Lovely Video As Always Shaun You Will Get It Sorted For Sure Hope Youre Output Pair Are OK, and Its Just The Cap Thats Duff !! Fingers Crossed Thanks For Uploading Stay Safe Regards mike.
Hi Andy I think the original speaker would of been by a maker called Rola and 4 ohm , i've yet to check the ohm on the speaker that has replaced the original Thanks for watching ( PS enjoying your videos ) Best regards Shaun
You made me laugh, i hope i don't need a mallet ha ha :-D I didn't see that coming :-D. Yes i also thought the speaker tags were broken off then oow maybe the speaker is a replacement. Shame the original oval one died :-( It could be the capacitor semi shorted, a multimeter in ohms mode would show it, but you might have to lift one end of the cap out of the board so you only read the cap. Hopefully the output transistors are ok. I'm at it again, stating the obvious, sorry shaun :-(
Don't be sorry , very valued your knowledge to me I'm thinking i havn't done the obvious by squirting some cleaner in that on/off wave band switch 1st I just pressed record on the camera and showed it as it came Thanks for watching Best regards Shaun
Interesting, electrolytic capacitors seem to be a weak point in electronics, you can often see the top domed up on the single ended ones, I look forward to finding if them two transistors are blown and if so what you replace them with. If all else fails you can always stick an SDR and Rasperry Pi in the empty box 😀 😀 😀
Oh Thanks for watching , been watching your channel (excellent channel) got a few tips for Bushcraft skills I'm really a newbie at restoring Radios but i enjoy the learning curve Best regards Shaun
@@SweeneyTTodd I don't know that much about radios, just used to work them for a job when in the military. I do have a SDR though but it is a bit deaf at the lower frequencies of interest. And CB radios can be handy at times. ATB
Been researching and taking advice from Graham , Think there's more going on with the set than i thought , enjoying working through the puzzle Thanks for watching Best regards Shaun
I bought a r505 listed as not working, I applied current limited (100ma)9v to the battery terminals and it dropped the voltage to less than 1 v so I changed 5 caps and still the same I then released the output transistors from the chassis again no change so I flooded the board with isopropyl to see if anything warmed up again no joy and cleaned the on off switch I’m running out of ideas do you think it’s possible than the radio was previously powered up with a positive pin adapter and it’s fried a lot of the components? I’ll try removing some of the transistors next to see how they are
@@xenusceptic Hi, Possibly blown transistors, if you haven't got a signal tracer the first thing I'd do rather than pulling the transistors out is check the headphone socket, you can easily bypass it to rule it out , they can cause problems Good luck hope that helps Best regards Shaun
@@SweeneyTTodd thanks but the main problem seems to be a short somewhere as the 9v drops to .3 v with a current limit of 100 odd milliamps, there is two 4.7u 63v caps I’ve yet to change when they arrive I’ll try them And I’ll try out your idea of the headphone socket Appreciate the help 👍🏼
Love a good 505 . Nice one mate.
Thanks for watching

Hi Shaun thanks for sharing good to see you uploading videos.
Thanks for watching Chris
Nice to put the camera on and press record , i usually forget
Hope your all good
Best regards Shaun
Wow...really cool stuff mate. Interested to see how it all gets sorted as you get on with it.

Working my way through the set blindly !
Hope you enjoy the videos

Its a nice one... if you do need parts I'm sure I have a couple of scrappers buried under the bench you can get bits off.
That's very kind of you to offer George
I would like to see how far i get with it as it stands
Good to know there are spares
Best regards Shaun
You got this Shaun. I hope you can find the proper oval speaker to bring it back to near original.

nice looking radio dont think I have ever had one of these. Those bits of wire on the battery connector look like an attempt to connect a PP3
Probably right there , i did wonder

Nice work Sherlock. I’m sure you will get to the bottom of the high current draw. If not then the mallet will claim another victim. Cheers Graham
