But also, 6:11 My dumbass thought this was about the colour names the different genders are allowed to have. I spend an irksome amount of time having to tell people that the sweatshirts and t-shirts we sell are almost always unisex, unless it says otherwise on the tag. The sheer number of folks who think that because a shirt is a soft fabric, or has a particular logo on it, it must be a woman's shirt...yes, dude, you can in fact buy a Wonder Woman shirt without it being a woman's shirt.

She wanted me to re-write it because blue wasn't a woman's color.... Girls used to wear blue, because it was seen as fragile and modest, and boys used to wear pink, because it's a watered-down version of red, the color of war and blood, and therefore stronger and more masculine.
But then the American fashion industry came to the market in the 1950s and decided to throw those meanings out the window by reversing the color roles in a gendered society.

Ya know what I realized was pointlessly gendered today? Bathrooms. Yeah I know we all already know this but it hit me today because usually if you tell a kid they can’t go somewhere they will do everything in their power to go there, but gendered bathrooms are so ingrained into us that as a kid when I walked just past the doorway of the boys bathroom for a dare in school, all the kids yelled like “wow I can’t believe she went into the boys bathroom!!! That’s so BAD!!!” Like it wasn’t a big deal to me. It’s just a place. I walked in and out two steps. I really feel for the poor, most likely underpaid retail worker who had to deal with the "I'm not a unisex" guy.
I used to work at a store where we had done away with gendering the bathrooms years ago. It's known to be a pretty socially progressive store, but it really wasn't even any kind of a statement. It just made sense because the room marked "women" always had a longer line. They weren't stalls -- just fully closed, lockable rooms with a toilet and a sink inside. They were always cleaned and fully sanitized every evening, and usually throughout the day (because, as anyone who has ever had to clean a public bathroom can attest... people are animals).
But sure enough as I was waiting for the restroom after my shift one day, some woman joined me and promptly started complaining that neither was the "women"s room. I tried to get out of the conversation by saying it had been like this a long time and we never had any issues. But she persisted on about how she'd now have to use the bathroom after a man, and gestured wildly at my male coworker leaving one of the bathrooms as if his maleness proved some kind of point. I kept trying to brush her off until she finally said "Well, I don't think I can keep shopping here if it's going to be like this." To which I just said "Okay", and went on to use the bathroom like a normal person.
This was at the height of media attention on transgender bathroom issues so to this day I think she was just looking for an excuse to be a TERF, and we denied her that with our gender neutral bathrooms. That thought always makes me happy.

The men's stuff smelled very strongly masculine and was packaged in blue or black, and the women's was very strongly feminine and packaged in purple or white. Where's the generic "human that doesn't want to stink"?

As a transguy that needed to wear women jeans for a long time and now finally men's jeans, there actually are differences thou. Especially the hip, butt (and obviously crotch area) is cut very differently, since men's jeans aren't designed for wide hips. Finding jeans that fit my hips but didn't have too long legs or made my butt look weird was actually very difficult.

I have actually seen that joke redone as artist vs layman, and I preferred that version. That said, a lot of the names for colours on the detailed side are definitely fashion names, if artists were getting overly specific they'd probably use pigment names like 'vermilion' or 'red violet lake' where that has 'maraschino' and 'lavender'. My personal tendency is to describe those colours as "warm red" and "light pinkish purple".

So EVERYONE is wearing shoes who's inside construction is based on men/boys feet, no matter their sex. Now who should be upset about "unisex" shoes?

6:40 this is a thing as old as humanity itself, I feel like. I have heard this since forever, usually from guys, and interestingly enough, it turned out that they often didn't see the difference between, say, lavender and bubblegum or banana and lemon - it was just the same colour to them. That's probably just coincidence but I have always found it interesting. I myself and my women friends can see the difference but usually don't know the name of the specific shade.
But this specific example has this weird vibe that I can't explain that turns me off.
Okay, can I talk about how annoyed I am that someone somewhere decided that cocktails (and often wine) are for girly girls and s-words only and MANLY MEN drink either shots or beer? Because, darling, my girly girl cocktail has like three shots of different liquors in it _and_ looks good _and_ tastes good. Have fun with your 50ml of pure alcohol you knock down in half a second or foul-smelling gross-tasting alcoholic water (no offense to people who like beer, only to those who think it says something about their masculinity).
I don't know if this is regional but I have sometimes heard wine being for 'ladies' (in a disparaging way, English doesn't have a direct translation) and I am like... you know that average wine is approximately two times stronger than beer, right? Or, if men drink wine, they genderise it by _sweetness_ (read: residue fructose that was not converted to alcohol during fermentation) of all things.
Stupid people: women only drink sweet wine
My bf: snorts into his glass of port wine
