How to assemble qa B20 bottom end step-by-step. Purchased an eBay rebuild kit to fix our smoking Honda CRV. I’m not a professional engine builder. This is a video I made to help others as a reference guide and to have fun. Refer to a repair manual for any unclear information or for different applications.

Stayed tuned for Part 2 installing the Head, timing belt and valve lash adjustment
Thank you so much for the video because of the video, I decided to do it myself to my car and everything came out great thank you so much again.
Adolfo Gutierrez you’re welcome! I’m glad this video gave you the motivation and confidence to do it.
How is it running? I just got my block and head ready to start tackling this thing!
Great video now I can a B20 with confidence
You can do this!
Looking Sweet sir!!!
Thank you! I’m proud that I was able to get it done finally.
Don't forget our Thrust washers!! :O
Great video Brother!!!!
Keyani Mac thanks dude! Means a lot to me
I have a b20a is this still a good vid to watch and go back to since I am rebuilding my engine
Great job, keep it up
Big Maque thanks buddy! Can’t wait to finish up the 2nd half of the rebuild video.
My rod bearing holes dont match perfectly, was it the case woth this build? Thanks
Appreciate the video 🤘🏽🤘🏽
nice job, im about to start doing the same for my girls crv lol
Milton G have fun with it! It’s taken me a lot longer than expected to get it up and running but with lots of projects, full time job and with a child it’s hard to do it quick. Take your time and do it right!
What is the clearance for rods with platigage? Thanks for video, i may have missed it. .0015 all for is ok?
Yes that fine. I’ll have to look up the specs in the repair manual and get back to you on exact numbers
@@MooreProjects is the engine still running strong?
@@chumbucket6926 yes still my wife’s daily driver
I cringed when you started beating the wrist pins😅
Hecks_ B_Rex trust me I did too. Luckily I was able to salvage them. Already put 3500 miles on the rebuild as of today
@@MooreProjects Nice! if there would of been a failure would of happened long ago.👍🏾
Hecks_ B_Rex I agree. Can’t really knock on the eBay parts. They work lol. The only ebay parts I didn’t use was the rear main seal and the headgasket. I used Felpro
Background music is not necessary ‼️💥💥💥
Did you have and issues with you oils hole on the rod not lining up with the d18 bearings they sent.
Not at all
Great video bro.
moose1875 thank you! I always appreciate any feedback on my videos
Good video but weren’t you suppose to gap the rings.. like push the rings down the cylinder and check the gap and file the rings if necessary?
You are correct. I didn’t check the gap of the rings. I wish I would have. But I have put 10,000 miles on the engine and just did a dry compression test on it last week and it has 130psi on all cylinders. So they are still doing good. But if I were to do another rebuild I would definitely check the gap on the rings
@@MooreProjects thanks for being honest… my b20 is doing 149psi all cylinders with 190k.. I was going to rebuild mines but I heard that’s a really good number.. thank you for the great info I’ll be sure to save this video for my rebuild You where really detailed keep it up 👍🏼
@@mosesgonzalez3883 yeah you can run it down to 120psi without issues. Below that would be time for rebuild. At 150psi I wouldn’t be in a hurry to rebuild it
Nice vid bro... 430 subs awesome ...
Thanks man! I’m soo happy for all the subscribers I have so far!
Ii know this is a very old video but by chance how many hrs were put into this rebuild?
No clue. I worked on it for about 6 months. Maybe 30min to an hour at a time before going to work my full time job. If I had to guess probably around 12 hours or so. Did a bolt or a gasket here and there. It was worth it. My wife still drives it daily
Did you pick up the whole Evergreen rebuild kit off of eBay/Amazon? I’m looking at getting the Evergreen or DNJ to rebuild a b18 soon and can’t find much good about them. Most complaints were about the timing belt and like the one below, bearings not lasting.
I have a feeling piecing together and full kit would be pretty cost prohibitive. I’m only doing the rebuild for hobby purposes and I don’t know the engine history at all.
I used the entire kit from eBay. Minus the rear main seal and the head gasket. I used a felpro head gasket and rear main. Everything has been doing great for us. I’ll do an update video for you. We’ve had it running for over a year and 10,000 miles so far
I had a bad experience with Domestic valve and crank bearing. Both went bad after 8 thousand miles.
Fingers crossed this doesn’t happen to me. We are right around the 8k mile mark on the rebuild now
Buen video el honda b20b lindo motor 👍
Gracias
Have you got it done yet was just wondering if you had any problems with the parts are anything
No problems whatsoever. We’ve already put 5000 mile on the rebuild in the CRV
@@MooreProjects cool
Michael just hit 10,000 miles. No issues. Going to do an update video soon
Great vid to watch. But the music, seems so out of place. Thank u for the efforts!
Thanks. I tried to make it more fun at least.
@@MooreProjects just giving a lil dig, no harm meant. The content is right on and much appreciated.
Do any parts need to be swapped out for JDM vs USDM motors? I ready something somewhere about needing to swap the fuel pumps/oil pans.
If you bought a JDM engine then you need to swap oil pumps with a USDM one so that you can use the Crankshaft Position Sensor. Or you can use it like it is and do a Crank Sensor bypass at the ECU. There is two wires you have to jump. Doesn’t effect how it runs either
@@MooreProjects I have to change the oil pan anyways and have the USDM car i’m swapping this engine into with a good pan so I’ll just change the pump to USDM. Are there any other parts to swap or look out for?
@@masonday__ if you have the tall intake, then I would suggest changing intakes to the 99-00 from the b20z2. Better torque. Other than that everything else is the same.
@@MooreProjects I appreciate it! These videos were super helpful
hi, what size are the cylinders ground to for the new pistons
They were honed so they are the factory sizes 75mm
So what’s the point of the plastigauge?
Plastigage is more of a reference. All I used it for was to make sure it compressed and had a slight amount of clearance and not too tight. Since they were aftermarket bearing I was using instead of Honda bearing. So far no issues whatsoever. Very satisfied.
Will this kit work with a regular b20b low compression ?
Yes it will
For b20vtech torque spec is that same as nonvtect
Fhonzy luis Garcia yes. 22ft lbs first and then 65ft lbs next
Ever thing is great except the loud music in back ground .
How many miles have been put on since?
I need to do an update video soon. We’ve put 10k miles on it so far! Not a single issue yet!
Is this the same for the A5?
ritchie owen I’ve never done any rebuild on the hondas other than the d series and the b20 in this video. I would think it would be very similar for sure. 90% of this video would apply. The main difference would be the torque on the bolts
@@MooreProjects cool, thanks man I got this B20A5 I want to get cleaned up an rebuild for my 88 Honda Prelude
ritchie owen hell yeah dude that’s old Skool
What are the odds
Let me know when you need a turbo lol
the oil pan bolt torques are bull shit they should offer a standard none sealant needed version of the gasket.
Christopher Martin I believe you only need to add sealant at 4 spots. On both sides of the crankshaft portions of the oil pan. I’ve noticed that most of the oil pans get over torqued very easily and that’s why they always leak.
i'd like to ask you question could you send me a facebook request zachariah morris
What I’m doing
Enjoy the process. Take your time and do it right
