  • Let's dive into "New Trek" with a preview copy of Moebius Models' USS Franklin from Star Trek Beyond. As I say repeatedly in the video; this is a preview copy and anything I say might not relate to the final product.

    Currently working on this kit myself right now. Enjoyed your entire build of this and gave me some ideas as well. One thing I encountered as well was the gaps on the window segments. I did a dry test fit first and had similar gaps and more. I was able to correct it though and end up with almost zero gap. They were more like fine hairline gaps that needed very little putty at all. What I did though was I trimmed down each side of the window glass panels. The ends are what cause each segment to not fit right and have gaps. Once I trimmed off about a 18th of an inch off each end of the glass panels, they all went in perfectly and lined up correctly. I used Vallejo Plastic Putty as it was easier to just wet a qtip and wipe off the excess and left a clean uniform fill in. I only had to fill about 3 end to end gaps and one lower end segment. I'm glad I saw your build video first though to know what things to look out for. Awesome build again, yours came out awesome looking! I can wait to get into paint next.

    Lou Dalmaso is building this one too. Cool..I can see 2 different approaches to the same "test shot". Can't wait.

    Good return to Star Trek Tony. Despite the issues looks like a good kit! Nice size too.

    Looking forward to grabbing this kit when it's available, and the next video with it. I'm still hoping that Moebius manages to somehow throw out a kit/ship from Star Trek Discovery--like the Walker Class (U.S.S. Shenzhou).

    Doc.
    You don't paint the inside of the Bussard collector. There are fan parts that you need to glue in there ( which leaves two more blades that get stacked together and inserted into the clear ring at the back Just FYI

      @ThePaintingClinic  6 років тому

      That's what I assumed at first, but the fans were nowhere near flush with the clear dome. Also since on the CGI ship that band doesn't spin I figured best to make it a separate section.

      that maybe an issue with your test shot. Mine fit like a glove. I just sat them in the depression, and glued the very ends of the fan blades with some micro crystal clear

    I think the tiny tiny holes on the rear of the saucer section are for navigation lights, but that's just a guess. Personally I think the model screams out for some internal lighting.

    The Arms that come out of the Saucer to hold the Nacelle's look like, they need one or 2 Rods inside to prevent "bending down" after some time.

    How do you get these items? Do they contact you for reviews? Pre-order? Or you just have great friends in fun nerdy places?

    Careful about what you say about Moebius. A few years ago, I called them out for not showing in clear detail where parts of the Viper's landing gear went.
    ALL of the Moebius fanboys on HobbyTalk jumped down my throat and tore me a new one. Moebius themselves went so far as to bash ME saying that I need to test fit the parts beforehand which wasn't even the issue.

      Well, he didn't say anything about Moebius, and he did point out - often - that the kit was a test run. So I'd say he's safe.

      Well personally I really dislike Moebius. Their kits are cheaply designed and cast, fit poorly, are flashy, are grossly over priced, have crap instructions, need I continue? I don't care about the fan boys there is nothing they can say to change my mind. The only thing Moebius has going for them are some unique licenses. That said these are all things Moebius can fix, but they won't and I'm tired of hoping.

      Moebius' products. Not Moebius themselves.

    I may buy this model and combine it with the Archer Enterprise. Normally I wouldnt touch anything to do with the JJ Prise Universe but I like the Franklin. I dont think it was a Constitution class. No idea. Someone will offer an electronics kit to go with it. Its a shame they couldnt have sent this model to someone that could light it properly. I can tell you do not normally build space ships. Boats mabe?

    "It's not the Constitution class...? I dunno, I'm not that nerdy"
    30 secs later
    "The windows, the nacelles, the Bussard collectors... I believe!"
    Not fooling anyone :P

  • @willierants5880
    @willierants5880 6 років тому

    Dr, I give you two thumbs up, but the kit gets a thumbs down despite your efforts to put it in the most positive light possible. Granted Moebius has embittered me over the years so I am biased against them. Their kits have always had fit issues, even with the newer kits. I have to think they just cut corners and then over charge. I think the value for money is what most get me. I have no doubt this kit will be grossly over priced once it's released. All Moebius kits are.

    You take it off the stand to make the whooshing noises as you pretend it is flying thru space.
