Flying an A6M2, good fun right? ._.
Probably my worst video, but the A6M2 is just extremely situational and kinda annoying to fly.

Fun fact : The Stealth belt for the 20mms have double the explosives of the Tracers.

@@cainthegreat3056 Yes, I switched from Tracer to Stealth and I can say the amount of ammo needed to down per plane has dropped by about 2/3. Never going back to tracer.
I bought it yesterday with a 50% off, and in the first 6 games I had a 20/0 K/D haha, great aircraft with the highest SL reward in game

I bought the 109 F4 on USA and I already am 9k/2d it's a nice aircraft too bad it doesn't have gun pods, thinking about getting the Zero too, should I?
This plane is Akutan Zero, the A6M that crash-landed in Alasca and was captured and repaired by US, which helped them to develop tactics against japanese fighters. Some historians say that this aircraft significantly sped up Japan's defeat
@PBJMan Even then, they still learned a lot from accounts of USN pilots flying the outmatched Wildcats against them.
What historians? Source?
Plane was found on Akutan island in a chain of Aleutian islands, so both names are correct. Also the tactics american pilots used after, such as steep dives and high speed rolls were correct as Zero had float-type carbourator and it's ailerons were very poor at speeds above 370 KPH

It is explained in post #8, we are talking about early A6M2 version, which couldn't do neg G maneuvers without losing engine power, wrong carburetor installation doesn't change that fact
One of my favorites. (The Zero's in general, don't own the premium.) I set convergence at 200. Climb to 4.5k, hunt xp-50's and 55's. When the boom and zooms fail, they always run too the deck or stupidly try to stick through a turn or two. Once altitude is clear, jump down and join the furball if it's still going or use the height to pounce on stragglers. Patience is key. It's just a different playstyle imo, there is a mind game going on as well as the mechanics of the game.
This plane is more fun in mixed battles. Because there are no markers, enemy pilots will often turn before they know what you are, then it's too late!

It is fun to play the a6m2 and yes 400 meter convergence works very well, also best chance to kill an faster enemy after dodging is in the first turn immediately. Thanks for the video!
Tip: set the gun convergence to 200m, only shoot at that distance with the cannons, and above that use the 7mm to cause panic in the enemy, with stealth belts on it and ground target belts for the cannons

Solid tip, I usually run 300m in SB. The 7mm is a joke, only good for tickling the enemy forcing him to make a mistake

Actually I think Japanese guns are pretty good. I get a lot of wing and tail clips with the 7.7s and the 20mms got a pretty big he buff a bit back. Personally I love the Zero. Would recommend this plane.

I love flying this thing, but I struggle with the XP-50s. They always seem to have me outclassed despite the advantages the Zero has. They just boom n zoom me to death, basically. Any recommendations to deal with those?

nose counter them. basically when you see the nose of the enemy plane coming around, avoid the nose by turning above it. Works 90% of the time and most xp50 players are just 8 year olds who just had their mommy buy them the plane.

Gaijin is too inconsistent with the Zero's guns. One patch you can put 250 20mm rounds on a P-47 and get a crit, and right now you can snipe a Spitfire with the 7.7mm from a kilometre away. Constantly goes from frustrating to one-shot, quite bothersome.
I’ve never done major damage against allies with the 7.7’s, they always spark. I just use them to cause the enemy to maneuver

if they aren't playing it right yes. This thing is extremely easy to counter.
Get someone with decent aim and going below 350kph just means you get beamed.

Where do you guys set the cannon and machine gun on the keyboard? I have spacebar for both. Mouse 1 for look around and mouse 2 for zoom.
I shoot both with mouse 1
Zoom with mouse 2
Mg with 1 or scroll left
Cannons with 2 or scroll right

Defyn, its me again. I still dont know, how you guys set your keys...because i just seem to have not enough keys on my mouse (canons, mgs, the button too release the stearing from the mouse movements, rockets etc.) i would really like to know the settings of you or the other pro pilots 🤗
WSAD keys for (W) pitch down (S) pitch up, (A-D) roll left/right, (Q-E) left/right rudder, right mouse fire small caliber only, left mouse fire small+large caliber, middle mouse (cycle flaps combat-takeoff-landing-retracted), combat flaps (F), rockets (ctrl), bombs (left shift), C for mouse look, space to zoom in, and what do you mean by 'the button too release the stearing from the mouse movements'?

Why can't Gaijin make all 30 cals, 50 cals and 20mm work same, do the same damage. Guns are are only reason I hate playing Russian and Japanese planes.

I just discovered you can take the 2.3 a6m2 with floats and knock them off at spawn effectively making your 2.3 into a 3.7 plane.
It causes leaks. Not to mention high risk for clipping the prop. But otherwise yeah, it’s possible and kinda fun to attempt

Load universal on the 20mms: the non-tracer HEF rounds have much more explosive filler than th tracer ones. Helps with the damage a lot. The tracer belt is a trap.
These are still garbage, compared to MG151s or AN/M2s, or swedish 20mms

@@WigglyWings The long barrel type 99s are pretty good. I'm not a big fan of these short ones. The only thing they lack is firerate ( and thank god they're not hispanos)

The American captured premium A6M2 is one of the best planes in War Thunder! It earns silver lions at a much higher rate than other planes. If you set the prop pitch to 100% and close both radiators to 30% and slighlty side climb around 270 kph then you will be up there with the 109's most games and actually be able to boom n zoom then fall back on dogfighting as a last resort. I have flown this plane way more than any other and have my best KD in it. Also set convergence to 300m and only use the less accurate wing mounted cannons up close. The two nose mounted 7.7 machine guns are super accurate and reliable. They also have a good amount of ammo. I recommend using the 7.7's up to around 600m maybe a little more depending on the situation. People will start busting moves to avoid your little guns while getting in range of the big guns!

I really like this thing. I often take it into 5.7br battles (because I run it alongside the USMC F4U-4B) and I gotta say for having a pretty low BR it can outperform a decent amount of 4br+ fighters is most modes. I’ve won against P-51s and Corsairs alike with it fairly often. Sure the capacity is super low but when you’re going one on one with stragglers, chances are you’ll come out on top because of the maneuverability. As far as I can tell if you can hit your target with a decent burst with the cannons it’ll land a critical or just be a super quick kill right away.

I had this plane back when I played War Thunder (2013-14) before the developers managed to screw up joysticks so bad that I couldn't even get longer fuselage planes (such as the A-20 Havoc) off the ground because the controls decided to give full up elevator at low speed (like takeoff) causing ground strikes every time, even if I had no elevator controls mapped at all. This of course was a problem in trying to dogfight too, since when the plane slowed down, the elevators would decide I really needed full up deflection no matter what I tried to do in the settings.
"Flying" an aircraft by using a mouse cursor is a travesty to me, and I will not have any part in that. If I'm trying to fly a plane I want actual control. I care less about how other people "fly" their aircraft, but if I couldn't fly mine properly using a joystick control (I could only afford an X-box 360 controller at the time, so no HOTAS setup for me), it just wasn't worth playing.
I am just learning the A7M1 premium...It would be interesting if you had that to compare to the A6M2 since it seems to be a vastly superior plane, including a 644 kph top speed...The cannons although slow firing seem to have much greater hitting power and since I like bomber hunting that is a big plus...It is also not nearly as fragile as the A6M series...I don't think you would find it annoying to fly...
