  • It’s been a long Fall here on the ranch and winter is starting to make a late appearance. We go through some daily chores, feeding the cows and checking water. We move the herd into a new pasture to try and get by as long as we can without having to feed.

    I agree with the below! Great to see the number one ranch hand out there keeping you on the straight and narrow!! Good Dad and good update!

      Thanks! Hopefully he will enjoy it as much as I do, at least most days haha. This storm has settled in here and we’ve gotten about 6” the last couple of days and it’s supposed to keep coming till tomorrow. Hope you are doing well!

      Thanks for the comment. I heard a quote once that I loved it said “Being lucky is just having the ability to see opportunity” So hopefully this turns into a good decision haha. It’s been having Ellis tag along with me. Hope all is well in the land down under

    Raising your little man right. He looks after the herd and the herd will look out for him.
    Not feeding yet. Lucky. I have been feeding since Oct here in Alberta. Have a good one.

      He’s our first one so I’m trying to do it right and the best I can but I’m a rookie haha. Did you guys run out of fall feed or did the snow bury it all? How long do you guys usually have to feed in the winter. This year has been a little out of the norm for us, we usually have to start around mid November/Thanksgiving time and usually have to go till mid may/1st of June.

      @@LuthiRanchWY we ran out of pasture. We normally are first of November until start of June.
      Raising kids is trial and error.
      You teach them the best you can.

      Thanks! It’s fun to have him out there with me. He slows me down a bit but hopefully I get him trained up where he can start doing my work for me haha. Good to hear from you!

      He does slow you down now but in a few years he will be doing it on his own and you’ll wonder where the time went! My helper is now 22 and seems like yesterday he was right beside me just like your boy is now.
      I know you said last year you wouldn’t do it again but if you change your mind, don’t backflip off the house into the snow just yet. 😂

      @LuthiRanchWY  6 місяців тому +1

      He’s only 2 1/2 now and I already amazed how fast they change and start to grow up. Haha I won’t be doing any backflips with this amount of snow. Hopefully we don’t have to deal with as much snow as we did last year. Good to hear from you!

    LoL that little apple that hangs around with you didn't fall far from the tree, so good to see him growing up doing things that are like the good ol days, that gate ride cracked me up. The weather out here is on the late side also a few mornings in the high teens then going up into the low forties. No snow yet just flurries, good for the wood pile but seems like here anyway it's definitely not like when I was a kid, but that was a while ago 😅.. Stay safe beautiful family

      Thanks! It’s been fun having Ellis tag along with me while I’ve had some time off for the new baby. He seems to like being outside and being busy. We’ve been going through our wood pretty quick lately just trying to keep the house plenty warm for the new one. I got extra wood this year just for that reason. I’ve sure enjoyed our long fall. It’s been snowing pretty good the last couple of days and it doesn’t have me very excited to have to deal with the snow again. Good to hear from you, hope you and your family are doing well.

    Feels like spring was a month late earlier this year and now winter is a month late so maybe it balances out. Nice to see your top hand out working with you and starting to get an understanding of how much work it really takes.

      I’ve sure enjoyed this Fall I won’t complain about the late winter. Sure has been coming down today though. I assume you guys are getting snow also? It’s been fun having Ellis tag along while I’ve had some time off. Hope you are doing well!

      @@LuthiRanchWY No complaints on late winter here either. We got a couple inches our way. Finished trailing cattle off of south pass 2 weeks ago and things are pretty much buttoned up for winter. Keep up the great videos.

    If the slew isn't froze over will the fish still bite in cold weather? What would You use for bait?

    • @LuthiRanchWY
      @LuthiRanchWY  6 місяців тому

      I’ve never caught too many fish out of it this time of year but if I were to try I’d probably just use a worm or a bait minnow. In the fall the best thing to use is grass hoppers. We used to catch a bunch of grass hoppers and keep them in mason jars with air holes punched in the lids.
