John Coltrane: Giant Steps Acoustic Sounds 75th Atlantic Live Review/Comparison

- Join me as I open and listen to Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series) edition of Coltrane's 'Giant Steps'. This pressing is 180-gram 45 RPM double LP mastered directly from the original master tape by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. How does it measure up to Rhino's 2020
Deluxe 2LP pressing?

I really enjoyed your shootout and subscribed. I'm in Canada and so shipping direct from Acoustic Sounds is cost prohibitive for me. While I have do have a previous pressing of STP's Core, I would have liked to obtain the 45 rpm; one day maybe. I have the 60th My Favorite Things and I am happy with it. However, I have been waiting to get a definitive copy of Giant Steps and almost pulled the trigger on the 60th a couple times. Your shootout has been very helpful to distiguish between these two versions. Cheers!
I don't usually comment, but I just wanted to say that I am really enjoying these reviews of the Atlantic series.
Thanks!
Excellent shootout and review. Thank you sir
Agreed that the Rhino sounds brighter & the warmth comes thru on 45rpm. -Russ
“A little better” doesn’t seem like a good trade off for 33 vs 45. To me sitting back and getting into the flow of an album is worth more than a slightly better sound quality. That said, I already ordered the 45 so…
I don’t mind flipping a record. That is their nature, limited time. For those who want uninterrupted listening get a cd. Slightly better is in the eye or the ear as it were, of the beholder. A slightly better sounding pressing can have a large impact on your overall listening experience of the album.
My disc one was off center, but it played without issue
An off centre record that plays without issues?
you should do a better cleaning before first play to get mold release compound off disc doctor cleaner works well
IMHO, the Acoustic Sound jam does not come out on top. Can hardly hear the cymbal.
Thanks. It may be the setup you have. On mine the highs are bit too much on the Rhino, while the Acoustic Sounds is more balanced. I can hear the cymbals fine. It is always interesting to get different opinions. What pressing were you comparing it to, the same Rhino version as I had?
