At the end of the day, it's a CINEMA camera. Your points didn't really make any sense, very few cameras that are labeled "cinema" have AF. A lot, besides Sony, don't even have IBIS. And while the camera doesn't have IBIS, Davinci decodes the gyro metadata stabilizing the image (which I'm sure you know, but this video is obviously to get clicks and comments). You're expecting it to have it because of its body design, but its not an A7iv or iii, nor fx30, its a CINEMA camera. I thought it was pretty obvious that it wouldn't have these because of the fact that it's labeled as a cinema camera. I do agree entirely on the battery, but I think a lot of people who bought this camera expected to rig it out and part of that is batteries. I don't know man, I don't think any of this is the cameras fault, I think it's just you having different needs. Seems like you're using it for a lot of run and gun and not using it for what it was intended to do. I think its a killer camera for the price.
It kills me that it doesn't record H.265 or ProRes. Even if it was a $200 license, I would love to have the option. I can forgive everything else. Great review!
BRAW is the best, no reason to shoot in anything else with the color grading capabilities using Davinci Studio. You can just export to .265 in davinci.
@@BryanEnsign At my corporate job, can’t use BRAW (they won’t let me download third party software, including the BRAW plug-in for Premiere). My clients also don’t want me to hand off BRAW. Tentacle Sync software, can’t use BRAW. Final Cut Pro X, which I love to use for quick edits, can’t use BRAW. Love BM cameras, but I also need H.265 or ProRes to use it professionally.
4:00 so I dropped my BMCC 6k of a second story on to a side walk and the cage maily saved it but it still works grate and nothing is wrong with it so I can say it's made to last.
Love blackmagic as a brand but when I was choosing my most recent camera it just came down to that plastic body, and I 100% understand thats how they keep the costs low but when you can buy an older RED for the same price, its a nice luxury to have a nice build quality. I got the RED Scarlet-W
No internal NDs because of the L mount close flange distance. Sony was able to make the EVND work because it's a small piece of glass but there needs to be more space between lens and sensor to make that jazz work.
I have both the CC6K and the PYXIS... I've been saying the the CC6K was a prototype for the PYXIS for a while. My CC6K is easily just as good as the PYXIS image wise but the CC6K has a constant problem with overheating.
@@Christo_glenn To be clear, I do a lot of outdoor shooting and am in the very southeast US, which gets HOT during the summer, and it typically happens the most when shoot offspeed/high frame rate. BUT, the Pocket 6K Pro and the PYXIS(so far) have not had that issue.
@@Christo_glenn It is, but truthfully, it's also happened down at like 85 degrees fahrenheit, which to me, is still unacceptable. But, still a great camera overall and it remains a tool we rely on in addition to our other cameras.
I had a 6K Pro at release. Loved the camera. But quickly realized it was way more advanced than what I needed. Still loved it tho. If it had auto focus I probably would have kept it.
Buildquality doesnt equal metal. Plastic is much more complex and expensive to develop, its main purpose is not just to make it cheap, main purpose is usually weight.
It’s ugly no doubt, but looks way better and most of your gripes would be gone with a cage. Most true cinema cameras are not going to have autofocus because focus pullers are going to be doing that.
Agreed. Whilst I love my pocket 4k, the form factor is so damn awkward. My guess as to why they haven’t changed the designs is due to cost savings (developing and manufacturing a new design is extra $$) and perhaps another reason might be due to the design of the relatively large monitor.
The BMPCC 4k, 6k and pro are my favorite cameras ever. Cant beat the look for the price. I just hate the build style and how it looks like a photography camera.
@@Christo_glenn YES!!!! I do not know a single person consuming 6k+ content. Yes you can punch in more while editing but doing that in 4k has been fine for my clients and personal workflow. The sensor is bigger but crops in under resolution anyway. The internal ND filters are the big plus for me. I do think the new model box shape is the best but can't justify double the price yet. Im with ya man!!
I bought a 6k pro recently. The full frame and Pyxis just ain't them. Maybe if you're in a super controlled lit set where ND isnt important, or clients of yours dont need prores, but for the work I do they lack a lot. I hope they bring out an ursa 6k in the body of the 4.6k g2
If you have to replace the battery in the camera even tho you have full batteries in the grip, what is the point of the grip? Does the grip still provide a longer battery run time?
I would 100% support on patreon! I think the only person I currently subscribe to on there is the absolute GOAT, GX Ace - but his tiers + perks are awesome. You’ve built an amazing community. I’d much rather give you 5-15 bucks a month than some streaming service.
@ZachMayfield it’s mostly behind the scenes stuff, early access, product discounts, name in the credits, but he also mails prints of his work quarterly which I love.
the blackmagic Pocket 6K is thhere version of the FX30. While the 6K full frame is the FX3 but Worse exept for the fact its 6k Buts lets behonest your only going to use the 6k sensor to downsample anyways. The sony FX30 and 3 are just better. fx3 for lowlight and 30 for 6k downsample. they have better battry life and smaller but feel better in the hand espechally for run and gun shooting.
Cinema cameras ONLY need 1 slot. Doc and video is DIFFERENT ---> Red DSMC2 like my Gemini -1 slot - Arri 1 slot... YOU DONT NEED A BACKUP for NARRATIVE CINEMA. IE what the camera is designed for

you also can't forgive the fact they didn't offer any de-squeeze options for anamorphics but gave you a FF 3:2 sensor, that's ridiculous lol
@@buddyfx7026 i think there is a de-squeeze. at least on my 6k pro

It technically has image stabilization, but only in post, via DaVinci decoding the gyroscope metadata.
I'm still using the old 2.5k cinema camera and that image ist still great

Thanks for the insights! I thought it was strange that the ND were not on this cam and seemed like adding one would’ve been a no-brainer.
New studio looks like it has so much potential

the grip makes no sense to me
How do you do the VHS/CRT text effect?
I always found that form factor horrendous as it’s too much for handheld (and not heavy enough with no IBIS) hard to rig with no cage. Hence the Pyxis
yeahhhh I can't wait to see how the PYXIS feels in comparison. Hoping it feels like a smaller Ursa
