I still get choked up when I hear the theme songs and see the ships, so much went into these shows and the writing. Star trek just covers all the bases.
Beautiful work Matt...the old lady looks phenomenal. I agree with Boyd the music is perfect. The "First Contact" music has always been my favorite out of all the movies, and it fits here just right.
Thanks, Boyd! I appreciate it. I'm really happy with how this kit turned out. I hope my Refit #2 is at the same or better caliber. And thanks Armando and Ken. I appreciate the kind words. Armando, you'll do the kit proud for sure when you build it! I've seen your work!
Oh that base, WOW, that really sets things off well. I'm not a model builder myself, but I love seeing expert builders show their work on here, and I dabble with electronic lighting effects at home so that side of it really interests me. The amount of diffusion on the bussard caps seems spot on to get the effect of motion yet hide the individual lights. Amazing work, so impressive.
Me too! I love the base, though if I had to do it over I'd probably make it a tad smaller. I'd also make it so I could display the ship either direction. Otherwise, it's awesome!
That display base, a complete work of art. bravo. Im just starting my journey with the 1:350 refit, in the early ordering and planning phase. I want to do a base like that.
The base is really killer, but it's a bit large. If I were to do it again, I'd go slightly smaller. It sure looks good! Good luck with your refit build!
@@mattsmodelshop I just ordered the Tenacontrols Mega board and fill lighitng kit options, hopefully thats a good choice for a newbie, I have seem some videos of people doing complete custom soldering fits, but Im too new I think. I am wondering how I will plug it into the wall.
@@mattsmodelshop I love to buy a model like this but I know be way expensive and take forever.i have my diamond selects but I love to get something like this especially the Enterprise d or e with this much love and detail. If anything , you should sell those kick-ass bases just by themselves. That one that looks like the Enterprise screen so cool especially with the lights and sounds...that could be a separate piece and would sell like hotcakes.
Okay. Just came across this but I had to say your build is awesome. Very neat idea for a base for the over-sized models. You did a fantastic job on her. She looks great.
That would actually be pretty great! I suspect with some planning and a cheap LCD, it would be possible. The hard part would be finding the right content.
Yeah, I just realized the other day that all of the suriving regular cast of the original series are in their 80's now. I used to think they were totally ageless when I was a kid. It's sad for sure.
Matt, great looking work on this and also your refit. Even though I was old enough at the time tos aired on television to understand the show the refit is still my favorite. I am curious about your strongback decals from Jerry at HDA. I used a set a couple of years ago and mine were pretty much just shades of grey. Yours seem to be more of a green tint to them. Are they really more on the green side or is that just how the camera picks them up? Mine look grey no matter what the light source and camera I use. I'm interested in finding out from you. Thanks Jim Paul
WOW love it! forgive me but I’m confused. The model kit does NOT light up? You have to make your own lighting kit? If so, again, wow great job. Sounds complicated and difficult though. Would love to have something like this, any advice.
Yeah, you have to light them up yourself. This particular kit does have a lighting kit available from Round2, but I made this one for pretty cheap. The only thing that cost lots on it was the bussard spinners which I got from Tenacontrols for around $100 (I think). The rest of it was just LED strip and some LEDs. Just watch a bunch of modeling videos, and you'll see how it all goes together.
This is beautiful I am about to start this project in the new year amazing video would you be able to get me the information on that base. I am handy and could build the main frame and support but is there a source to purchase that top and those lighting effects on it? I love it! any info would be greatly appreciated!
Excellent job. I would like to know how you managed to make Bussard matte. I bought the same model kit you assembled but the 2 parts of Bussard are originally transparent. Thank you!
It was actually installed into the base by the person who built it. Honestly, I think it's just a cheap MP3 player from China that takes SD cards. You can probably find something similar on ebay for next to nothing.
Thanks! The hull color is Tamiya J.N. Gray with a little white mixed in. It's pretty close to the filming miniature, but a bit darker. I'd probably mix a little more white in next time.
The base was made by a friend of mine who no longer has the facilities to make them. The top was made by hdamodelworx.com. It's a really great look for the model, though a bit large. If I were to do it again, I'd make it about half the size.
The model is readily available for around $110-130. As for lighting, I created my own lighting using LED tape and some LEDs. The bussard kit is from Tenacontrols. The new kit has a smooth saucer that removed the grid lines.
This made me cry.
Beautiful, brilliant, well done.
Thank you!
Thank you so much!
Wow! Stunning!!

Nice video work and the music is perfect :)

Very majestic. ...music brings a tear 2 my eyes
That base is simply over the top, a perfect addition to an incredible build!
The base is actually really awesome. I'm hoping to do one that matches for the refit as well.
My jaw just hit the floor, wow by far the best 1/350 Enterprise I have seen yet, and the base, is just mind-blowing.
