I’m a retired Army Infantryman and back in the mid 80’s many of us carried the old Gerber 500 L.S.T. Since we needed a knife that could basically bulldoze it’s way through material and the 06 Auto is a refined version of the old LST. We rarely carried our M9 bayonets and if we did it was overkill in using for minor tasks such as you’re demonstrating in this video. Now the Army dropped bayonets altogether so we have options on what to carry. I carried a Leatherman Wave and later on I wore a Gerber Combat Folder for self defense needs. Carrying the p6 Auto and a good multi-tool is a good option to have on you if you’re in a forward tactical environment as an Infantryman, Scout, Combat Engineers, Tankers, etc. while I was in a Iraq in 2003-04 we’d have Iraqi civilians doing work on the FOB and they always wanted to borrow my Wave which I declined, they wanted that thing badly.
I have one from 10 years ago. It was in an IED exploration, that hit the HUMV. After everything, it’s flawless and still works great. It can definitely take a beating, and be depended on.
I’m Scottish and I carry my manual 06 wherever I legally can. Love the channel and my 06. Will definitely be calling it a “pocket sword” from now on 😂. Loved hearing you talk about your faith in an early video too. Very cool to have you as a brother in Christ. All the best and Keep the great content coming 😃.
I have this knife. Not the anniversary edition, but military issued one I bought from my wife's granddad. My favorite knife I've ever had. I have the black, drop tip, serrated version. It's dope. AF
I only have Benchmade and Microtech. Mostly carry the Benchmade Shootout because of how light weight it is and the blade is razor sharp. I’ve always looked at this knife though and it resembles my Benchmade Claynore Auto. Good review!
Carried one since they hit the market. Mine is the serrated tanto version. I was a cop and it saw heavy use. The only thing I did was put a stronger spring. Highly recommended.
Hell yea I love my 06 auto. I carry mine clipped on the inside edge of my back pocket, along with my wallet. Can't even tell it's there, plus it would make it a hell of a lot harder for someone to pick pocket me and keeps my wallet from falling out when I'm doing wheelies on my dirt bike!
Nice! I bought one a few months ago. Had major blade play and fired very slow but something about it. Thinking about getting another one. I'm liking the camo version. Do you have a link for the upgradef coil spring? Was it hard to replace the spring? Thanks in advance!
MikeStrafaci USA Knifemaker sells the high torsion 1/2” coil springs. It’s pretty tricky getting everything back in place. 4 hands and arms would have helped
william Kushner yes, I used the Mega torque spring and the only modification needed, IIRC, was to trim a bit off of the portion that engaged the blade hole. It’s a tad too long. Other than that, works fine
I've ordered this because of your recommendation. After the rubber steel of the Bear Grylls "ultimate " knife I wasn't sure I could trust Gerber again.
Benchmade and spyderco are pretty much the only knives I own now, I took my collection of around 50 knives down to 12 folders and 4 fixed blades. My sebenza, 940, cold steel American lawman, griptilian in 154cm, pm 2, and my delica will never leave this collection, I’ve had these knives for almost 9 years. I say all that to tell you that I’m very picky about any purchase I make now, I use to buy any knife I thought looked cool but I haven’t bought a new knife in forever. Would this be a worthy purchase to add to my collection
Anyone know which side of the blade is considered the "front"? I'd like to have it etched but I'd like it on the plain side that has just the gerber symbol on it. Not the side with half a textbook printed on it
I’m not worried about two extra ounces. The added usability of this knife makes up for any added weight. The positive grip/guard make this a very safe knife. Doesn’t get in my way when I’m working and is discrete. I’m not going to carry a fixed blade on my side unless I’m camping. Smaller knives are just not strong/safe enough. Plus it’s USA made. This is truly the perfect every day carry for me. I also carry a Gerber multi tool that has a small knife. Perfect combo.
I looked at one of these two days ago at a Gerber knife stand pretty excited about getting to look at it and was pretty much sold on it until I handled it. It had some blade play and deployed relatively slow I could deploy a manual knife faster and was curious if you have noticed that or if the example I looked at was just a one off? 170 to 180 dollars I expected little to blade play and relatively quick deployment
Bought one for my wife and she loves it. I like them but for a combat situation I always lose the pocket clips as they can cut you when bare hand handling.
bamarocks777 That’s what Benchmade will tell you....Depends who you ask. Cold Steel & Spyderco will tell you different. At the end of the day it’s still a folder 🤔
...if u said it, i missed it, but are the pocket clips reversible on either gerber? ...& i wanted to say, diggin ur videos, & love ur message. new subscriber here. thanx & god bless ya dude
Bowen Creer I have that one. Good blade the opening mechanism isn’t the best though but it’s gone through multiple field ops in the desert so that may be why. It’s heavy but it won’t fail you. Blade is pretty easy to sharpen too even for S30V.
I have this in the Annv and I think it's the perfect size! I do have a SOG Fat Cat that isn't an auto but it flips pretty fast. Now that is a beast! It's so ridiculous I crack up laughing everytime I flip it open.
That rig is so noticeable with the pocket clips. Nothing discrete about it. Slow(er) spring than most. It has a cool factor, but if you’re considering this blade.. highly recommended you research the profile it makes when clipped to the pocket.
Not a gerber fan at all but I do like the look of this beast nice job gerber 👍a little pricey but that’s American made s30v and an auto🧐☹️I’m going with 1/4 inch thick on that lock up still diesel though✌️
The 06 Auto is a pretty cool knife. The heel of all 3 of those blades is terrible though. Stuff like that makes me question if Gerber knows how to properly grind a blade. Great job as always on the video.
I've had a tenth anniversary edition, and a plain edge manual for awhile and honestly love them. But any time I get my auto wet in any fashion it stops firing. Any idea what it could be?
@@JR-wo3sn really? I’ve owned and abused 5 of their knives never had any break, I’ve even put my 4in tylite thru a car door at a junkyard and only slight damage to the tip which has been restored with a stone.
TheMaddman187 Here in California, autos are only legal if under 2 inches, which is why you see a lot of 1.9 inch autos, Kershaw Launch 4, etc. Some cities like LA may have additional ordinances prohibiting them though, idk.
I have all sorts of auto knives, but I have never found any advantage of the side open variants. The button is easy to miss and I often hit the pivot screw first. The safety buttons highlight the problem of hitting the button when open and the injuries of using the knife without the safety. These knives are slower to deploy and are not easy to close with a single hand, and pushing the blade back against my leg it not the same. Of course, lefties need to deal with the lack of the ambidextrous controls. It is nice to see Gerber, and others, offer manual options and these offerings are a start, though very limited in real world application.
Both knives have what could easily be a sharpening choil, but fail to sharpen all the way to it. It isn't practical, and it looks cheap. Other than that. I would say great knife it seems!

I think we need a comparison of the Gerber Auto 06 vs Benchmade Adamas Auto...
Harley I was just thinking that because of how similar they look
Harley bench made Adamas has one of the best locks in the world on a folder I think.

I don't think it looks anything like the Adamas. It looks more like the Benchmade AFO.
I would go with a cold steel Voyager or Recon 1 xl it's lighter and same blade length and strength
If you think that's a pocket sword, then what do you consider a cold steel espada xl? I carry both the 06 auto and espada xl, mostly, every day.
