  • EP.19 - A random failure of the starter solenoid can leave you stranded if you have an automatic Protege. Luckily manual owners can push start their cars but this can get old really quick. Should your starter suddenly fail with or without warning, this video explains what you can do to fix it quickly without breaking the bank or waiting for parts out of local reach. I turn 39 today....one day closer to being an old man...LOL!

    Hi
    I'm after gear/gearbox swap.
In one of my FS is completely gearbox from Mazda 626 with 1.8 FP engine. In second one only the fifth gear is changed.
Both gearboxes are with code G560-K2. After making a few thousands kilometers I decide to replace with ,,long" box to second one as well.
First impressions...it was one of the best thing I've done! I do not see any issues with acceleration or anything like that. Just great driving abilities.
Fuel economy is great, lower engine noise.
I have a feeling that those gearboxes are made for that engines!. Short one's are fine but only in the city.
I just had to replace sealing rings and after some time replace oil cause they sid for a wile at the junk yard.

That is something I was considering featuring on this channel. A swap or how to replace the fifth gear. At 80mph, the RPM in my is damn near 4k!

      3900rpm I'm having 140km/h on GPS in both BJ/Protage.
      Around 2600rpm a 100 km/h.
Also depending on wich wheels your driving. In complete long gearbox I have 205/45r17 in second one 205/40r17. So the speedometer in 40's is 5km/h higher then in real.
So check to be sure with GPS your real speed.
Also I could mention lower speeds. Long gears 2100rpm 50km/h on III gear.
2000rpm 50km/h on IV in short originele.
      It's a lot of cijfers i know 😆.
In both to compere was 3000rpm at 100. So basically it's 400rpm lower then it was but...don't know haw to explain it but feeling is that speed grows faster then the rpm and total impression is great.

So you're saying the TYC starter you installed 5ish years ago was still good but the solenoid that came with it went out, correct? My 2003 Protege DX is having issues now where sometimes when I turn the key the power comes on the accessories but it doesnt start. I'll start it again a second later and it will start. I thought it was the inhibitor switch on the trans but I changed that and it still has the issue. I'm going to order a new starter/solenoid unit next. Hopefully it fixes my issue. Thanks for this video!

That is correct. A healthy starter motor will rotate over really quick and sound normal. If it drags or sounds like the battery is dead, when you KNOW the battery has sufficient volts and amps to start, youll know it needs a starter. Most cases it just needs a solenoid.
