  • eBay purchase. This radio arrived in a sorry state - courtesy of the courier.
    The seller was good enough to refund without quibble. What can I do for him without quibble?
    Pay it forward...

    Nicely done. And very nice gesture in returning it to the seller. The world needs more gestures like this and I applaud you for it. 😇

      Hanks Gerard. It's good to pay things forward. I do it a lot (quietly). People are generous in sending me things on occasion, and it's my pleasure to make someone elses day by doing the same.

    What a great transfornation, repairing the damage the carrier caused together with getting the radio up and running. A very kind act 👍

    I know how frustrating the damage can be. I bought a laptop recently and in the pictures it was in excellent shape. I got an offer from the eBay seller who had dropped the price quite a bit, so I bought it. It arrived very well wrapped with no signs of damage from shipping. The way it was wrapped and from the looks of the box nothing happened to it in the hands of the shipping company.
    After opening it up I found some damage on one of the corners of the top as if it had been dropped. I looked the photos over carefully again and verified from some small stains that it was in fact the same laptop, and that the damage wasn't there in the pictures. I was furious.. It was obviously dropped before it was packed up.
    I decided to give the seller NO rating at all as a result. It's not the kind of damage that can really be repaired very well.

      It is frustrating, seller descriptions and buyer expectations can vary wildly. But when something arrives damaged, it smarts a bit more. Sorry to hear of your experience.
      Thanks for watching Fred.

    Well done. alive and kicking again :-D
    What a shame it was damaged in transit :-(
    I might have used a mica washer or the blue rubbery sheet for the output transistors, but the outputs are not likely to get that hot.
    The broken perspex is a shame, hard to fix without the glue showing :-(

    • @Codeeze
      @Codeeze  Рік тому

      Thanks Mr zx.
      These things happen...
      Thermal transfer tape is what I have an abundance of. The outputs do get warm to the touch, even too hot to touch when they are short.
      Broken perspex, the only thing to do, is change the dial face at the expense of a scrapper...

    Lovely Work Paul I Suspect One Or Both Of The Output Pair Has Developed Whiskers Causing it To Short To The Heatsink Thanks For The Upload Regards mike.

      Thanks! You are correct there Mike - Isolating the transistor casings from the chassis is akin to cutting the screen leads on an AF11X - it gets the job done and will likely work very well like that for years.

    Some things really make you wonder when you open up a radio for the first time. I can't for the life of me figure out why somebody would go to the trouble of removing that radio from it's case and cut out two capacitors. Why ask why I guess. Anyway you get 10 radio rescue points for paying it forward. Well done you. ATB Doug.

    • @Codeeze
      @Codeeze  Рік тому

      Thanks Doug. The seller bought two, which were do a when he got them, sent them away for repair, and got one back working, and this one not.
      I think someone tried to repair this one too, but gave up.
      After so many years doing this, I can't figure it either...
      Thanks for watching, Paul

    Hi. Just discovered your channel and subscribed. It looks like you’ve got lots of interesting videos. I’m mainly into valve / tube radios myself but I’m developing an interest in transistors.
    Pity about this one being damaged - not to mention being messed with.

    Excellent rescue, although why anyone would rescue a Roberts when there are needy Hackers out there is anybody's guess 😁 Just kidding --it deserved a chance and you did it proud.

    What you need is to drop a lathe chuck on it. All the best radio repairers do that.....

    • @Codeeze
