Yes we “well aged” gamers need our practice. Might sound boomery but I always have multiple saves for practice. Didn’t realize you are my peeps. I relisten to audio books, have played fallout 1 & 2 a dozenish times (more like 8 each), reload my civ startups, and f’in love survival saves. I’m 39 and appreciate your content. Give me some solo-only empty server Rust gameplay.I know you likely won’t but it would be awesome. Subbed for years (I think, but a while regardless) and liked as always

You Can host your own private rust server, So you can play solo, I have done it, sometimes for a little fun, Its refreshing to play and try out new base designs without worry of getting raided or killed etc, It does feel different though then being online... You can even change the map around in rust so its like a new playthrough each week or w/e. Practice the card puzzle, or oil rig etc.

@@FlashDAH Because it looks like one of the hundreds of asset flippers on Steam. They need to freshen out the UI to distinguish themselves from those, then it might actually get more traction and be noticed.
Found this game in February and made my BF play with me. It's rage inducing, but SO good. We ended up quitting like a week later when he swam in a cave under water and got killed by these giant bats and there was no way to get ALL his gear back before it despawned. Might have to go back to it eventually though.

Back to Subsistence! I love this game. For me, it's right up there with 7D2D as one of my favorite games to play.
The Hunters come into the world within 3 days of you placing your BCU. That's why you got the warning after you placed your BCU down.
I don't usually place my BCU for 3 or 4 days. Just to give me a little breathing room at the start of the game. You got a good start, Kage.
I love teasing the hunters XD its so fun stoping taking care of my farming to go steal theirs XD. I usually die 10 times and succeed 1 but good times
I started playing this game back when you there was no auto pickup on the wood logs and you had to look down and pick up every log individually. The grind is nostalgic lol

Don't forget about the Rouges. Open your map at night just before morning and look for their campfires. I believe they spawn in at the same time as the hunters but they move every night. If it's raining their fires will go out....so there's that too.
Whilst watching your infected series I started playing infected again and i was just thinking this week that i might have a go at subsistence again. Think i will now that you're doing a series. This is probably the hardest survival game i've played. The Winter's are BRUTAL
Ive played a decent amount of infected as well. Problem is the replay ability isnt very strong for me. Awesome game i just wish there was more constructive things to do like quests.

I always heard this game was hard-core survival, so the lack of realism with how easy the crafting is really threw me.
I do love you can set the year to actually take a year, and that apparently a piece of raw meat in your pocket will spoil by the end of the day. It was funny to me how Kage was in disbelief that a raw fresh meat chunk on a warm day could spoil when hauled around in your dirty pack from morning to night.
Building is easy to start and gets continuously harder it’s far from easy for high tier items

@12:07 The raw food spoilage times quoted in the video are consistent with what those of us whom live in hotter climates experience (if you hunt or fish, that is). Cold climates are a different matter.

If you kill an animal, throw it in your pack for the day, you will find that it spoils really quick and no, it will not last all day.
This is realistic. I like it.
Your description of this game reminds me of old school ARK, the grind, the running, the hiding, the farming, the taming, the building, the upgrading, the fighting, the fleeing, the breeding, all exceptionally rewarding at the end and makes you feel like you've accomplished something.
I'm on a current run w/ this game and for the first time ever I think I'm almost at late game. New update/content rocks!

Kage I love that you are doing a fresh series of this, it is one of my top survival games. Re: your comment on how long is needed to prep for Winter, I recently did a 12 day no BCU playthrough and reset winter so it lasted 6 days It is a HUGE push but doable, you can survive winter on these settings. I 100% agree with you, its a tough game but as rewarding as it is tasking! Looking forwad to this series!

Nice to see a new start! If you bought meat from the butcher on your way to work in the morning and carried it around in your backpack all day, I doubt it would be very nice when you got home, especially if it were a hot day but it would be nice if the game let it last a bit longer lol! Challenging hard games are worth it. It makes the dynamic way more rewarding at the end. Survival/crafting games that make you work for "it" makes me spend way more time on it. I'm excited Kage, I'm following really close on this one

What is interesting is about this game is , it primarily focuses around single player survival and crafting, which is almost unheard of in this day and age. For example, the Rust community have been asking for an offline mode with AI, but the devs wont do it and stick only to multiplayer.
The developer of Subsistence is doing an amazing job by implementing offline AI - which is one of the most complicated tasks of single player game programming.
AI opponents building their own bases and progressing just like your character is a new dynamic that i find very intriguing here. I follow the Age of Empire games and its the same there with multiple AI players building their own bases.
AI development essentially boils down to a rule engine executing rules. You can make it as sophisticated as you want taking thousands of parameters into consideration, making the rule engine flexible etc, but its essentially executing rules at the end of the day. It essentially comes down to "Do this, If so and so conditions are met, or do that instead". But at the same time, some dev's can make AI's do so much more than a normal human can - For example, the AI should not automatically see everything, it should imitate the human attention somehow by moving the "camera" and doing stuff only on objects within it's view and with a certain limit. E.g. not doing 20 simultaneous tasks, that's not humanly possible. That becomes cheating AI. Needs to be as human like as possible.
Once the AI gets intelligent and starts "thinking" strategically - like for example chop all trees, loot all boxes near your base or steal your fish. Then it gets creepy as hell!
Observing how AI plays in any game is really fascinating for me. I really look forward to how the AI players behave in this game.
In this game, How many AI players are spawned once your base gets powered on? Do they fight each other?

In regards to fishing, some of the fish only spawn in the smaller bodies and can offer just as good of meat. Definitely still better being near the lakes for the cave entrances and large amounts of pearls.

You are correct. The game is demanding, but conversely, the game will provide. It's a great game. Sure do wish more content creators would put videos on Rumble. That's where I discovered Subsistence.
I haven't played this game forever glad to see it is still being worked on.
I love this game and I am quite addicted to it!! This has to be one of the fastest starts I have ever seen, great job. Where you are Ohno built his base right across there as well. I usually hold off on my BCU for 4-5 days so I can really ramp up my resources. I dont find the camp fire too bad and the items needed for a fire starter are easy. Looking forward to this series!!
1.) fine a place to build a house 2.) food and water 3.) build your stuff after you done build your home and getting food and water.
Im curious to see how this game has changed. I played a long time ago and i thought it was lacking a lot. Youre becoming one of my go to survival series so lets see how this game is. LETS GOOOOO!!!
The hunters will never come if you don't place your BCU (I will sometimes spend two game months building up the walls, roof, floors, etc. and no hunter will ever spawn until a couple days after dropping a BCU). So don't feel rushed to put down a BCU or start your base somewhere crappy. You can build up the skeleton of your base for as long as you want (just don't throw down that BCU).
I learned that if you die, you don't lose your gun as long as you haven't placed a storage chest yet so it's best to do that as the last thing you do at the end of the day. Also, hunters don't show up until three days after you place the BCU. Also, I'm super psyched you're doing this! I'm starting my own game and I love to play along with other people but I it's not as fun when their content is too old. Yay!
Also, I hope you play the updated Mist Survival game! I think he's only updated the beta branch due to some bugs, but it would still be fun to see. It's a whole new map and everything!
Have you tried the game called S.C.U.M. It too is a survival game, your a prisoner and dropped in an area that has more prisoners, but they are also zombies. Map is large and there are are cars, boats, bikes, guns etc to collect. Also there are drones that watch what your doing, because that world society is watching you as entertainment. I think you would like it.
Best survival game for me was by far the forest. It’s the best building system I’ve ever come across

Hey cage I started playing this game a week ago and I don’t know if you know this but a good way to get a lot of resources before you set up your thing to show you where your bases is that you save the game then you Load up the safe and all the trees you mind and all the resources around the area will respond

Where you started is my favorite spot on the map.
Chicken will always turn away from you when running after them. So if you are in the right side it will turn left.

Like you I am an older gamer, 46, will be 47 in Jan. I do the same with the aiming & getting used to the weapons in games. I use a Logitech G502 HERO mouse, that has 6 programable buttons. One I have set to cycle through 4, of 5 possible, different DPI settings. That way I can have a low, 1200, DPI for fine movement for placing items that don't have a turn option when building, Then 6400 DPI for quick movement, with 2400 & 3200 DPI in between. Some games have slower mouse movements that need the 6400, but most of the time I am at 3200. That is the sweet spot I found for most games for good movement & aim control.
The BCU is what causes the Hunters to come in and Build if you look at your screen when you place it. It says Hunters will come in at x amount of days

I did shoot a rabbit with one round at close range. Thought score for me. Then realized, shooting them destroys the pelt. So use arrows only on those critters. Or at least that is my experience. Glad you are doing a play thru on this Kage. I played this when it was Beta a LONG time ago. You could not change much. I was only in it a couple days and winter hit. I did not last long. lol

you will be surprised how fast a season goes. yes, you can turn hunters on/off at will. I build a base, then turn hunters on , some coops I have going have no hunters. more of a challenge. New stuff you will enjoy lol. 687hrs so far. Validate before each time you run the game. Steam thing.
That pistol looks exactly like my Beretta 92x, cant believe you called it a Glock 😂
That M9A3 is definitely not a Glock.
i built my base on that rock too. it's the only one i've found on the map that you can't jump up onto, which means neither can the hunters. :D
Love the game and it is grindy and hard and continuous..was there an update or did you just miss it ??
That rock is where BloodStalker and myself built our bases.. Stole the location from Blood.

I don't know about the difficulty part, just keeps you crazy busy constantly. you're not extending the days for longer play. You are just extending the months. It doesn't seem to be enough time in a day to accomplish more. I jump back on the game usually after dinner about 7:00 pm ...and look at the clock 5 minutes later and it's 11:15 pm. it's a non-stop game.. but it sure seems to be the best survival game on the market. enjoy your vids Kage. Watching for the next. CG sure did a fantastic job creating this.
i hope this is seen , if you want to prevent gettin pinned in by the hunters bases , you have to be vigilant and kill the fresh hunter camps while they are still only a campfire , once a single foundation is placed its to late unless you have explosives

This game looks good! The only thing that gets me was the shadow lol its not accurate to the players movements.

This came out in 2016 but looks fucking pristine. I love it
