I went grocery shopping Saturday night. I always check the refrigerated cooler that has the “reduced for quick sale” items. Saw a qt of buttermilk for .50 cents. As a frugal spend thrift, I grabbed it. I’ve never baked/cooked w buttermilk but knew I’d find recipes online. Then this just popped up! I think I’ll add coconut & nuts as a few have commented in the feed.
you give me confidence when i get overwhelmed with recipes. i watch preppy kitchen too but your channel gives wiggle room if i’m on a budget and need a quick easy meal because as a mom it’s more practical in my lifestyle. I just like your channel it’s cozy and comforting 🙂 mostly tasty !
Wow, now that method for pie crust, I have never seen or heard of before. You can use it with any pie recipe. Thank your mom and thank you for sharing. This is going to be a game changer. God Bless!
My favorite pie, my wife makes me one every year for my birthday. Hers has some lemon, and she dusts it with powder sugar and blueberries. Don't ever see it where I'm from otherwise.
I wish I could give this video 20 likes! I absolutely love the tip about using a spray bottle! I’m going to try this crust next time I make a pie 😁 we love buttermilk pie and I make it with a little shredded sweetened coconut and some small chopped pecans… so good! Thank you so much for this!
Your crust looks fabulous! I will have to try the spray bottle trick. I have made buttermilk pie for years. Never too old to learn a trick or two. Thanks for a great video.
Hi A.!!! Your Moms pie looks super yummy. I have never had this kind of pie. I'm going to give it a try for sure. Thanks for this recipe...Great Video!!!...🦋
Love the press in pie crust. Our grandmas used lard which crisco at some point replaced . Real lard is not easy to find anymore. It looks delicious like a custard somewhat. 👍🏻
This one is also one of my two favorites. Buttermilk and Coconut are my favorites. My aunt made the best Buttermilk Pies. My mother made the best coconut pies. Who doesn’t love pie ❤
Buttermilk pie is my favorite pie!! When I make it I add all of the ingredients to a blender - wet stuff first then dry stuff so it won’t stick to my blender. Works very well!! Yours looks amazing too!!
Mama, I have loved many of your recipes, but this one... I am SO looking forward to try! Buttermilk pie has been my favorite for decades! Luby's and Furrs (you're a Texas girl, you understand), have ✋️ selling. I NEED this in my life!

Yes! Luby's and Piccadilly was where we went since I was a kid. Piccadilly closed down years ago. 😩
I never heard of Buttermilk pie and my mom was from the south. That looks easy to make i will try it some day. What fruit gos will you put in it or on top 😊
I love this!! My grandma made the BEST pies, and her crust was the exact same Crisco recipe. I rarely eat the crust from store bought pies because I can't stand how hard, chewy, and thick are. We just had a bday for 2 family members, and one doesn't do cake, so we bought a pie, and I asked if anyone wanted my crust. They gasped and said, "You don't like the crust?" Well, not this crust because my grandma made the lightest, flakey, and yummiest crust and this one is dense, heavy, and tastes freezer burnt. 😂
Schools used to teach life skills, integrity, control and real history. Unfortunately that's no longer the case. Thank goodness we have mothers that pass it on.
I have a very old cook book that suggests using your clean fingers to mix in the shortening and flour--as the warmth of your fingers makes it a lighter fluffier crust.
What an awesome way to make pie dough. 😊 I have heard of buttermilk pie, but I never eaten it. Looks delicious 😋. Have you ever heard of tomato pie or oatmeal pie? Old southern pies. Thanks, Mama.

One of the best pastry crusts i used included shortning, + baking powder combined with the flour as well as ice water as needed. Recipe was on a can of HEB shortning
This looks so delicious and so easy to make. I noticed you didn't remove the nutmeg from its shell, was it already removed? Thank you so much for this recipe!

It has maybe a skin on it, but no shell. At least I don't think it's shell. 😬
This looks very delicious. I will definitely try making this. Looks very comforting. But I have a couple of questions. Could it be topped with whipped cream?? Or is it better to leave any topping out??

You can top it if you like. I usually don't, but you definitely should add what you like. 👍🏼

Home ec class is severely underrated. Without it I wouldn't have learned even half of the life skills taught to me. That pie looks so good!

Old enough to remember Home Ec being mandatory in middle school. Good teachers and skills stick with me. Now we have excellent teachers like you. 💫

I haven't had this since i was a little girl. Thanks for this recipe! Do you have one for egg nog pie?
I have to look. My mom gave me an old recipe box with tons of clippings and recipes.
Yummy! I’d use butter but it’s too hot. Sometimes you’ve gotta bust out that crisco.
Yummy
❤
Can you substitute Splenda for the sugar? This is my favorite pie.
You should be able to use it in equal amounts.🙂
Is this something you would put in the refrigerator if there are leftovers?
Yes. 😊
Just like apple pie
Hi, where can I find the recipe to print ?
@meletaking Tap the “more” just below the title
What does it taste like? I was thinking it was a lemon pie but you left out the lemon juice.
It's like a creamy custard. The lemon does add that hint of citrus.
Makes me wish I had a oven 😮

I have not, but it probably works. 👍🏼
You don't proof the pie crust?
No, but you probably can blind bake first.
