I enjoyed our collaboration on this radio. It did seem at first glance like it may be a stretch too far. But I like a challenge. George, you did a fantastic job on the electrical. Kudos Brother.
As always what a great video George! The electrical turned out splendidly. I just watched Paul do the cosmetics and OMG, it is gorgeous and sounded fantastic! You two made a wonderful collaboration together!
Glad you liked it Gregg. It was so close to being a scrapper but when Paul came to visit we hatched the plan to fix it up. Economic repair? No way but as a project... Definitely worth doing.
You are quite right where the circuit board is was not a pretty sight. Interesting idea doing a collaboration on a radio. Very nice job rebuilding that radio from scratch. Thanks for sharing
Paul is a top guy when it comes to British transistor radios and is an expert at recovering them with different materials as well as restoring original finishes. He has a stock of original rexine coverings from the original manufacturer of it before they stopped production. I couldn't think of a better guy to restore the external case.
Amazing job george, and it works now :-D The insides were a bloody mess and a half, but you have dragged it back from death and healed its problems :-D Wow!! i have never seen crapacitors in such a bad state over 30+ years of doing repairs :-( Even the explosion of a reverse polarityed 470uf coke can is not quite as nasty, just brown smelly tissue splatted everywhere and bits of cap case distributed widely. I really like the mat black chassis, it looks smart and it fits in spot on :-D. Thankyou for re growing that beard so fast he he :)
I can't figure out how they died like that. Chemical action might kill one but not two. Explosion... Different mess... External corrosion is about the only thing I can think of, but to react like that with aluminium it must have been an external compound.
Just a fun little job.... Not many components in a rambler and it was a standard all caps dead job Victor. Even the tropicals were cracked so full recap, not just the electrolytics. My biggest great was a sick varicap but it was about the only thing that survived intact.
Nicely Done George I have done a few similar projects in the past without the luxury of a schematic or service manual but not anymore I have a hard time remembering where a wire goes after I have de soldered it with my swiss cheesed memory !
Lovely Work As Always George The Rambler is Not One Of My Favourite Roberts Sets Good An Sensitve But Let Down a Bit By The Speaker Me Thinks But Brought It Back To Tip Top Working Order !! Will Have To Check Out This Codeeze Fella Heard a Lot Of Good Things About Him !! he he Regards mike.
Indeed Mike. When I first saw it in the pile I was thinking it would just be junk and it nearly got thrown away. I showed it to Paul when he came to visit and we cooked up the idea of restoring it... If it was a paid job it would be costing us more than its worth but as a video project... a bit of fun.
Absolutely superb effort there George , fantastic work , re capping a Roberts un marked board from the schematic as well ! Brilliant (off to see Codeeze part ) Best regards Shaun
Nice job George, are you going to string the dial cord? George the last video you made you were clean shaven, how did you grow that beard so fast?....LOL
It's magic Bill, and time travel! I'm still in the far East, well away from my bench at the moment too. I fly back to a country in confusion on Thursday.... There is less Corona here than back in the UK so it is so tempting to just stay!
Hey George I watched a video trying to fix my loud fan on my PS4 so I took it apart and cleaned it of dust and now it is overheating any idea on what to do?
George Christofi thank you George I put it in place and replaced my thermal paste because there was almost none on the chip and it runs quiet now I have no problems thank you so much

It wasn't a bad little job in the end. Looked like a scrapper at first glance but there wasn't much damage per se.

@@GeorgeChristofi Yes he did a wonderful job making it look like new. Really is talented in repairing cabinets for sure.

George and paul guys amazing transformation and alot of time hard work pays off
Ta Andy. It was a little challenge. More so for Paul I reckon....
You double teamed the little sod! Nice work. Major strip down as well
It needed it Graham... pretty much every capacitor was either cracked or out of tolerance... We beat it with a stick and fixed it.
Great transformation it sounds very loud, be interesting to see the next stage. Thanks George regards Chris
Glad you enjoyed it Chris. It will reappear in some form at a later date.
Great work George as always! 👍🏻
Thanks Buzz... I try and do different stuff and keep it real!
Fantastic work by the pair of you looks great and sounds good too thanks
Many Thanks David. it turned into a great little set for sure!
Fabulous George, nice rebuild. . . off to watch the case fettling now! :)

You Sir, are a bloody genius!
It isn't a rocket science radio to be fair.....
A nice tag team effort so far. I am off to see what Codeeze has done.
I think you will enjoy his bit. Mine was the easy bit I reckon.
@@GeorgeChristofi It was still a good watch George. I like your video style and your editing is smooth. Well done. You are patient man.
What a messy set, top work George.
It was a dirty little fellow but it scrubbed up ok in the end. Bit more than a standard repair.
Nicely Done George I have done a few similar projects in the past without the luxury of a schematic or service manual but not anymore I have a hard time remembering where a wire goes after I have de soldered it with my swiss cheesed memory !
I cheated as I had a photo or two plus a diagram so I just had to line up the holes.
@@GeorgeChristofi where would we be without smart phones and cameras ! I would be lost without it I used to make sketches of what I was doing etc

Glad you enjoyed it Shaun. It was a nasty little rotter but between us we got it good again.
Just bought a briefcase radio on eBay George. I'm A sucker for the look.
Some say "decorators piece".
Lots of nice sets around. Those suitcases are quite good lookers in a lot of cases.
@@GeorgeChristofi He He!, see what you did there George. Your "a case"
Hi George. Are you going to get Radiocruncher to re string it? He would love that job. Like the video and have seen the clean up. Have fun Derrick.
I would if it had needed it but I salvaged the original dial string assembly intact. Graham would have loved a live dial cord.
Nice job George, are you going to string the dial cord?

I did restring it before sending it to Paul for the cosmetic work. I also did align it off camera.
Hey George I watched a video trying to fix my loud fan on my PS4 so I took it apart and cleaned it of dust and now it is overheating any idea on what to do?
It sounds like the heat transfer pads have shifted from either the memory chips or the cpu. Might be worth checking that they are all in place.
George Christofi thank you George I put it in place and replaced my thermal paste because there was almost none on the chip and it runs quiet now I have no problems thank you so much
@@traxklif3868 Glad to have helped.
Weren't you just overseas yesterday?
I am still overseas Gary... The power of recording video in advance!
The links did not show on the screen.
strange... they certainly did for some others...
