EU vs X: Why the platform faces a potential ban and large financial penalties in Europe | DW News

- The social-media platform X has been blocked in Brazil for weeks. Owner Elon Musk has refused to comply with legislation requiring a legal representative in the country. He's called it a "hostage law" that would allow Brazil to jail his employee if it disapproved of content on the platform. Now, X is also facing scrutiny in Europe over its practices.

Blocking a platform that doesn't comply with laws isn't controversial at all. Not enforcing the law is what will cause controversy, and rightly so. No point having legislation if it isn't applied..
I am a Brazilian and believe me, it was controversial. A lot of right-wing nutjobs believed it was a censorship move made by the Supreme Court, a narrative that is 100% in Bolsonaro and his allies' agenda.
tech bros are fascists children that dont accept any rule other than their own impulses
some laws shouldn't exist or be enforced because they take away our freedoms and human rights 🤪
The bank that own the debit that financed Elon Musk purchased of "X" is Vladimir Putin. LOL hahahahahahahahaha 👿😂🤣
The problem you "forgot" to tell is the supreme court demands Elon to BREAK THE LAW AND CONSTITUTION.
He decide to disobey, not the law, but the order to break the law.
Europe: Is very complicated to ban a social platform…
Brazil: Hold my Berimbau!
lol.. Hold my suco de cana-de-açucar..
its not "might face prison if the administrator does not agree with the motives for blocking" as said in the video, its actually the simplest of the judicial standarts everywhere since ever, a judge issues an order and you obey it, the only option for the judge facing disobedience in fines and prison, there is really nothing complicated about it
What they mean is that banning has consequences they don’t want. E.g., they themselves and public and private institutions could not use it and would be inconvenienced at least in the short term.

The quandary between X and Brazil escalated because the billionaire thought he was dealing with a banana republic. Well, that's where he was wrong!
I don't understand how one could predict what a "banana republic" would do. It does not follow rules by definition.
By definition, "banana republic describes a politically and economically unstable country with an economy dependent upon the export of natural resources" (Wikipedia). In the modern times, such economy can only exist in colonized contries, which had never have national sovereign, or seld their own to the external capital. So yes, there is a rule. The rule is, in case of Brazil, just accept whatever people external to the country says because of their political or economic power
Brazil is a banana republic trying to act grown up. It does not rule the World Wide Web.
