Gestalt: Steam and Cinder is available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
I hope you will enjoy my review of Gestalt: Steam and Cinder (PC). A gorgeous looking pixel art metroidvania set in a very vibrant steampunk world, but does it live up to my high expectations? Let's find out! I tried to keep it as short as possible, but hopefully you will still get the full picture. Enjoy!
Great review! Fun fact: Many of the names in this game are actually Greek words :D Aletheia (Αλήθεια) means truth, Deksios (Δεξιός) means right (as in right side), Aristera (Αριστερά) mean left (as in left side) and Jocasta is a Greek name that means "Shinning Moon." There were other examples as well, but these are the ones I remember!

This was my second most wishlisted game. It didnt disappoint. Gameplay ws very fun! A bit too easy, but thats ok. Im happy you are reviewing again. Missed you!!!

Great review as always Joy. I really like the look of this game, the pixel art is amazing. I agree with getting interrupted with dialogue too often I just want to play the game 😄 I will probably wait for a sale before I get this one. I'm Working my way through Afterimage at the moment and oh my I have never being so lost in a game, the map is huge 😂

A shame about the platforming but lovely to hear visual variety and combat are top notch! Also the fact that you didn't die is impressive and makes me hopefull that the game is a bit challenging but very fair. I don't mind a story heavy metroidvania every now and then either so i think i'll massively enjoy this one! Been looking forward to it a long time anyways so definitely picking this up during my vacation later this year. Good review joy :)
Yeah I would say the difficulty is pretty fair, even if you jump in lava or bottomless pits you only lose a tiny bit of health. I really hope you will, it's definitely not a bad game, but it just didn't live up to my high expectations. Thank you so much, D00mnoodle! ☺
@@GamingwithJoy15 Despite the predictability of the narrative i still enjoyed the characters and their relations as well as the worldbuilding. I didn't mind the dialogue here because while it is indeed numerous at least it sets up important narrative beats unlike nine sols' HOURS of boring filler dialogue with shuanshuan or shenong that really made me yawn. I found the ingame map to be servicable although nothing tops a detailed ori style map in terms of MV dopamine. The game is indeed quite linear and rather easy which may make it a weaker MV but i mostly wanna play fun games that are also MV's, with my priority on the former. Gestalt was a very fun game, from the GODLIKE pixel art, to the amazing soundtrack and the addictive progression & combat systems. I also really liked the level design despite the linearity, especially the foundry/factory level with all the platforming hazards was tons of fun to me as well as the moderate platforming difficulty increase in the last biome. I really liked the bosses too despite them being rather easy, i can definately see myself doing another playthrough where i don't level the skilltree so i can increase the challenge that way! I think it's an underappreciated gem in the MV community because somehow people prefer tough as nails difficulty over a fun and smooth game. It's one of my personal favorite games of 2024 rounding out my top 3 and an MV that can confidently sit in A-tier for me :)

Hey there, dear lady. I'm often amazed how quickly you complete games, honestly, its impressive. With this one, I agree with you about everything you pointed out, my biggest gripe with the game was as with you; the constant interruptions - which is annoying, cause I found the story to be pretty good. As of writing this, Ive 100%ed the game in a little over 5 hours, deathless - and I barely wore any "tanky" gear as you put it. I think this game's a good length and doesnt overstay its welcome, which is great, imo. Ive heard a reviewer or two complain the map looks awful, but honestly, I thought it was a very good and down to the point map that made getting collectables easy, Ive played mvs with bad/terrible maps, this is 100% not one of them. I enjoyed the combat fine, if not for it being a little too simplistic; and the fact you basically had to use the same tactics on all but maybe one boss wasnt great. The bosses themselves LOOKED cool, but by the time you keep adding skill points, they become an absolute joke. I'll say, Im especially a fan of Eliza's esthetic, thought she was awesome. But to prove my point, by the end of the game, I had a max of 8 health elixirs and barely needed to use 1 to beat the endboss. Quest-wise, I enjoyed the rescuing of corgis, having had one myself years ago, very nice they added you finding them cute pupperts as a sidequest.
All in all, imo, this is a god mv, one of the best of the year so far, I have little to no problem recommending this one. And with the way the game ended, I eagerly await a much improved sequel and even...DLC, should we get that down the line. (Speaking of, are we even getting ANY Blasphemous 2 DLC? Or are they just leaving that game as is??)
Ive been going between this game, the very good/extremely cute Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, and Fallen Leaf, and now we have the excellent-looking Meifumado releasing today.
A great year for mvs and platformers alike!
EDIT: About Meifumado, watching the KS trailer from 2 years ago, and reading what happened with their funding...what a disaster, the game looks and feels completely neutered, a shadow of awesome promise turned to dust; which is a damn shame, it looked like it couldve been something very special instead of this visibly unfinished mess it was released as

Wauw I didn't expect you to like it so much after all these flaws you've just mentioned, but that's really awesome! My favourite of this year is still BIOMORPH, but I have high hopes for Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus, so I can't wait to give it a try!
I also would love to see a sequel of Gestalt: Steam and Cinder, like you said they can improve on so many things, but let's see how it will be received the coming months.
Oof is Meifumado really that bad? I've seen some trailers for it and it looked pretty interesting, but there are so many negative reviews already. What a shame..
