need the 'big' one unless 2-up and much luggage. Seat and windscreen on the previous model were both rubbish and the cruise control is highly desirable here in the US. Sounds like Triumph has done some worthwhile improvements without mucking it up. Excellent!

    I love the looks of Triumph's retro bikes and for some reason I also like the decidedly un-retro looks of this bike too.
    I guess maybe I'm just a Triumph fanboy.

    Also a very interesting bike and therefore on my list if I need to change my current bike or if I should have enough money to buy another.
    Totally agree about bike power needed.
    You need a big joystick on the fuel tank in stead of the tiny one on the left handle 😋

    Nice review, I had the 2011 spoked wheel version a few years ago and loved it, so if they’ve improved an already good bike that’s a good thing. Out of interest what version of GoPro camera are you using, I’m looking to upgrade my old one very soon.

      C Huzz I've got a 34" inside leg and found the XC variant more comfortable as it has marginally taller suspension (and higher bars, bit you can have risers fitted for the XR the dealer assures me).

    I have been waiting for this review for some time TMF .Another great review i must say.On a lot of your reviews you do on bikes around the 800cc,you always say that you think its more than enough power for every day riding.Be honest is it really?Would you swap your GS for a bike with less power.I dont think you would?

    • @TheMissendenFlyer
      @TheMissendenFlyer  6 років тому +3

      If I were buying now I genuinely think I would - I'm not a power junkie hence why I bought the Panigale 899 rather than the 1299, the Street Triple rather than the Speed Triple.....both these "Little bikes" made more sense to me for road riding...

    Mr. Flyer- I visited this review which is a few months old; I enjoyed it a lot. I would ask two questions: First, is this XRt model usable on dirt roads and second, would you ever consider replacing your GS with this bike? Thanks, Bob

  • @hudsonrilke

    Haha white van convention. Nice allrounder bike. Expensive for the XRT though and I’d be too tempted by the speed triple. Great review.

    XRT = cross/road touring
    XCT = cross/country touring
    cross indicating it's road bias (not road only)..etc

    Hmm, may pop up to Palmers and get a test ride.
    When you come out of Ashridge, turn right instead of going left through Berkhampstead and you'll miss the traffic (unless you wish to test its filtering capabilities) and come out at the Tring A41 exit. It's quicker and a few more fast bends on the way. 👍

    Great video, love your work. I’m looking at the 800 once I pass my test at the end of next month! You rode the 800 XCA in a previous video and found the seat a bit uncomfortable. How would you compare the XCA seat or the XRT seat? 😊

      I think you were in Thailand ad you had done a long ride with a pillion who also said the seat was a bit hard. I’m just wondering which is the better bike for comfort for the road. I know the XRT is road focussed but let me know if you’d recommend looking at the XCA for travelling around Kent/London?!

    I would love to get to know this bike with all its bells & whistles .. It is $15350.00 here in the USA .. I tried last years XCx at our local dealer as a left over demo bike at a great price . I Liked it a lot but with a 29inch inseam I was happier with the XRx and happier still with the Street Scrambler .. Thanks for taking us for the ride .. It would be interesting to see the street version with a shaft drive ..(maybe adding too much wieght ).. All the best from the back roads of New ENgland ... yours Guy PS It has been since 1975 that I last saw a chain on a bike I've owned.. How about a chain cleaning oiling and adjustment clip :)

      TheMissendenFlyer - yes that’ll be two bikes in the “collection” (MT09 SP). The current Mrs G is far too tall for you TMF!! Anyway back to the point - what’s your view on the Tiger compared with the GS? Mind you BMW have a baby GS out and that too may warrant a look? Your views are very helpful and your vids are brilliant. Keep up the good work and ride safe.

  • @Bazza47
    @Bazza47 6 років тому

    Glad to hear they've improved on the old 1 MF as it didn't really excite me when I rode it so it could be a contender should I ever decide to get something smaller than my GS. I like the changes they've made to the looks around the tank and that can looks far nicer than other stock cans I've seen though I agree they should have done something with the area round the TFT screen to cover the backs of the lights etc. as it makes the bike look unfinished. I assume that silly safety label on the screen come off as that would drive me bonkers having it in my eyeline all the time? Also being the top model does it have a quick shifter as IMO that really is a must have now. Great review as always.

      C Huzz - After riding sport bikes and other scary machines for the last few months, today I rolled out my ‘15 ‘Strom for a ride. It was like slipping on a favorite pair of slippers, hugging’ my dog and bumping into an old buddy. Nope, the ‘Strom is a keeper, it’s one of those things that’s too easy to take for granted.

      Walter Wilkins Yeah, I know, mine is 10 years old and it’s still a brilliant, comfy, versatile thing that fits me like a glove plus no one wants to steal it. I really should look at a newer strom at the same time as the Triumph.
