This info saved my gig last night! Routing was messed up and not coming through separate outputs. Showed this to the sound engineer 5mins before doors opened and it did the trick 👍🏻 thanks for the helpful video!
I just bought the 18i20 to replace my Reason Balance interface. The Focusrite 18i20 so far has been incredible.I noticed an immediate improvement in the tightness of my recordings. I don't use the software - yet. This interface is quiet and offers great playback and low latency recording. I like that fact that I don't have to assign a channel just to perform a temporary track. The 18i20 allows me to mix my input directly with the recorded output. In the past, I'd have to create a track in my DAW to monitor my instrument. I'm very pleased with my purchase so far.
You know... plugins give built in scenarios to the user so they can see an example of how to add EQ to an acoustic guitar, or how to gate a snare drum, etc... This should have come with built in scenarios like how to route a latency free signal back to your headphones while you listen to the rest of the mix at an appropriate volume. We shouldn't have to tinker for hours, days or even weeks to try and figure out what the engineers at Focusrite had in their heads when they came up with this. Focusrite needs to put some scenario presets out there on their site, so we can download them and get a glimpse of how things route. This would prevent a ton of user issues. If I knew that I'd have to deal with Mix Control when I bought this... I may have looked elsewhere. My old Presonus was easy. There's no reason this shouldn't be as well.
I've owned this interface for almost a year now, and I still have issues with Mix Control. There is really no clear way to understand this in my opinion. I'm not an idiot, but I can't seem to understand how I can listen the song coming through the headphones and adjust the level of my voice so I can hear myself sing over the recording. This was very easy on my Presonus interface, but that didn't have this (what I would call) un-user friendly control interface. This really needs to be reworked or directions for "idiots" need to be created by Focusrite. Sweetwater is awesome, but you're technically not supposed to give lessons in routing via your help desk. So... I'm kinda stuck. Please help if you can.
This video, just like the baffling software it fails to make clear, assumes that the person who knows nothing about Mix Control already knows everything about Mix Control. "You don't know how to speak Spanish? No problem-I'll just explain it to you in Spanish!"
I have this piece of software and has to be one of the most complicated and unintuitive programs ever created. I get through the basisc for sheer persistance and experience. People new to audio interfaces: avoid this.
I have good mic signal in the mixing control and the hardware but still no sound come out the speakers 🔊 when I talk in the mic,I tried many things nothing work 🤦🏾♂️
I’ve owned this software and Focusrite products for about a decade now... I don’t know why, it’s probably the most useless control interface I’ve worked with. Routing the outputs should be as simple as “Routing->Output channel->output #” but alas it’s not.
I've been looking for hours, and not a single video has been helpful to me. I currently have a mic and headphones plugged into my Scarlett 6i6, yet am unable to hear anything from the mic. I just want to know how to hear my mic. That's it.
Do you have any tutorials on how to run a click track from the daw to the pro 40 that only plays to one or two designated outputs and can't be heard through the house
90 % of buyers are foggy about just routing in and outs to their DAW. Besides that cant focusrite Just focus of putting up a DEMO with Actual case scenario for individual presets ? rather than using technical words ....Most of the people who buy this product are designed musicians...not engineers !
Many people are noobs. I can wire and route the shit out of my outboard gear using my old Presonus interface. This thing however... is a total PITA. There's no clear way to understand the routing in my opinion. If you tinker... you can get some things to work, but it's not fool proof and it should be. Plugins give you a list of scenarios, so you can see an example of how to EQ a guitar or add a de-esser to a female vocal. This thing needs to have scenarios built in, so a user can see an example of (for example) recording a zero latency vocal at a good volume while listening to the mix feedback.
I just want to plug guitar into #4 then route output 4 to amp to record live rehearsal but capture direct signal with fx and mic the cab. So I'll have 2 tracks recorded, one direct one amped. whilst using a plug-in that comes out of amp.
I Just want to create a send to lets say output 3-4 and for it to WORK not here nothing. Instead, my 3 and 4 on the back of my interface are receiving feed from 1-2.. like??? what?!?!?!?!?!
Man you have been a great help with this video. Question: I have a Saffire Pro 26 and I understand how to get it working with everything EXCEPT Sound Forge 10. I can't figure out how to get a signal to come through like it did with the Mbox Pro. Can you help me? Thanks in advance!!!
So would using Ultra Low Latency Tracking effectively be the same as direct monitoring? Just sending the whole mix straight to the headphone outputs before sending the signal to the DAW?
When you assign an input directly to an output, does it still go through AD/DA conversion?? I want to be able to use the mic pres to send to my eqs and compressors, but I don't want an additional stage of conversion. The video says it goes directly from the input to the output, so I'm hoping their is no conversion taking place. Thanks!!
I can't select monitor output 1 or 2 at all in my saffire mix pro... it just stopped allowing me to use the hardware knob and is now forcing me to use the software knob, I've no idea how to change this!
I tried many thing to get my saffire pro 40 to act the same as my old digi 002 . . . but I doesn't work that way. Right now I've hooked the thing up to Reason. The audio signal is coming in, but when I press mute, the audio signal is still coming out of my speakers - and somehow it makes me crazy, mad, cry, like a helpless little baby hehehe! I mean, what am I doing wrong here? [EDIT I think I am starting to understand the routing process now. Till so far it looks promising!)
I'd like to use my Saffire pro40 with a Kyma system as DAW. It has an own hardware called Pacarana whitch communicates with FFSaffire. The Mix Control not allowed to be on the computer. I have no idea how can i switch between mix and low latency mode.. I have no analog mixer, I'd like to use 7.1 monitoring and listen the microphones at recording. Do you have any idea? Thank you
hey guys, quick question, im having trouble routing traktor through this soundcard.. do i need to open mix control to sort the outputs for traktor to work on my xone92?
Hi I have 18i8 1gen There’s only 2 outputs Do you have any idea how can I send click from my daw as a audio channel for the band throw trough the headphones output?
I can't even load my Saffire Mix Control software because it says that i have no hardware connected. But i do. I have 2KRKs linked up through the Focusrite soundcard. And the focusrite soundcard turns on as soon (lights up) as soon as i plug in the cable into my laptop. Any ideas how to fix this/get my saffire mix control up and running? Thanks
I have the Saffire Pro 40 and i dont know if its me or if its thensystem but when i connect my monitors to the 2 white highlighted Speaker Outputs when i play something to listen it sound like theres an eco or some type of delay barely visible but u can notice its there? any type of help would help ALOTTT.......
I HAVE A ECHOE SOUND COMING FROM MY SAFFIRE PRO 40 I HAVE IT SETUP TO 2 speakers on the saffire mixer and have al the other out puts REDDED outcan anyone please help
Not sure if you have this problem but i have the 18i20 and i have my headphones plug in to the first headphone jack on the front panel and i hear sound great on both left and right speakers on my headphones but when i connect my headphones to the second headphone jack on the front panel i only hear sound on my right speaker on my headphones. if anyone knows how i can fix this problem please let me knw. i just hope i dont have a headphone jack that is defective. thanks again
Did not find this helpful. If you are making a tutorial, assume people don't know what they are doing. Examples would have helped rather than rattling through technical terms.
This thing sucks like hell! No sound at all, I had a Motu before, OMG how I miss that thing! Never a Focusrite ever again for me, this is such a big disappointment!

Thank you for the tutorial 👍👍👍
Hands up if you hit clear and then realized you couldn't hear the video because you were already listening through DAW tracking
