      That's what's dope about Aesop Rock. His body of work isn't defined by just his catalogue. There isn't really even a definition for his songs. I guess "wordy" would be adequate

    Aesop is a lyrical mastermind i don't think i've
    heard anybody this good in awhile the only group i can
    say can compete lyrically would be the cunninlynguists
    every song i hear i'm like damn amazing metaphors and lyrics that
    make you think ten of ten for sure

      check out Deca, no one will get too close to Aesop no one has the energy but Deca might be the closest poet wise. Brad Hamers maybe but he's quite pretentious.

    Elitism is so disgusting. Just because Aesop Rock's songs have more depth than some other music doesn't make it inherently better, and it certainly doesn't mean you are any more intelligent for listening to it. Some people get a lot out of music emotionally, it stimulates them intellectually and challenges their perspectives. Other people don't get that much out of it. Just like you don't fully appreciate other forms of art, they don't appreciate music the way you do. Get over yourselves.

    • @zoned7609

      Spoken word? This is straight up Hip Hop.

    • @mattsch21
      @mattsch21 8 років тому +5

      So you agree with op then? Spoken word is reading your poems out in a simple cadence. Maybe over a sparse beat. Aesop is clearly rapping over straight up boom bap. That's textbook definition hip hop. Both of your dudes' attitudes are insulting to Hip Hop and borderline racist and I guarantee Aesop rock would disagree with you . Bob Dylan just won the Nobel prize in literature for his songwriting. He didn't need to be called a poet. Poetry is not an elevated art form over Hip Hop or anything else, they are different. Aesop grew up in NYC area engulfed in the oldest and most complex traditions of Hip Hop. You don't get to take that away.

    You must not pay very close attention to hip-hop. I know it's a pretty trendy genre, or can be at least, but at least pay attention to the shit. Tyler, Earl and Hodgy from Odd Future. Hopsin is basically an Eminem clone, which are pretty prevalent and generally more talented than most other "legend" clones. His wordplay and rhyming are widely regarded as some of the best, at least in his heyday - including by the likes of Kool G Rap. Not even a big Em fan, but saying he wasn't a game changer...

    • @GetMoreOdder
      @GetMoreOdder Рік тому

      You understand Em bit his original style and flow from Aesop? Aes did what Em did lightyears ahead of him, Em's producers handed him the Aes tape and hence Eminem was born, copycat halfassed attempts at lyrical mastery he could never achieve, hence why Aes is still going strong and Em is hanging by a thread. Aesop was the OG, not before Kool G but def before Em.

    • @ZoeMyJesus
      @ZoeMyJesus Рік тому

      @@GetMoreOdder Replying to a comment that's nearly a decade old is a wild sentiment, almost as wild as making me defend Eminem twice on a song from an artist I actually consistently listen to (and have for almost 20 years). I wasn't there, so I don't know, but if you're right now saying that Eminem took his style from Aesop Rock that is almost exactly the thing I was talking about when I said pay attention to the history of hip-hop a decade ago. Aesop's first record, which he produced and took care of himself while he was a waiter - which did not initially spread very far - was released 3 years *after* Eminem's first album (Infinite in 1996, Appleseed in 1999). Em has been a lot of things in his career, but I would say at the very least (and especially early on) he has been pretty original with very clear influences, none of which involved Aesop Rock. I don't think there was any crossover at all, like ships in the night, outside of the very minor Cage beef that occurred. If you're talking about Aesop from Living Legends, I guess that's a possibility, but I highly doubt it as most of Em's stuff seems to have drawn most from people like Run DMC, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, Kool G, Biggie, Tupac and various other golden era MCs.
